FDP on Artificial Intelligence by Panjab University, Chandigarh
The Centre For Academic Leadership and Educational Management (CALEM) Department Of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh and the Department of Computer Science and Applications are jointly organizing a seven-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – Basics and Applications’ from 22 -28, December, 2020.
The program started with the introduction to the programme by Dr. Anuj Sharma, Coordinator of the programme. He talked about the importance of Artificial Intelligence in Human Life. He stressed that AI needs attention from various disciplines to solve real life problems and fulfill India’s AI initiative. There were125 registered entries so far from 16 states and from various disciplines like pharmaceutical sciences, law, mathematics, computer science, social science, medical, commerce etc.
The Chief Guest for the inaugural session, Prof. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, discussed that use of machine learning and Artificial Intelligence has increased tremendously in almost every field from past few years and it is benefitting the humans. He also stressed on the need to control the ability of artificial intelligence so that it should only be used for constructive purposes to serve the society.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor ,Panjab University talked about the importance of AI for society. He also discussed that artificial intelligence has lots of opportunities in the coming time. He shared that Panjab University has been actively conducting extension activities, webinars, faculty development programmes etc. and in future also such programmes should be organized to give the future directions to the researchers.
Earlier, Prof. Kirandeep Singh, Chairperson, Dept. of Education welcomed all the dignitaries and the participants. She talked about the increasing applications of AI in all the fields and stressed that this FDP will help the participants to gain knowledge about various artificial intelligence concepts and techniques.
Dr. Jatinder Grover, CALEM Co-ordinator, Dept. of Education, Panjab University shared that CALEM organized 4 FDPs and trained about 1500 teachers for online education during the lockdown period. He discussed that such FDPs on AI will help teachers to practice these techniques in classroom and research as well.
Dr. Rohini Sharma, Chairperson and Co-ordinator of the programme highlighted that DCSA has taken initiatives to contribute to impart the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence to all . She stressed that this faculty development programme will help the participants to learn multidisciplinary aspects of artificial intelligence and apply these concepts in their respective fields
The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Anu Gupta, Dept. of Computer Science and Applications.
