*“MC Chandigarh conducts intensive citywide drive to eliminate water stagnation”*
*Chandigarh, September 1:-* In a proactive move to safeguard public health and ensure citywide sanitation, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out an extensive inspection drive across various sectors to assess and address issues of water stagnation following recent rainfall.
MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar inspected some parts of city including water logging at GPO complex, sector 17. He was accompanied by chief engineer and other concerned officers of MCC.
A major concern was identified at the GPO Building complex, Sector 17. The site has been plagued by persistent water accumulation, resulting in foul odor, mosquito breeding, and potential damage to essential infrastructure.
Taking immediate cognizance, the Commissioner, MCC Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has issued strict directions to the concerned departments to:
Investigate the reasons for the unresolved complaints.
Fix accountability on officials found negligent.
Undertake urgent dewatering and sanitation measures.
Implement long-term preventive strategies to avoid recurrence.
The Commissioner further emphasized the importance of protecting essential service premises and maintaining hygienic conditions across the city.
He further instructed all Municipal wings to carry out similar inspections in their respective jurisdictions and submit reports within 24 hours.
Following the Commissioner’s directive, MCC field teams were mobilized to conduct thorough inspections citywide, ensuring rapid response and mitigation of identified risks.
The Commissioner urged citizens to report water stagnation concerns through official grievance channels for swift redressal.
