‘Each One Plant One’ initiative taken forward at UIAMS,PU and NSS volunteers

The students, staff and faculty of University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) under the Directorship of Prof.Upasna Joshi Sethi and NSS volunteers of Panjab University, Chandigarh headed by Programme Coordinator, Prof.Navdeep Sharma and mentored by Programme Officer, Dr.Anupreet Kaur Mavi and Dr.Manjushri Sharma organized a tree plantation drive, here today.

 The 100 flowering shrubs used for beautification of the campus were donated by Mr. Rahul Mahajan, a philanthrophist and an environment lover. The drive was conducted in collaboration with Horticulture Department of Panjab University under the leadership of Mr.Anil Thakur and his team.

Sawan celebrations at GH-3, PU

Chandigarh July 30, 2019

 The advent of Sawan was observed by the residents and staff of Sarojini Hall, Girls Hostel no. 3, Panjab University, Chandigarh at its colorful best. The celebration began in the morning with a pious hawan yagya performed in the premises of hostel followed by prashad distribution among the residents.

            In the evening, the occasion was charmed with many fun and frolic activities. Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare (DSW), Prof. Neena Caplash, DSW(W) were the Chief Guests.

            A plantation and pot adoption fete was held to encourage residents to plant more trees and take care of these plantations thereafter. Department of Horticulture, Panjab University, donated Hibiscus plants and Department of Environment, Paryavaran Bhavan, Sec-19, donated shrubs like Bougainvillea and other pot plants to the Hostel.

The residents were made aware of the plantation concepts alien to them before, like manure and soil preparation and how to take care of plants in a proper way. Dean Student Welfare also adopted plants along with residents and wardens of other hostels. The hostel family also took a step forward to reduce the traffic congestion in University by Bicycle stand inauguration in GH3 hostel. These bicycles were donated to the hostel under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of University. In addition to these, Kheer- Malpua and barbecued Corncobs added more flavors to the jovial season and were served. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr. Ravneet Kaur, Warden, Girls Hostel-3.

Plantation Drive at PU

Chandigarh July 30, 2019

A plantation drive was held in the Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University, Chandigarh here today.  Around 30 plants were planted on this occasion by the students of M.A 1st, 3rd Semester and Research Scholars in the presence of teaching and non-teaching staff in the ground of Arts Block -I.  The staff of Horticulture Department of Panjab University were also present at the time of plantation to guide and help the students. Each individual plant was adopted by the students of the department.

पंचकूला 30 जुलाई-

कृषि एवं किसान कल्याण विभाग द्वारा जिला के किसानों को आधुनिक कृषि उपकरण अनुदान पर उपलब्ध करवाये जा रहें है। यह उपकरण लेने के इच्छुक किसान 14 अगस्त तक डब्लयूडब्लयूडब्लयू डाॅट एग्रीहरियाणा डाॅट ओआरजी पर आवेदन कर सकते है।

यह जानकारी देते हुये सहायक कृषि अभियन्ता राजीव गोयल ने बताया कि जिला के चारों विकास खण्डों के लिये इन उपकरणों की संख्या निर्धारित की गई है। उन्होंने बताया कि विभाग द्वारा कस्टम हायरिंग सेन्टर स्थापित करने के साथ साथ हैप्पी सीडर, शरब मास्टर, कटर कम सपरैडर, जीरो सीड ड्रिल, रोका रेटर, इत्यादि उपकरण अनुदान पर दिये जा रहें हैं।

इसके लिये किसान को पासपोर्ट अकार की फोटो, आधार कार्ड, पेन कार्ड व व्यक्तिगत पहचान का दस्तावेज, भूमि रिकोर्ड का विवरण भी आॅनलाईन कर दिया गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि कस्टम हायरिंग सेन्टर स्थापित करने के इच्छुक किसानों को आफलाईन आवेदन करना होगा और इसके लिये फार्म कृषि कार्यालय से प्राप्त किये जा सकते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इस योजना के बारे में किसान किसी भी कार्य दिवस में सैक्टर 21  पंचकूला स्थित सहायक कृषि अभियन्ता के कार्यालय में सम्र्पक कर सकते है या दूरभाष नम्बर 0172-5270801 पर भी जानकारी ली जा सकती है।

गुरू नानक देव जी के 550वे प्रकाश उत्सव के उपलक्ष्य में 4 अगस्त को सिरसा में आयोजित होने वाले राज्य स्तरीय समारोह के प्रबंधों के लिये आज एस.डी.एम ममता शर्मा ने अपने कार्यालय में जन प्रतिनिधियों और धार्मिक संगठनों के प्रतिनिधियों से चर्चा की।

