Governor flags off cycle rally to commemorate 75th Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav
7.5 kilometer rally from Sukhna lake to Shanti Kunj sector 16 organised by Chandigarh Smart City Ltd.
Chandigarh, October 3:- Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chanigarh flagged off a cycle rally organized by Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. as part of the 75th Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations of 75 years of Independence at Sukhna Lake here today.
Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, IAS, Finance Seretary, Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Sh. Parveer Ranjan, IPS, DGP, Chandigarh, Sh. Yashpal Garg, IAS, CEO, CHB, Sh. Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, MCC, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, other councilors and senior officers of MCC were also present during the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion the Governor said that cycling is the best way to get in shape, enjoy the outdoors, and have fun while doing it. He said that by riding cycle for thirty minutes every day, the person would build lean muscle, boost metabolism and dramatically decrease chances of acquiring heart disease.
The Governor also honoured the different teams of officers and Nodal officers for rendering their matchless services during the week long celebrations of 75th Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.
The Chandigarh residents today took a great leap forward for celebrating 75 years of Independence and participated with their full heart in the cycle rally organised in the city from Sukhna Lake to Shanti Kunj.
The rally started off at Sukhna Lake and the total route was 7.5 kms. The highlight of the event was participation of almost 50% of women bicyclist and enthusiastic participation by ‘Junior Bicycling Champions’ i.e. kids who took part in the rally with full valour. The city officials promised to scale up such events to make more people to participate in celebrating 75 years of Freedom.
Another objective fulfilled in the event was to make the participants aware about the benefits of bicycling and also to empower citizens from all walks of life to adopt bicycling in their daily routine and leave their worry of parking their vehicles aside.
The rally ended at Shanti Kunj, Sector-16 where the Junior Bicycle Champions were felicitated along with Women participants by the Mayor and the Commissioner. Certificates were given for showing their enthusiasm and promoting bicycling in their own way.
