*MC Chandigarh conducts anti-polythene raid in sector 26 Grain Market; 250 kg Single-Use Plastic seized*
In a determined effort to enforce ban on single-use plastic (SUP), the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh conducted a special anti-polythene raid today at the Grain Market, Sector 26. During the operation, approximately 250 kg of single-use plastic carry bags were seized, and 12 challans were issued to violators for non-compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
The raid was conducted under the direct supervision of MCC officials including Mohinder Pathak (Health Supervisor), Darshan Singh (Chief Sanitary Inspector), and Sanitary Inspectors Parveen Kumar, Manjit Kumar, and Davinder Rohilla. The confiscated plastic material has been safely transported to the Dry Waste Processing Plant for appropriate disposal and further processing.
MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, has issued a strict warning to all violators, emphasizing that repeated violations of the SUP ban and waste management rules will attract heavier penalties and legal action.
He further appealed to shopkeepers, vendors, and citizens to fully comply with Solid Waste Management Rules and contribute to maintaining a clean and environmentally sustainable city. The use of eco-friendly alternatives and responsible waste disposal are critical to the success of this mission.
