PU Announces Entry Regulations for Holi Celebrations on March 14, 2025

Chandigarh, March 13, 2025: In order to ensure smooth movement and security within the Panjab University Campus, Panjab University has announced special entry and exit regulations on the occasion of the Holi festival.

In an important notice issued here today, the Dean Student Welfare office has informed that from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Holi, i.e., March 14, 2025, entry and exit to the Sector-14 Campus and South Campus of Panjab University shall be regulated through Gate No. 2, opposite Sector-15, and the Alumni Gate, South Campus, opposite Sector-14. Other gates, including Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 3 in Sector-14 Campus, UIET Gate opposite Sector-25, and Dental College Gate opposite Sector-38 in the South Campus, will remain closed. To avoid inconvenience during security checks, all employees and students have been advised to carry their identity cards at all times.

Regarding the hostel regulations, girls will be allowed to leave their hostels if they wish, but boys will not be permitted to enter the girls’ hostels. As a precautionary measure, all shops in the vicinity of the Student Centre will remain closed on March 14, 2025.

A PU spokesperson said that these measures have been implemented to maintain order and ensure a safe and joyous Holi celebration for all members of the Panjab University community.

 *Chandigarh, March 12:-* The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has chalked out a plan to conserve drinking water during this summer and planned to impose heavy fine on wasting water by any citizen or institution under clause 13 (x) 29 (a) 34 (d), (e), (g) & 47 of the Chandigarh Water Supply Bye-Laws as amended time to time.

          While sharing about the water conservation plan, the MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS said that the Municipal Corporation will take action against those found watering of lawns during water supply hours, Washing of Vehicles and Court yards etc., Overflow from Over Head/Under Ground Water Tanks, Leakage from Water Meter Chamber, Wastage of Water due to non installation of bib taps, Leakage in pipe line from ferrule to Water Meter, Leakage from desert cooler, Installation and use of booster pump direct on water supply line and Wastage of misuse of water through any other reason.

          He said that water connection of repeated offender will be suspended without any prior notice alongwith imposing heavy penalty. The citizens have been advised to get the defects/fault rectified with a period of 24 hours of the issue of this notice, falling which the water supply to the said premises shall be closed/disconnected and a fine/penalty amounting to Rs. 5788/- for breach of provisions of Bye-Laws shall be imposed, which will be recovered through regular water supply charges bill.

          The Commissioner appealed to the citizens of the city beautiful to cooperate and help the Corporation to meet with the demand by avoiding wastage and conserving precious water.

The Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF) at Panjab University is set to inaugurate its latest high-end analytical instrument, the X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) system. This state-of-the-art equipment, worth ₹5 crores, has been procured through a generous grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, reinforcing SAIF’s commitment to advancing scientific research.

The inauguration ceremony will be graced by the esteemed Dr. Gurtej Singh Sandhu, Principal Fellow and Vice President at Micron Technology, who will officially unveil the XPS instrument. Dr. Sandhu, a distinguished figure in the semiconductor industry, holds an impressive 1,382 U.S. utility patents, placing him among the top inventors globally.  His pioneering work in thin-film processes and semiconductor device fabrication has significantly advanced memory chip technologies.

The event will take place in the august presence of Honorable Professor Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, along with several former Directors of SAIF, whose invaluable contributions have played a pivotal role in shaping the facility into a premier research hub.

X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) is an indispensable tool in materials science, enabling precise analysis of surface chemistry, elemental composition, and chemical states. Its applications span diverse fields, device fabrication, nanotechnology, environmental science, and advanced materials research.

Under the leadership of Prof. Gaurav Verma, Director of SAIF/CIL, the facility continues to expand its research capabilities, fostering innovation and excellence in scientific exploration.

Panjab University Achieves Historic Podium Finish at 38th AIU National Youth Festival

Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has achieved a historic milestone by securing the second Runner-Up Champion Trophy at the 38th AIU Inter-University National Youth Festival. The national festival was hosted by Amity University, Noida.

This marks the first time PU has attained a podium finish at this prestigious national event. Notably, every PU participant who qualified for the national level secured a position, showcasing the university’s commitment to excellence in cultural and artistic pursuits.

PU students delivered stellar performances across various categories, with top achievements including a first-place finish in Skit by Mahin Vaidya, Arshiya Verma, Khushi Sehgal, Eishit Goel, Tanmay Goel, and Garv Rajora from G.G.D.S.D. College, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Esha from D.A.V. College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, secured first position in Western Vocal Solo, while Rupali Sharma from Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, won first place in Mimicry. Neelam from Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana, claimed the top spot in Mehndi Designing.