पंचकूला 30 जुलाई-

श्री गुरू नानक देव जी के 550वे प्रकाश उत्सव के उपलक्ष्य में 4 अगस्त को सिरसा में आयोजित होने वाले राज्य स्तरीय समारोह के प्रबंधों के लिये आज एस.डी.एम ममता शर्मा ने अपने कार्यालय में जन प्रतिनिधियों और धार्मिक संगठनों के प्रतिनिधियों से चर्चा की। एस.डी.एम ने कहा कि सिरसा जाने के इच्छुक पंचकूला जिला के नागरिकों के लिये परिवहन सुविधा की व्यवस्था की जा रही है।

उन्होंने कहा कि श्री गुरू नानक देव जी को सभी धर्मों और वर्गो के लोग सम्मान सहित याद करते है और इस राज्य स्तरीय समारोह में भी सभी धर्मों के लोग बडी संख्या में सिरसा पंहुयेगे। उन्होंने बताया कि जिला के चारों खण्ड मुख्यालयों पर एक-एक बस उपलब्ध करवाई जायेगी।

इसके अलावा ग्रामीण व शहरी क्षेत्र में गुरूद्वारा प्रबंधक कमैटियों से भी सम्र्पक किया जा रहा है ताकि अधिक से अधिक लोग इस समारोह का हिस्सा बन सकें। इसके अलावा उन्होंने ने जिला से जाने वाले लोगों से सम्बधिंत अन्य सुविधओं पर भी चर्चा की। इस बैठक में जिला विकास एवं पंचायत अधिकारी कवर दमन सिंह, बी.डी.पी.ओ डाॅ दलजीत सिंह, जसमेर सिंह बंजारा, मलविन्द्र सिंह बेदी, गुरूद्वारा नाडा साहिब के हैडग्रंथी ज्ञानी जगजीत सिंह व अन्य गुरूद्वारो से आये प्रतिनिधि व सरपंच उपस्थित रहें।

राष्ट्रीय चित्रकला प्रतियोगिता के दूसरे चरण में 300 बच्चों ने भाग लिया

सिरसा, 30 जुलाई।

31 को विशेष बच्चों की करवाई जाएगी चित्रकला प्रतियोगिता 


            जिला बाल कल्याण परिषद् द्वारा राष्ट्रीय चित्रकला प्रतियोगिता के द्वितीय चरण में 10 से 16 वर्ष आयुवर्ग तक के बच्चों की प्रतियोगिता करवाई गई। प्रतियोगिता का उद्घाटन भाजपा युवा नेता श्री मुनीष सिंगला ने किया। आज विभिन्न स्कूलों के 300  बच्चों ने भाग लिया। 


              इस अवसर पर श्री मनीष सिंगला ने बच्चों को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि बच्चे ही देश का भविष्य हैं और हमें इस भविष्य को सुरक्षित रखना है, क्योंकि देश का भविष्य इन्ही हाथों में सुरक्षित है। उन्होंने कहा कि बच्चों को इस प्रकार की प्रतियोगिताओं में बढ-चढ कर भाग लेना चाहिए। इस प्रकार की प्रतियोगिताओं से बच्चों को मानसिक एवं शारीरिक विकास होता है।


              जिला बाल कल्याण अधिकारी श्रीमती पुनम नागपाल ने बताया कि इस प्रतियोगिता में विभिन्न स्कूलों से 300 बच्चों ने भाग लिया। आज की प्रतियोगिता स्वच्छ भारत विषय पर आयोजित करवाई गई। उन्होंने बताया कि 31 जुलाई को तीसरे चरण की प्रतियोगिता में रैड समूह में  5-10  वर्ष तक बच्चे तथा येला समूह में 11-18 वर्ष तक के बच्चे भाग लेंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि ये दोनों समूह विशेष बच्चों के लिए बनाए गये हैं। इस अवसर पर युवा भाजपा नेता विनोद स्वामी, हरपिंद्र शर्मा, उदेश गुप्ता, अशोक शर्मा, नवदीश गर्ग, लक्की डाबर सहित विभिन्न स्कूलों से आये हुये अध्यापक व बच्चे उपस्थित थे।

PU Syndicate Meeting

Chandigarh July 30, 2019 

PU Syndicate in its meeting today took up 25 Agenda Items out of the listed 30 items. Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh at the outset informed the house about his ill health and said that because of academic importance of various issues, he is taking up the meeting. In view of this, the Registrar was requested to read out the VC’s statement.


