To steer the mandate of the Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (CSDE), Panjab University, a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) was co-hosted with University Business School (UBS) for students of Master of Business Administration. The Valedictory Function of the nine-day SEC on Mastering Basic to Advanced Excel was held. The SEC aimed to equip the participants with the wide-ranging functionality of Microsoft Excel, focusing on practical applications, automation, and AI-driven functions. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, Dr. Pradeep Khanna, Group Project Manager, Infosys Ltd., addressed the participating students, emphasizing that the world’s most valuable resource is no longer gold or oil but data. With new skills and technologies being introduced much faster than a decade ago, it is imperative to be a life-long learner. Excel is too set for a transformation as the need for more effective methods to manage data increases. Dr. Khanna lauded the CSDE and UBS initiatives to meet the skilling needs of the students.
Panchkula, September 9: Dr. Yash Garg, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, has said that the Election Commission of India is offering the option of home voting for persons with disabilities (PwDs) and voters over 85 years of age to ensure their participation in the democratic process. This service is optional and requires completion of Form 12-D, which must be submitted by September 10.

Dr. Garg emphasized that to utilize the home voting option, eligible voters must complete Form 12-D and submit it to the Returning Officer within five days of the election notification (September 5, 2024). Additionally, divyang voters must provide a copy of their disability certificate, showing a disability of 40 percent or more, and must be listed in the voter list.
Dr. Garg also said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will deliver Form 12-D directly to the homes of the eligible voters. A team of polling officers will then visit these homes to facilitate the voting process. This team will include a videographer and police personnel to ensure the process adheres to Election Commission guidelines and maintains voting secrecy.

*Chandigarh, September 9:* To support the health of its sanitation workers and staff, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a month-long health camp under the “Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao” campaign. This initiative is in collaboration with the TCI Foundation and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC). The health camp supports the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and MCC’s commitment to the welfare of its sanitation workers.
City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar inaugurated the mega cancer screening camp at the Community Centre, Sector 11, in the presence of Sh. Sachin Galav, area councillor, Joint Commissioner Sh. Gurinder Singh Sodhi, PCS, MOH Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, other senior officers of the civic body, and MCC employees.
Cancer cases are increasing in our society, making early detection and timely treatment essential. This camp provides an important opportunity for cancer screening for our sanitation workers and employees, helping to extend their lives. The camp will also promote healthy lifestyles by raising awareness about the early signs and symptoms of cancer through information and education.

The month-long health camp will screen all sanitation workers involved in garbage collection from households and commercial areas, as well as those working at Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Key highlights of the cancer screening camp include Oral Cancer and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screenings for males and Oral, Breast, and Cervical Cancer screenings for females. The camp also offers free medical check-ups, vaccinations, and healthcare services, including general health examinations, vision tests, dental check-ups, and the distribution of essential medicines.
MCC plans to organize 30 health camps, benefiting over 8,000 employees, irrespective of their employment criteria (Regular, Contractual, Agency, Daily Wage). These camps will be held at various locations, as strategically planned by the sanitation Wing.
Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar commended the sanitation wing’s efforts in organizing an awareness and screening camp. He emphasized that the health and welfare of sanitation workers and MCC staff are top priorities. He reaffirmed that the Municipal Corporation has provided insurance coverage for all garbage collectors and MRF staff, regardless of their employment status.
He also noted that organizing this health camp is a fitting tribute to these unsung heroes and reflects the city’s commitment to its workforce. In 2023, Chandigarh was honored with the ‘Safaimitra Surakshit’ title by Her Excellency, the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu. Through initiatives like this, we are dedicated to maintaining that honor and ensuring the well-being of our sanitation workers.

