Tree Plantation drive at Biochemistry, PU

Chandigarh:

Tree plantation was carried out in the department of Biochemistry, Panjab University today from 3 pm onwards with the assistance of the Horticulture department of the University. More than 40 trees of Ashoka and Hamilia were planted in the premises of the BMS Block-II in South campus. “A lot of excitement could be seen among the faculty, staff and students of the department and they have adopted the same with a promise to nurture the trees for a greener campus” as stated by the Chairperson of the department, Prof. Archana Bhatnagar.

Chandigarh:

“The students were asked to constantly innovate and reinvent by acquiring new skills”, said Shri. Mandip S Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chandigarh, while addressing the MBA (Sectoral) Batch 2019-21 of  University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University, Chandigarh at the Orientation Programme, here 
today. He stressed on the importance of written as well as oral communication skills in order to motivate or to influence people. He also added that listening of equally important to understand the perspective of the other side. She Brar further added that to be a good leader, one has to be a good follower.  He further urged the students to 
maintain high level of integrity and follow values and ethics, both in professional life as well as in personal conduct. 
       

Prof. Raj Kumar ,Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his address appreciated UIAMS for its industry specific specialised courses. He advised the students to use these two years to equip themselves with the right skills. He 
encouraged the students towards the culture of innovation, start-ups and entrepreneurship. PU, VC encouraged the students to extend their interaction across other departments and build multi-disciplinary approach to innovations and problem solving. He urged them to work for Corporate linkages. 

Shri. T.K. Ruby CEO Raymed Pharmaceutical Ltd. Chandigarh in his address said that the students are like waves of the sea and they should not and cannot be stopped. They have immense potential but they have to take up the responsibility for their own lives. He also shared his mantras of success with the students stating that physical fitness, mental alertness, goal clarity and proactiveness are absolutely essential. The Director, UIAMS, Prof. Upasna Joshi welcomed the esteemed guests and the new students to the occasion. She briefed the students about the Institute, the teaching learning process at UIAMS and the various activities to be conducted in the next two years. The students were also briefed about the various curricular and co-curricular clubs in UIAMS that the students can be a part of. They were further briefed about the placement activities organised by the placement cell at UIAMS.

UIET students win 1st Prize in Smart India Hackathon-Hardware Edition at IIT Hyderabad

CHANDIGARH:        JULY 13, 2019

A team of six students from UIET, Panjab University, participated and won the 1st prize in the Smart India Hackathon 2019- Hardware Edition held at IIT Hyderabad from 8th-12th July 2019. The team was given the problem of preventing accidents like sudden increase in temperature, pressure, vibration, noise etc. in industries, by the company Kokuyo
Camlin. Solution involved using real time monitoring, tracking dashboard, predicting critical situations and taking automated control measures. Total 20,000 teams participated in the initial rounds and 250 qualified for the nationals to solve problems on 117 problem statements. The team was declared winner of the 5 day National Finals at IIT Hyderabad after clearing the idea round, the prototyping round and the finale.They were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-. The team comprised of UIET students: Akshay Kumar (CSE), Bipin Kumar (IT), CharviMendiratta (ECE), Dhawal Sharda (ECE), Sagar Kalra (IT), Rahul Bafila (CSE) as participants, and Mayur Vashishth (MECH) and Pranav
Kumar (ECE) as mentors.

Two Day National Conference on ‘Draft New Education Policy 2019’ to be held at PU

CHANDIGARH:        JULY 13, 2019

 A two day national conference titled ‘ Draft New Education Policy 2019 : A Way Ahead’ will be held at Panjab University on 16th and 17th July 2019. The conference is being organized by Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM) and Department of Education, PU, under the aegis of PMMMNMTT, Ministry of Human Resource
Development, GOI. The two day event will have experts deliberate on the draft of the New Education Policy 2019 with special focus on reforms in Governance and Governance Structures. The conference will have sessions on School Education and Teacher Education, Higher Education and its challenges, Professional and Technical Education;
and Governance and administration of Education and Research.

            The two day conference assumes significance as it is an effort in contributing towards country’s first education policy of the 21st century. “The aim of this conference is to bring together various stakeholders and prepare a compendium of recommendations on DNEP 2019.The registration for the conference is open for administrators of
educational institutes, teacher educators and teachers from schools as well as higher education institutes” informed Prof. Nandita Singh and Prof. Latika Sharma, Program Coordinator for the two day conference.