The Installation team, comprising Sahil and Prateek Dutt Sharma from Govt. College of Art, Sector 10, Chandigarh, along with Mohammad Atif from G.G.D.S.D. College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, and Achom Lamnganba from D.A.V. College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, secured second place.

In the One-Act Play category, Simran Chopra, Kanak Thakur, and Divyanshu from G.G.D.S.D. College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, achieved third position. The university’s Cultural Procession team also secured third place. The Group Song (Indian) team, featuring Swar Sharma, Esha, Aditya Bhagra, Vanshika, Jasagam Kaur, and Pragati from D.A.V. College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, also secured third position. In solo performances, Hargunpreet Kaur from Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, won fourth place in Classical Vocal Solo, while Aditya Bhagra from D.A.V. College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, finished fourth in Western Instrumental Solo.

Adding to these individual and team victories, PU secured the Overall 1st Runner-Up position in the Theatre category.

Lauding the students’ achievements, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig said, “This remarkable feat at the national youth festival is a reflection of the unwavering dedication, passion, and talent of our students. *Chandigarh, February 27 :-*  City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, conducted an extensive visit to Ward No. 1, accompanied by local area Councillor Smt. Jaswinder Kaur and officers of all wings of the Municipal Corporation, including Horticulture, Road Division, Public Health, Electrical, and the Sanitation Department.

*MC Commissioner Amit Kumar terminates services of three sanitary inspectors*

*Chandigarh, February 27:-*  Taking strict note of a news published regarding unnecessary challaning done by the Sanitary Inspectors of MC Chandigarh, the Commissioner MCC, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has dismissed the services of Sh. Atul Rana, Sh. Baljinder Singh and Sh. Shashi kant, Sanitary Inapectors (through outsourced).

The three Inspectors were deployed with the MOH department through Outsource agency. The challan of a restaurant at 11.30 pm at outside the area of their preview.

After the dismessal orders of the Commissioner, the MCC has written to the Outsource agency that the services of these three Inspectors are no more required in the office of MOH and their services may be discontinued with immediate effect.

चंडीगढ़, 26 फरवरी: फुटबॉल प्रेमियों के लिए यह खबर बेहद जानकारीपूर्ण और उत्साहजनक है। पिछले एक दशक से फुटबॉल के लिए व्यापक योजनाएं बना रहा जेनरेशन अमेजिंग फाउंडेशन अपने तकनीकी विशेषज्ञ कोचों और बेहतरीन फुटबॉल खिलाड़ियों के सहयोग से अब फुटबॉल प्रेमियों को विशेष प्रशिक्षण देकर राष्ट्रीय स्तर का खिलाड़ी बनाने में मदद करेगा। आज चंडीगढ़ में वाईएफसी रुड़का कलां और जेनरेशन अमेजिंग द्वारा जेनरेशन अमेजिंग कम्युनिटी क्लब की बहुउद्देशीय खेल सुविधा के लिए आपसी समझौता किया गया, जिसमें लोकसभा सदस्य मालविंदर सिंह कंग की उपस्थिति में जीए फाउंडेशन के कार्यकारी निदेशक जसीम अल अली व् यूथ फुटबॉल क्लब (वाईएफसी) रुड़का कलां के अध्यक्ष गुरमंगल दास ने इस एमओयू (आपसी समझौता) पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

इस संबंध में जानकारी देते हुए फाउंडेशन के कार्यकारी निदेशक जसीम अल अली ने बताया कि यूथ फुटबॉल क्लब (वाईएफसी) रुड़का कलां के सहयोग से फाउंडेशन 2017 से इस क्षेत्र में कार्य कर रहा है। उन्होंने बताया कि रुड़का कलां में एक बहुउद्देशीय खेल सुविधा प्रदान की गई है, जहां हर साल लगभग 10 हजार फुटबॉल प्रेमियों को उत्कृष्ट माहौल में खेल तकनीकों की जानकारी दी जाएगी।

