Self-development workshop at PU

Chandigarh:

Awareness and Self Development workshops organised at Department of Education Ms Nidhi Chopra, Manager Campus France for the French Embassy informed the M. Ed and M.A
Education students about higher education opportunities and scholarships in France. The
interactive workshop was coordinated by Ms Rajneesh and Mr. Dev  JRFs in the
Department.


Chairperson Prof Latika informed that the two workshops were organised for postgraduate
students. Another workshop for enhancing goal setting, perseverance and team work was
facilitated by Alka Gauri Ji and Tenzin who are life long kaaryakartas of Swami
Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari at Panchkula centre. Susheel and Shivam engaged the
students in activity based team learning and patriotic group singing. The message of
success through perseverance from the life of Eknath ji, founder of Rock Memorial  was
shown through powerpoint presentation.

Mrs. Emma Seagreaves, Associate Head and Dr. Damian Mather, LL.M. Program Co-ordinator from Manchester Law School of Manchester Metropolitan University, UK visited the Department of Laws, Panjab University here today.

Chandigarh:

The team interacted with the faculty members in the presence of Prof. Nandita Singh, Dean International Students and Prof. Meenu Paul, Chairperson d. During interaction, both the institutions explored possibilities for collaboration in research and publication, student exchange program. Prof. Nandita Singh, discussed the formalities to sign any MoU with the Law School in particular and University in general. The possible common areas of Law identified in both the law schools were International Human Rights Law, International Business Law, Cyber Law, Intellectual Property Law. 


Dr. Shipra Gupta, introduced the team members to the students during the interactive session. During interaction, Ms. Emma and Dr. Damian made a presentation regarding the courses offered by MMU, UK. They also highlighted the assured fellowships offered by MMU, UK to all the Indian students. The visit was co-ordinated by Dr. Dinesh Kumar.

Competitions held for Hindi Diwas at PU

Chandigarh September 13, 2019

Tagore Literary Club of the Institute of Educational Technology & Vocational Education, Panjab University today organized an Essay Writing competition, Dictation Competition, Poster making and Slogan writing activities on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. The topic of the event was “Hindi, Hind Ki Dhadkan”. 25 students from the Institute participated in the Poster making and Slogan Writing and 20 students participated in essay writing and dictation. During this celebration the students showed their talent and creative skills. Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur, Chairperson of the Institute highlighted the importance of  ‘Hindi’ as Matre Bhasha. She gave a brief description of history of this language.
Event Coordinator Dr. Amritpal Kaur described the changing face of Hindi in the present scenario through her presentation. All faculty members were presented to make this programme a success.

Celebrate 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Chandigarh September 13, 2019

550th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated by the Department of Music, Panjab University, Chandigarh with presentation of Kirtan by the students of the department and Dr. Alankar Singh, Department of Music, Punjabi University, Patiala and lecture-cum-demonstration by Prof. Nivedita Singh, Department of Music, Punjabi University, Patiala. Prof. Karamjit Singh, Registrar, in his address said that the message of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is to remove ego from your life and focus on work. While quoting various references from Shri Guru Granth Sahib, he talked about tolerance, inequality, corruption, women exploitation and universal brotherhood.


  Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instructions graced the occasion.

PU VC interacted with PIs

Chandigarh September 12, 2019

   An interaction of Principal Investigators (PI) of Panjab University was organized, here today with  Professor Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University.  Professor R.K. Singla, Dean
Research apprised the PIs of the intent of the Vice Chancellor of promoting research and innovation agenda of the University.  While appreciating the efforts of the faculty members in bringing various
kinds of research projects, the PU VC shared that the interaction was called to understand the concerns of PIs so that process of implementation of research proposals is facilitated.  He motivated the faculty members to share their concerns and issues regarding their Research Projects without thinking what we will think.

        Sh. Vikram Nayyar, Finance and Development Officer (FDO), PU informed about various initiatives taken by the Office of FDO to facilitate and speed-up the implementation of research projects. Principal Investigators shared their concerns and issues they are facing at different levels, which were assured to be resolved.  The Vice Chancellor is very affirmative of providing a conducive
environment for research to all the faculty members.

Crusade to stop single use plastic in Sector 25, Janta & Kumhar Colony

Chandigarh, September 12:- The Children of Child Parliaments of sector 25 organized a drive to say, “No to Single use Plastic” in Sector 25, Janta & Kumhar Colony, Chandigarh.  Mrs. Sheela Devi, area councillor of Ward No.5, Mr. Sukhwinder Singh, Sanitary Inspector, Childline (1098), the team of AHTU (Anti Human Trafficking Unit) as well as Parwaaz Foundation were also took part in the rally. During this crusade, area Councillor, distributed free biodegradable bags to street vendors.  Mrs. Sheela Devi and children from the Child Parliaments sensitized the street vendors of Janta & Kumhar Colony about the dangers of single use plastic and highlighted the efforts of the Municipal Corporation to abolish single use plastic in Chandigarh.

Commissioner directs engineers to repair booths in Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh, September 12:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today directed the concerned engineers of MCC to get the repair work done immediately at booths in vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran.

During the Thursday field level visit, the Commissioner visited ward No.24 alongwith Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, area councilor, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Sh. Shailender Singh, Superintending Engineer, Public Health other and concerned officers of MCC.

The team visited Thada Market and the commissioner directed the chief engineer to complete the work in a fast manner. They also visited Mauli complex, Railway colony and other parts of Vikas Nagar. The team visited the site of new park and green belt. The Commissioner directed the concerned officers to repair footpath areas wherever required and repair roads with providing pavers in the narrow streets. They also visited the area Vikas Nagar part-II for development.

The Commissioner directed the enforcement inspectors to remove encroachments from public places and instructed sanitation inspectors to challan the violators for littering and check these with regard to health and hygiene.

Workshop on Plastic Tide Turner Challenge at UILS, PU

Chandigarh September 12, 2019

 A One Day Workshop on “Plastic Tide Turner Challenge” in partnership with WWF-India & UN Environment was organised in University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, here today by Department of Community Education & Disability Studies, PU, Chandigarh in collaboration with State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), U.T. Chandigarh & the Legal Aid Society, UILS, PU.

   The workshop was aimed on the cutting on our use of single-use disposable plastic also talked about the negative and disastrous effects of use of plastic in the long run.

 The workshop was inaugurated by the tremendous speeches given by the Chief Guests Shri Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration; Shri Mahavir Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge and Member Secretary, SLSA, Chandigarh; Dr. Dazy Zarabi, Chairperson, Department of Community Education and
Disability Studies, PU; and Shri Pramod Sharma, Founder Coordinator YUVSATTA.

 It witnessed a great zeal of participation of nearly 200 students who were being mentored by Ms. Ambreen Khan, manager, WWF. The students were also made aware of the correct way of disposing the single-use plastic. Overall it was an enriching and fruitful experience for the students.
