MOHALI, July 14

The patients with complex heart conditions, who require bypass cardiac surgery, can now get faster relief with ‘Fast-track bypass cardiac surgery’ which allows patients to be in their normal routine in just five days after the surgery.

With the support of advanced technology, skill set, high precision drugs and intensive monitoring of patients, the Sohana Hospital Mohali is now successfully performing the fast-track cardiac surgeries, at a low cost, which helps the patients to get discharged from the hospital within a span of five days.

A 73-year-old patient, Kesar Kaur, was having multiple health problems including anaemia, chronic kidney disease and diabetes from the past 15 years. She was admitted at the hospital after complaining of chest pain when the doctors conducted her angiography medical test on July 6. However, the test reports revealed that the patient was suffering from triple vessel disease, which was subjected to cardiac bypass surgery.

Soon after the test reports, the cardiac surgery team of the hospital, led by Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan started the surgery procedure. “The fast-track bypass cardiac surgery was performed on July 8 and the patient was discharged on July 12. This advanced surgery procedure has a 99.99% success rate.”

Dr Chauhan added that the patient is shifted to ICU, immediately after the surgery, where the intensive care team takes care of the patient.

While explaining further about the surgery, Dr Ajay Attri, head Cardiac anaesthesia, said that: “Next day after the surgery, the patient is admitted to the room where he is allowed to take foods prescribed by the doctors. On the second day, the patient is asked to walk around and climb the stairs. On the following day, a team of doctors observe the recovery of the patient and check how he is responding to the treatment. On the fourth day, the patient is asked to take a bath and doctors check their wounds.”

While expressing satisfaction over the fast-track surgery at the hospital, Harcharan Singh, husband of Kesar Kaur, said: “Initially, I was scared when doctors said a surgery needs to be performed. But, my wife recovered in just five days and is healthy now. The hospital is providing the best treatment and patient care, at a low surgery cost.”
