7th Pran Nath Vohra Lecture by Prof. R.J. Butcher at PU
The Department of Chemistry, Panjab University organized the 7th Pran Nath Vohra Lecture as a tribute to the distinguished alumnus of the department, late Dr. Pran Nath Vohra (1919-2004). The Lecture was delivered by Prof. R.J. Butcher, an eminent scientist, from Department of Chemistry, Howard University, Washington DC 20059, USA, on the topic, Conformational and pH Control of Spin State in Spin-Crossover Iron(II) and Iron(III) Complexes.
In the lecture, he showed versatile series of tripodal ligands based
both tris(2-aminoethyl)amine and various substituted carboxyimidazole derivatives, a series of Ferrous, Cobalt, and Manganese complexes, which show a wide variety of physical behaviours including pH control of spin state, seven coordination, proton coupled electron transfer (PCET), and supramolecular systems Prof. Butcher was NASA Summer Faculty Fellow at Goddard Space Flight Center, summer from 1987-1988. He was Co-Editor, Acta Crystallographica E: Data Reports and Editor of the Special Issue of Structural Chemistry devoted to Structural Science in India (2007). He is the recipient of various awards including Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemists (FRSC), 2018, Sigma Xi Visitors Medal for Outstanding Research at the University of Virginia in 1977. Prof. Butcher is a leading researcher working on inorganic clusters and pharmacological active compounds. He has published almost 1400 research papers with more than 14,600 citation and h index is 52.Prof. K.N. Singh, Chairman of the department expressed gratitude and appreciation towards the generous contribution of Dr. P N Vohra. Prof. Parvinder Singh CoE, P.U., alumnus of the chemistry department presided over the function. He stressed that such endowment funds will really support and accelerate the departmental research
activities in multifaceted ways. Dr. G.R. Chaudhary, associate professor and convener of Pran Nath Vohra Trust Fund presented the vote of thanks.
