Panchkula, February 22: Deputy Commissioner -cum-District Election Officer, Sh Sushil Sarwan presided over a meeting of all the Sector Officers and Nodal Officers regarding the preparations for Lok Sabha General Elections-2024 and issued directions for the conduct of elections in a fair, peaceful and transparent manner.

          In the meeting which was held at Mini Secretariat, Sector-1 here, the Sector Officers and Nodal Officers were given live demos of VVPAT, Controlling Unit (CU) and Ballot Unit (BU) besides sensitizing them about the functioning of EVM. Sh Sarwan said that a total of 418 polling stations have been established in two assembly constituencies – Kalka-01 and Panchkula-02 of the district, which include 215 polling stations in Kalka Assembly constituency and 203 in Panchkula Assembly constituency. He said that the tagline for Lok Sabha General Election-2024 is “Chunav Ka Parv, Desh Ka Garv” adding that the tag line should be widely publicized so as to ensure the maximum participation of voters in the elections.

      He directed all the Sector Officers to personally visit the polling stations in areas allotted to them and take stock of minimum basic facilities for the voters and asked them to inform him immediately, in case any shortcomings are found. He said that for the convenience of Divyang voters, arrangement of one wheelchair will be made at each polling centre so as to enable them to cast their vote without any inconvenience. Besides, volunteers will also assist the divyang voters at the polling stations in casting their votes. He also directed the Sector Officers to identify vulnerable and critical polling stations in their respective areas so that additional police personnel can be deployed.

During the meeting, City Magistrate  Mannat Rana  apprised all the Sector Officers about their work and responsibilities pre-poll, on the poll eve and on the poll day. She highlighted the role of sector officers in the election management, law and order, model code of conduct, monitoring of election expenditure, election process, functioning of EVM-VVPAT, SVEEP and other important aspects of elections.
