FDP – Exploring Science and Technology Interconnections
One week online Faculty Development Program on Exploring Science and Technology Interconnections was inaugurated today by Dean Student Welfare, Panjab University, Prof. S.K. Tomar. The FDP is being jointly organized by the Department of Applied Sciences, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University Chandigarh and Department of Chemistry, Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu and is sponsored by Technical Education Quality Improvement programme of Government of India (TEQIP-III) .
The objective of the FDP is to provide a common platform for discussion between scientists and engineers to draw a roadmap for strengthening the teaching and research of Applied Science in Engineering Institutes. 85 faculty members have registered for this faculty programme. Eminent speakers from different engineering, research institutes and university departments will deliver talks on the Significance of Applied Sciences, methodologies to make teaching of applied sciences interesting and useful, research and consultancy expectations from applied scientists etc..Two expert talks were delivered on the inaugural day. Prof. Sandeep Sahijpal, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered a talk about Solar system, its exploration and what humans can gain from it. He highlighted developments in remote sensing technology and progress of India in Space exploration. Prof. Rama Sastry, Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Mohali delivered talk on “ The relevance of catalysis in organic synthesis”. He explained the importance of organic synthesis and how the catalysis can impact the synthesis.