  The Syndicate approved the agreement between Panjab University and the private hospitals to provide cashless treatment facilities to PU employees. The six city hospitals include Indus Hospital, Mohali, Grecian Hospital, Mohali, JPI Hospital, Mohali, Shalby Hospital, Mohali, Max Hospital, Mohali, Ivy Hospital Mohali and one hospital in Ludhiana namely Bassi Nursing Home.

The Syndicate approved discontinuation of Master of Arts i.e. MA (Part-I History) in phased manner from the Session 2019-20 at Guru Teg Bahadur National College, Dakha, District Ludhiana. 


        The Syndicate approved of introduction of Certificate Course in Vedic Studies in the Department of Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies w.e.f. the Academic Session 2019-20.


        The Syndicate approved the appointment of the Registrar, Prof. Karamjeet Singh as Returning Officer for the Election of Ordinary Fellows-2020. 


 Since VC was unwell, he adjourned the Syndicate Meeting sine die after taking up 25 items. The balance items shall be taken up in the next meeting

Vice-Chancellor Statement

1.      With a deep sense of sorrow, I may inform the honourable members of the Syndicate about the sad demise of:
i)      S. Balwant Singh Grewal, father of Prof.  Ramanjit K. Johal, Dept. of Public Administration on 25th July, 2019
ii)     Smt. Kaushalya Paresh, mother of Dr. Latika Sharma, Dept. of Education on 25th July, 2019  (To pay homage to the departed souls, two minutes silence, all standing, may be observed).

2.      I am pleased to inform the honourable members of the Syndicate that:
(i)     Prof. Sudhir Kumar, Department of Evening Studies-Multidisciplinary Research Centre, P.U., has been nominated as a member of the School of Literature/Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi 
Vishwa Vidyalaya, Wardha.
(ii)    The UIPS has brought laurels to the University as follows:
(a)     Ms. Ranjot Kaur, Research Scholar, under the guidance of Prof. Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, UIPS, has prepared anti-bacterial and anti-fungal medicine for the treatment of lung infection.
(b)     Prof. B.S. Bhoop, UIPS, was specially included in a Committee formed under the Drug Controller General of India to make changes in the old Drug and Cosmetics Act.
(c)     Prof. Indu Pal Kaur, UIPS, has secured Rs. 5.5 crore funding from government agencies and Rs. 77 lakh from industrial consultancies.

(iii)   Prof. Seema Kapoor, UICET has been selected for Distinguished Faculty in Engineering Award in 5th Faculty Awards-VIFA 2019.
(iv)    The students of University have brought laurels for the University as follows:
(a)     Nina Chandel, student of MCA, Panjab University won the BRONZE MEDAL in 10 Mtr. Air Rifle Women Team Event at 30th SUMMER UNIVERSIADE – 2019, held at Napoli, Italy from 3rd to 14th July 2019.
(b)     Five students namely Priyanka Kairon, Aayush Gupta, Navjot Kaur Sandhu, Varinder Singh Khosa and Karan Singh Sandhu of the IAS Coaching Centre, P.U., have been selected as PCS Executive Officers. 
(c)     10 students of UILS have been selected as Metropolitan Magistrates in the Delhi Judicial Services Exam 2019. 
(d)     Five research scholars from the Department of English & Cultural Studies have been selected by the HPSC-AP recruitment 2019.
(e)     A record number of students from different departments have cleared UGC NET/JRF exam this year. 
It is indeed a matter of pride for the University to see their students shining.

(v)     Dr. Rohit Sharma, Chairperson, Department of Microbial Biotechnology, P.U., was successfully granted a patent entitled ‘Lipase/esterase-catalyzed synthesis of alkyl esters by transesterification (2019)’ for a term of 20 years in accordance with the provisions of the Patent Act, 1970
(vi)    Department of Geography, P.U., has been awarded a prestigious collaborative research project titled ‘Capacity Building for Policy and Planning in Kenya, Tanzania and India. The project carries an award of CAN $2,98,000. Under this project, four students will visit Canada for three months each over two years starting from Sept., 2019 until Summer 2021. 
(vii)   As many as 34,369 candidates registered for admission in various courses for 5311 (approx.) seats in P.U. till the last day for online registration process i.e. 10th July, 2019.
(viii)  A team of six students from UIET, won the 1st Prize in the Smart India Hackathon 2019 – Hardware Edition held at IIT Hyderabad from July 8 to 12. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-.
(ix)    Prof. Deepti Gupta, Department of English & Cultural Studies, has been selected by USIEF for Fulbright-Nehru Award Programme from Oct. 5-19, 2019 in the United States.