उन्होंने बताया कि उनके पास फुटबॉल पिच के साथ-साथ बास्केटबॉल, टेनिस, वॉलीबॉल और पिकलबॉल के लिए अलग-अलग सिंथेटिक कोर्ट और बहुउद्देशीय हॉल भी उपलब्ध हैं। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि 50 स्टेशनों वाला जिम भी उनके द्वारा बनाया गया है। इसके अलावा, 200 सीटों वाला बहुउद्देशीय हॉल भी निर्मित किया गया है, जहां प्रशिक्षण सहित अन्य गतिविधियां करवाई जाती हैं।

फीफा वर्ल्ड कप 2022 को प्रायोजित करने वाले जेनरेशन अमेजिंग फाउंडेशन के अलावा प्रवासी पंजाबियों के सहयोग से करोड़ों रुपये की लागत से बने इस परियोजना में बच्चों और युवाओं को मुफ्त प्रशिक्षण दिया जाएगा।

इस अवसर पर अपने संबोधन में वाईएफसी रुड़का कलां के संस्थापक और सीईओ गुरमंगल दास ने कहा कि इस परियोजना की शुरुआत उनके लिए बड़े गर्व की बात है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह सिर्फ एक स्पोर्ट्स कॉम्प्लेक्स नहीं है, बल्कि पंजाब के हजारों युवाओं की नई उम्मीदें हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि यहां युवा और बच्चे न केवल एथलेटिक्स से जुड़ी जानकारी प्राप्त करेंगे, बल्कि उन्हें सामाजिक सरोकारों और नशे के खिलाफ लड़ने की समझ भी मिलेगी।

इस अवसर पर विशेषज्ञ कोच हामिद अब्दुल अजीज ने कहा कि उन्हें बेहद खुशी है कि उन्हें बेहतरीन कोचों के साथ काम करने का अवसर मिला है, जो युवाओं को जीवन में ऊंचाइयों तक पहुंचाने में मदद कर रहे हैं।

*TVC cancels licenses of 4003 street vendors failed to deposit outstanding fee*

*Chandigarh, February 24:-* In a major decision against vending fee defaulters, the Town Vending Committee of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh accorded approval to cancel the licenses of 4003 street vendors, who have failed to deposit the outstanding fee with the MCC.

The 34th meeting of the Town Vending Committee (TVC) of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of the Commissioner Municipal Corporation Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS. The meeting was attended by all TVC members and concerned officers of MC, Chandigarh.

During the meeting, various key agenda points were discussed, focusing on streamlining vending regulations, improving vending zones, and addressing the concerns of street vendors. The committee deliberated on measures to enhance urban planning while ensuring the welfare of registered vendors in Chandigarh.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of a balanced approach that supports vendors’ livelihoods while maintaining the city’s cleanliness and order. The committee members actively participated in discussions, providing insights and suggestions for effective implementation of vending policies.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reaffirmed its commitment to transparent governance and sustainable urban vending practices. The decisions taken in the meeting will be implemented in coordination with all stakeholders to enhance the vending system in the city.

          *Chandigarh, February 23:-* Cultural function, performances and competitions marked the conclusion of the 53rd edition of three-day Chandigarh Rose Festival at Rose Garden, sector 16, Chandigarh with the Chief Secretary, UT, Chandigarh Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS distributing prizes to the winners of different competitions held during three day mega event organized by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

            City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Area Councillor Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora and other senior officers and councilors were also present during the prize distribution ceremony.

The Chief Secretary was the Chief Guest on the occasion and distributed prizes to winners of various competitions, participants of cultural events, band parties as well as gardeners and workers who contributed a lot to make this mega event very successful. He lauded the efforts of all the team of officers under the able guidance of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS to make the Rose festival success without incurring any expenditure from the Corporation coffers. He appreciated the efforts to make this event ‘Zero Budget and Zero Waste’ by way of getting sponsorship for each and every event organized during the three day festival.

On the third day a Musical Evening namely “Sham-e-Ghazal” has been organized by the Municipal Corporation in Rose Garden in association with Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademy during which Ghazal Maestro Sh. Atul Dubey and punjabi folk songs by Ms. Sunita Dua Sehgal enthralled audience by various melodious numbers.

Poetry, humour and satire had a free reign at ‘Hasya Kavi Sammelan’ organized by Ibarat Lekhak Kala Manch, Chandigarh during which city based famous Poet Naveen Neer and group enthralled audience and took the stage amid a robust round of applause.

During the day function various competition were held including on the spot painting competition. Sh. Ajay Chagti, IAS, Secretary Health, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest during the event.
