*Turning waste into wonders: MC Chandigarh sosts “Swachhotsav” art exhibition showcasing women-led sustainable innovations*
*Chandigarh, September 20:-* In a vibrant celebration of creativity and sustainability, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a unique three-day “Waste to Art” Exhibition at Sector 22 Market under the ongoing Swachhata Hi Sewa Pakhwara campaign. The event, themed “Swachhotsav”, highlighted the innovative efforts of local women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) in transforming waste and organic materials into beautiful, eco-friendly products.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Special Commissioner, MCC, Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, in the presence of area Councillor Sh. Damanpreet Singh, President of the Market Welfare Association and Swachh Bharat Brand Ambassador Sh. Parveen Duggal, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, and several other dignitaries.
The SHG artists showcased an impressive array of handcrafted items, including dhoop and agarbattis made from recycled floral waste, handmade soaps, papier-mâché art, miniature canvas paintings, woolen crafts, and eco-friendly cloth bags and potlis.
Speaking at the event, Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar emphasized, “These exhibitions are a powerful platform to promote sustainable products while supporting the livelihoods of local women. MCC remains committed to encouraging eco-conscious entrepreneurship through SHGs.”
Area Councillor Sh. Damanpreet Singh added, “Maintaining swachhata is a shared responsibility. It’s inspiring to see how women’s SHGs are not only conserving the environment but also building community resilience through sustainable practices.”
The event drew enthusiastic participation from local residents, with many purchasing the showcased products and engaging with the SHG members. The MCC plans to continue organizing such events across the city, reinforcing the dual mission of cleanliness and community empowerment.
