MC Chandigarh starts patch work at Mata Mansa Devi road to improve commuter convenience
*Chandigarh, September 11:-* In a significant step towards enhancing civic infrastructure and public amenities, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, conducted a review of the beautification and maintenance plan for the Cremation Ground in Sector-25.
The review followed a detailed site inspection carried out by the Commissioner, accompanied by Sh. Sanjay Arora, Chief Engineer, and other concerned officials from the Engineering Wing of the Municipal Corporation.
During the inspection, several key issues were identified that require immediate intervention. These include cleanliness, infrastructure repairs, water and electricity supply, parking arrangements, and overall public convenience. The need for improved ash storage facilities, landscaping, and dedicated spaces for different religious communities was also emphasized.
The Commissioner directed the concerned engineers to take immediate short term relief measures including:
Construction of a prefabricated ash storage room to provide dignified and secure temporary storage.
Deployment of additional manpower through outsourcing for enhanced cleanliness and waste disposal.
Installation of temporary water taps and coolers at key locations for public use.
Appointment of temporary supervisors and electricians for routine maintenance and service reliability.
Installation of temporary signage to guide visitors efficiently.
Basic horticulture and beautification efforts using available resources.
The Commissioner also reviewed a comprehensive long-term upgrade plan with an estimated outlay of ₹7 crore. The plan includes:
Civil works for flooring, pavements, planters, sheds, and permanent ash storage lockers.
Special repairs to benches, metal structures, roofs, and pyre platforms.
Parking area improvements with stamped concrete pathways and additional gates.
Permanent signage for better navigation and public information.
Reconstruction of staff quarters, creation of public seating areas, and upgrade of religious sections, including the Muslim graveyard and Bahai Gulistan.
Overhaul of electrical infrastructure and installation of air-conditioning systems.
A two-year maintenance contract to ensure consistent upkeep and service delivery.
Development of horticulture zones and public health amenities to enhance the environment.
The Commissioner said that the proposed development aims to transform the Sector-25 Cremation Ground into a model public facility that upholds the values of dignity, respect, and environmental sensitivity. With a balanced focus on both immediate improvements and long-term sustainability, the Municipal Corporation is committed to creating a space that serves the community with compassion and efficiency.
