*Mayor and Commissioner orders swift action on public concerns during rains*
*Mayor and Commissioner inspects waterlogged areas, push for urgent solutions*
*Chandigarh, September 3:-* Taking swift action on public concerns, City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, and MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS conducted an on-ground inspection of key waterlogged zones across the city today. The inspection aimed to assess ongoing repair and drainage operations and expedite the resolution of long-standing issues impacting residents.
The Mayor first visited the roundabout between Sectors 14/15 and 24/25 to review the ongoing CBD slab repair work. She was accompanied by Municipal Corporation Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS and Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora. Engineers at the site informed her that slab casting had been completed 20 days before and that backfilling would commence after a seven-day curing period. Emphasizing the importance of restoring smooth traffic flow, the Mayor directed that the work be completed on a priority basis.
Smt. Babla then proceeded to the underbridge between Sectors 11/15, a frequent site of water accumulation during rains. She instructed engineers to resolve the issue at the earliest. Officials briefed her that high-capacity machinery had already been deployed to drain the accumulated water.
Earlier in the day, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, visited several low-lying areas with concerned Executive Engineers to personally monitor waterlogged areas. He instructed field teams to maintain constant vigilance, especially in zones with a history of repeated complaints. He also directed immediate deployment of suction pumps to evacuate water from affected buildings and compounds to ensure the safety of lives and property.
The Mayor said that the civic body reaffirmed its commitment to resolving monsoon-related challenges promptly and ensuring better preparedness in future.