पंचकूला के उपायुक्त एवं जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी डाॅ. यश गर्ग ने कहा कि 5 सिंतबर को हरियाणा विधानसभा चुनाव 2024 की नोटिफिकेशन जारी होने के उपरांत नामांकन प्रक्रिया शुरू हो चुकी है जो 12 सिंतबर तक जारी रहेगी। उन्होने कहा कि चुनावों को निष्पक्ष और पारदर्शी ढंग से आयोजित करवाने के लिए एक्सपैंडिचर मानिटरिंग कमेटी का अहम योगदान होता है। उन्होने कहा कि यह सुनिश्चित करना हम सब की जिम्मेदारी है कि चुनाव किसी भी प्रकार के धन-बल से प्रभावित न हो।
जिला निवार्चन अधिकारी ने कहा कि चुनाव आयोग द्वारा चुनाव में प्रत्येक उम्मीदवार के लिए खर्च की सीमा निर्धारित की गई है और अधिकारी इसी सीमा में चुनावी खर्च सुनिश्चित करें। इसके लिए एक्सपैंडिचर मानिटरिंग कमेटी के अधिकारी अन्य विभागों के नोडल अधिकारियों के साथ तालमेल बनाते हुए कार्य करें। उन्होने कहा कि किसी भी प्रकार की आवश्यक सूचना को आपस में अवश्य सांझा करंे। उन्होने कहा कि चुनाव के दौरान अवैध शराब, कैश, हथियार और अवांछित लोगों की आवाजाही को रोकने के लिए प्रत्येक नाके पर सीसीटीवी कैमरा लगाए जा रहे हैं ताकि किसी भी प्रकार की अवैध गतिविधी पर नजर रखी जा सके। वर्तमान में जिला में 9 नाके लगाए गए हैं।
बैठक में बताया गया कि चुनाव में अवैध शराब की सप्लाई को रोकने के लिए जिला में नियमित तौर पर शराब के ठेकों की चैकिंग की जा रही है। इसके अलावा प्रतिदिन शराब की बोतलों के स्टाॅक, खरीद एवं बिक्री की रिपोर्ट भी ली जा रही है। चुनाव आचार संहिता लगने के उपरांत जिला में अब तक शराब की 500 बोतल जब्त की जा चुकी है। बैठक में यह भी बताया गया कि औचक निरिक्षण के लिए एंफोर्समेंट ब्यूरो के साथ चार टीमों का गठन किया गया है।

*Chandigarh, September 6:-* City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar said here today that a special squad of officers will be constituted to deal with day to day affairs related to Swachh Survekshan-2024 parameters on ground level.
While presiding over a review meeting, the Mayor asked the concerned officers to constitute a team of officers in which all the wings of MCC will look after daily affairs of the Survekshan on ground level. He said that the team will check all the violations related falling under the jurisdiction of MCC and defaulters will be challaned on the spot as per the norms. He further said that the team will also see problems and issues related to their respective wings and resolve the same at their own level.
The Mayor directed to organize monthly awareness camps in the villages, colonies and slums including all peripheral areas of city to create awareness among citizens regarding swachh survekshan and its parameters. He said that special cleanliness drives be carried out on regular basis to clean toilets besides providing drinking water facility in the colonies and villages.
The Mayor asked the concerned engineers to put up status of legacy waste mining project at Dadumajra dumping site and regular camps be organized at the Dadumajra village and colony to resolve their day to day problems and other issues.

He asked the officers for monitoring the maintenance of toilet blocks outsourced to contractors on weekly basis through mobile app instead of monthly monitoring. He said that contractors not performing up to the mark in maintaining the toilet blocks be pulled up and their contracts be cancelled. He said directed that awareness material such as boards, hoardings of Swachhata campaigns be displayed in the toilet blocks falling under the jurisdiction of MCC.
The Mayor said that citizens be involved in Swachh Survekshan 2024 through creating mass awareness campaigns on regular basis. He said that LED display screens be arranged in heavy populated areas including sector 15, 17, 19, 22 and 34 to display various components of SS-2024 and different parameters. He said that projection of MC projects and best practices be displayed among masses.
He said that intensive awareness campaign be started to use Swachhata App among citizens and SLA be monitored properly. He said that Resident Welfare Associations and Market Welfare Associations be involved in all campaigns as they are major role players and stakeholders for implementing the schemes related to Swachhata.
The Mayor said that segregation of waste at source level be monitored properly specifically in peripheral areas of the city. He said that city level Self Help Groups be engaged to create door to door awareness for various components i.e. ban on single use plastic items, segregation of waste at source level, home composting, recycling of waste materials etc.
He said that that social support groups be created for cleanliness in slums and proper survey be conducted at these areas besides creating whatsup group for day to day problems and issues faced by residents of slum areas.
For street vendor zones, the Mayor said that they should be zero litter and well organized including providing the facilities of toilet blocks and drinking water. He asked the concerned officers to introduce single pattern pre fabricated mobile stalls for the vendors so that they look uniform in the vending zones.
On Plastic Mukt Shahar, the Mayor said that violators be challaned during first time and FIR be lodged against the permanent defaulters. He directed the concerned sanitary inspectors to nab the supplies of single use plastic bags to the vendors in apni mandis, market places and other vending sites.

