*Chandigarh, June 10:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has resumed the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Program for the sterilization of stray dogs with immediate effect at the ABC Centre, Raipur Kalan, Chandigarh.

Speaking about the development, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, stated that the program had been temporarily put on hold since 25th February this year due to administrative reasons. The program will now be carried out directly by the Municipal Corporation, ensuring a more efficient, humane, and systematic control of the stray dog population in the city.

He said that the ABC Program is a crucial step toward managing the stray dog population in a scientific and compassionate manner. The Commissioner emphasized that all sterilization procedures will be conducted strictly in accordance with the Animal Birth Control Rules and animal welfare guidelines, ensuring the safety and well-being of both animals and the community.

He requested the citizens to cooperate in this important initiative by reporting unsterilized stray dogs in their sectors, colonies, or nearby areas. *Chandigarh, June 7:-* Taking serious note of the increasing encroachments in market areas across the city, Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, has directed Joint Commissioner Sh. Sumeet Sihag to personally conduct surprise inspections to check unauthorized activities and restore public order.

Acting on these instructions, Joint Commissioner Sh. Sumeet Sihag conducted a surprise inspection this evening at Sector 15 Patel Market and the nearby vendors’ site. During the drive, numerous illegal vendors were found occupying public pathways and market space, causing obstruction to pedestrian movement and inconvenience to both shoppers and shopkeepers.

As a result of the inspection, total 52 challans were issued on the spot to violators for illegal encroachments. The Joint Commissioner also instructed the enforcement staff and area supervisors to maintain strict vigilance and ensure that such violations do not reoccur.

Spread across 3.5 acres, the Green Belt Park has been redeveloped under various funding heads, with a total investment exceeding ₹77.65 lakh.

He siad that under the Capital Head – Landscaping, the park now features 3 aesthetically designed huts for public rest, 40 durable steel pipe benches, and a wide variety of decorative plants, including golden cypress, ornamental shrubs, ground covers, and palm species—creating a lush, vibrant environment.

 While briefing about the features of the green belt, Mrs. Taruna Mehta siad that a 1,250-meter-long cement concrete walking and jogging track, constructed under the Ward Development Fund, promotes health and wellness among residents. A modern public toilet block has also been added, ensuring hygiene and convenience for daily visitors.

She further said additionally, the Mayor Development Fund supported the construction of toewalls beneath existing M.S. flat railings in various parts of the park, enhancing safety and visual appeal.

She said to further encourage evening use, the entire area is now well-lit with 55 energy-efficient lights. A dedicated outdoor gym zone, equipped with 8 fitness units, has been installed to promote physical activity among all age groups.

*Chandigarh, June 7:-* In a continued effort to remove illegal encroachments and reclaim public land, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out a demolition drive to remove unauthorized jhuggis near Nirankari Bhawan, Mouli Link Road, Manimajra.

Following the clear directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the joint enforcement and engineering team of MCC conducted the operation. During the drive, several unauthorized shanties and huts located in Pocket No. 6, Manimajra, were dismantled. These encroachments had been causing obstruction in public movement and posed safety, hygiene, and infrastructure concerns in the area.

The operation was carried out smoothly with the support of the local police and in the presence of senior MCC officials. Adequate arrangements were made to maintain public order during the drive.

*Chandigarh, June 6:-* In a decisive anti-encroachment drive, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today reclaimed prime government land from illegal occupation in Pocket No. 9, Manimajra.

Acting on the clear directions of the MC Commissioner, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the enforcement team and engineering wing, MCC removed unauthorized dairy structures and 48 illegally constructed huts from the site.

This action was part of the Corporation’s ongoing efforts to clear public land from encroachments and restore it for planned development and public use. The Commissioner had earlier instructed all relevant departments to identify and act against such encroachments without delay or exception.

*Chandigarh, June 4:-* In a proactive move to safeguard public spaces and maintain the aesthetic and ecological balance of the city, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the green belt area opposite Sham Mall, Sector 34.

Following the directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the enforcement wing took strict action against illegal parking of cars, motorcycles, and scooters in the green belt — a space reserved for greenery and public recreation. Such unauthorized usage not only causes inconvenience to the public but also damages the environment and violates civic norms.

During the drive, the enforcement team issued 20 challans to violators including Cars: 7 challans and Motorcycles/Scooters: 13 challans.

The Commissioner emphasized that public green spaces are meant for environmental sustainability and community use, and their encroachment by vehicles or any illegal activity will not be tolerated.

 This drive is part of MCC’s ongoing efforts to enforce discipline, promote responsible civic behavior, and ensure proper utilization of public land.

Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has directed all enforcement teams to regularly monitor such areas and take immediate action where violations are observed. He also appealed to citizens to support these efforts by parking only in designated areas and respecting public property.

*Chandigarh, May 31:–* A meeting of the committee to finalize the Smart Parking Solution project of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Saurabh Joshi. The meeting was attended by Sh. Umesh Ghai, Councillor, and other concerned officials of MCC.

The committee held detailed deliberations on various aspects of the Smart Parking project, including the overall scope of work, hardware and software components, and the eligibility and technical criteria for prospective bidders. Key features such as pink parking provisions for women, internet connectivity for real-time parking management, pre-booking of paid parking slots, and pre-paid parking cards for use across Chandigarh were discussed and finalized.

The committee also reviewed terms related to SLA penalties for non-compliance with RFP conditions, technical audit of IT tools, and the inclusion of a panic button feature in pink parking zones. Additional aspects finalized included mobile app and web portal-based slot booking, portal cabin specifications, stamp duty clauses, and surrender/exit terms for the service.

*Chandigrh, May 26:-* A delegation of five officials from Andhra Pradesh, led by Sri K. Kannababu, IAS, Commissioner of APCRDA (Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority), paid a day-long visit to Chandigarh to study the best practices of the local Municipal Corporation.”

The visit started with the presentation on best practices of Municipal Corporation at the MC office, Sector 17. Later, they were taken for site visits of MC.

Joint Commissioner Sh. Himanshu Gupta & Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora welcomed the delegation at MC office followed by a brief introduction of the projects and best practices and functions of the MC Chandigarh.

They gave a brief presentation on solid waste management system, segregation waste system, maintenance of roads, water supply system, maintenance of gardens and green belts, streetlights, tertiary treated water supply, Storm water management, Sewerage Treatment Plants, processing of construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant, horticulture waste processing plant, property tax, management of Gaushalas, vendor rehabilitation system and other projects of the MCC. The Delegation appreciated the operation and maintenance of the city and water supply system & solid management system in the city.
