Chandigarh Municipal Corporation wins the award of Best Urban Local Body in National Water Awards 2022
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar confers awards to city Mayor and Commissioner at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi*
Chandigarh, June 17:- The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has added another feather to its cap by being judged the Best Urban Local Body in the prestigious 4th National Water Awards, organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
On behalf of MCC, the award having a citation, trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lacs was received by Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor Chandigarh and Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, from Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice President of India. The ceremony was organized by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
41 winners including covering 11 categories were felicitated. Chandigarh bagged this award beating Indore Municipal Corporation (MP) which came second and Surat Municipal Corporation and Malkapur Municipal Council which jointly secured 3rd rank under the same category.
While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that Chandigarh, the well- planned and beautiful city, has achieved yet another remarkable milestone by winning the Fourth National Water Awards-2022. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the city’s commitment towards efficient water management and conservation practices.
He said that as part of the ongoing Nationwide drive to realize the governments vision of “Jal Smridh Bharat” or “Water Prosperous India”, the National Water Awards focus on encouraging the good work and efforts made by various individuals and organizations under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi ji, the Ministry of Jal Shakti started in comprehensive campaign about water management and water conservation on national level Accordingly, the first National Water Award was launched in 2018.
The Mayor said that the fourth National Water Awards was launched on 30th July 2022 and 868 applications were received. The applications were scrutinized and evaluated. The ground verification was carried out by Central Water Commission and Central Ground Water Board after which 41 winners in 11 categories were selected for Awards.