पंचकूला सितंबर 5: जिला में 18 सितम्बर को राष्ट्रीय कृमि मुक्ति दिवस मनाया जाएगा। इस कार्यक्रम के तहत कृमि मुक्ति की दवा खिलाई जाएगी। इस संबंध में अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त श्री सचिन गुप्ता की अध्यक्षता में विभिन्न विभागों की जिला टास्क फोर्स की बैठक जिला सचिवालय के सभागार में आयोजित की गई । अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त ने बताया कि अभियान को लेकर जिले के सभी स्कूलों (सरकारी, गैर सरकारी व निजी स्कूलों, आंगनबाड़ी केंद्रों, कॉलेज, तकनीकी संस्थान, ईंट भट्टों व स्लम एरिया में एक से 19 वर्ष के लगभग 1.92 लाख बच्चों को निशुल्क दवा खिलाने का लक्ष्य रखा गया है ।

स्वास्थ्य विभाग ने सरकारी, निजी स्कूलों व आंगनबाड़ी केन्द्रों के बच्चों को इसके लिए चिन्हित कर लिया है।राष्ट्रीय कृमि मुक्ति दिवस मनाने के लिए 18 सितम्बर को एल्बेंडाजोल कि एक गोली सभी एक वर्ष से 19 वर्ष की उम्र के बच्चों को दी जाएगी। इसके अलावा, जो बच्चे किसी कारण से 18 सितम्बर को दवा खाने से छूट जाएंगे उन्हें 24 सितम्बर 2024 को मॉप उप राउंड के तहत यह दवा खिलाई जाएगी । अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त ने कहा कि बच्चों के बेहतर स्वास्थ्य के लिए सभी विभाग आपसी सामंजस्य स्थापित करते हुए राष्ट्रीय कृमि मुक्ति दिवस कार्यक्रम में 1 से 19 वर्षतक के सभी बच्चों को तथा 20-24 वर्ष वाली महिलाएं को भी दवा खिलाना सुनिश्चित करें। माता-पिता भी अपने बच्चों को दवा खिलाकर उनका अच्छा स्वास्थ्य एवं उज्ज्वल भविष्य बनाने के लिए अपना सहयोग दें ।
इस मौके पर डॉ शिवानी , डिप्टी सिविल सर्जन ने बताया कि कृमि संक्रमण से बचाव के लिए प्रत्येक वर्ष फरवरी व अगस्त माह में राष्ट्रीय स्वास्थ्य मिशन के अंतर्गत अल्बेंडाजोल की गोली बच्चों को दी जाती है। उन्होने बताया कि कृमि संक्रमण से बच्चों में कुपोषण और खून की कमी होती है तथा थकावट होना, पढ़ाई में मन न लगना आदि व अधिक कृमि होने से जी मिचलाना, दस्त, पेट दर्द, कमजोरी, भूख न लगना जैसे लक्षण हो सकते है ।उन्होने अपील की कि हमेशा साफ पानी पिये, खाना ढक कर रखें, खुले में शौच ना करें और हमेशा शौचालय का प्रयोग ही करें । इस मौके पर स्वास्थ्य विभाग के अधिकारियों के साथ-साथ महिला एवं बाल विकास विभाग, शिक्षा विभाग व अन्य विभागों के अधिकारी मौजूद रहे ।

जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने बताया कि चंडीगढ़ में शराब का कोटा ज्यादा है और रेट भी कम हैं। ऐसे में चुनाव के दौरान चंडीगढ़ से शराब की सप्लाई पर विशेष निगरानी रखने की आवश्यकता है । चुनाव आयोग के सख्त निर्देश हैं कि अवैध शराब की सप्लाई ना हो। उन्होंने कहा कि जीरकपुर से एनडीपीएस / ड्रग्स की मूवमेंट पर विशेष निगाह रखी जाए। उन्होंने कहा कि उपायुक्त मोहाली द्वारा इस संबंध में आवश्यक कदम उठाए जाएं। इसी प्रकार अपराधियों, अवांछित लोगों और भगोड़ों को चुनाव के दौरान चुनावी क्षेत्र में आने से रोका जाए। उन्होंने जिला में कालका व पंचकूला विधानसभा के चुनाव को शांतपूर्वक ढंग से करवाने के लिए आपसी सहयोग की अपील की।
पुलिस उपायुक्त हिमाद्री कौशिक ने चुनाव के दौरान कानून व्यवस्था बनाए रखने और ड्रग्स और अन्य प्रतिबंधित पदार्थों की आवाजाही को रोकने के लिए विभिन्न बिन्दुओं पर चर्चा की। उन्होंने कहा कि वर्तमान में पुलिस द्वारा नौ इंटर डिस्ट्रिक्ट नाके लगाए गए हैं। इनमें से सात अन्य प्रदेशों की साथ लगती सीमा पर स्थापित किए गए हैं। इनमें पंचकूला के सेक्टर 17-18 पर, मौली जागरा और मनीमाजरा, पंजाब के जीरकपुर, रामनगर और पीर मुछल्ला और हिमाचल प्रदेश के बद्दी पर नाके शामिल हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि चुनाव से 72 घंटे पूर्व नाकों की संख्या बढ़ा दी जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि इस दौरान जिला के सीमा पर संयुक्त रूप से नाका लगाया जाए ताकि दूसरे प्रदेश से शराब, अन्य नशा, पैसा, हथियार को आने से रोका जा सके। उन्होंने कहा कि नाकों पर सीएपीएफ तैनात है और उनके द्वारा चेकिंग भी की जा रहा है। सभी नाकों पर सीसीटीवी की व्यवस्था भी की जा रही है ताकि किसी भी तरह की अवैध गतिविधियों पर पैनी नज़र रखी जा सके।
इस मौके पर अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त सचित गुप्ता, डीईटीसी एक्साइज आरके चौधरी , डीईटीसी सेल्ज हनीश गुप्ता, चुनाव नायब तहसीलदार अजय राठी सहित अन्य अधिकारीगण उपस्थित रहे।

*Chandigarh, 5 September:-* The Municipal Corporation celebrated Teachers’ Day under the “Swachhata Ki Mohar” initiative, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Swachhata Mentors for their role in empowering young minds toward sustainability.
Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, along with Joint Commissioner Sh. Gurinder Singh Sodhi, PCS, and MOH Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, honored Swachhata Mentors from schools and colleges across the city for their proactive and outstanding contributions in instilling the values of cleanliness and hygiene among students.
The Swachhata Mentors from schools and colleges shared their best practices with the City Mayor and Municipal Corporation officials, engaging students in solid waste and water management while guiding them toward sustainable living, aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission. Their efforts included raising awareness about waste segregation, home composting, eliminating single-use plastics, promoting zero waste living, as well as organic farming, plantation, water harvesting, and conservation—focusing on responsible waste management.

Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar appreciated the proactive efforts of all schools and colleges and urged them to support and collaborate with the Municipal Corporation in strengthening youth participation to make the city more sustainable.
He also added that the MCC is committed to progressive development, which has been recognized nationally. The contributions of each stakeholder have led to significant progress in solid waste and water management.
He further mentioned that with the cooperation of citizens, Chandigarh has improved its Swachh Survekshan ranking from 66th in 2021 to 11th in 2023. The city was honored with the ‘Safaimitra Surakshit’ title by Her Excellency, the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of combining efforts and sharing achievements to continue the journey toward the ‘Garbage-Free City’ mission. The platform encourages the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and innovative ideas to propel the city toward even greater heights.
He appealed to everyone to empower young minds to segregate their waste , adopt RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) practices like home composting and choosing eco-friendly options, citizens can contribute to the ‘Garbage-Free City’ mission.
The Municipal Corporation ensured all its events were Zero Waste. The Teachers’ Day highlights included the use of digital screens, glassware cutlery, and the elimination of tissue paper. Certificates and badges made from recycled materials, along with eco-friendly souvenirs crafted by Self-Help Groups (SHGs), were also featured, ensuring that no plastic was used and cleanliness was prioritized.

Rinku Kalia, eminent vocalist and winner of Zee TV’s musical realty show “Sa Re Ga Ma”, along with Sarangi maestro Vinod Pawar and noted ghazal singer Kanwar Jagmohan will be awarded the “Kala Pratibha Awards-2024” of the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi(CSNA).
Announcing this here today, Sudesh Sharma and Vikrant Seth, Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, of the CSNA, said while Kalia would be awarded in the category of folk vocal/folk instruments while Pawar in the classical vocal /classical instruments. Jagmohan will be awarded in the light classical category.

Besides, nine other artistes would be awarded in the categories of dance, music and drama. A lifetime achievement award and an art promoter award would also given by the CSNA, which is awarding the tricity artistes for the first time.
Sharma and Seth informed that an Award Selection Committee, comprising eminent artistes was constituted to select the winners from entries received by July 31, 2024. The awardees will get award at a grand function to be organized at Chandigarh soon, they added.
