चंडीगढ़ संगीत नाटक अकादमी ने कालीबाड़ी चंडीगढ़ के सहयोग से रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर के जन्मदिन के उपलक्ष्य में शनिवार, 20 मई को उनके नाटक ‘विसर्जन’ को टैगोर थिएटर में प्रस्तुत किया।

कालीबाड़ी चंडीगढ़ की प्रबंध समिति के अध्यक्ष प्रमोद सेन ने कहा कि चंडीगढ़ संगीत नाटक अकादमी ने रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर की उत्कृष्ट कृति के सफल संचालन के लिए हर संभव मदद और सहायता प्रदान की है।

‘विसर्जन’ नाटक उन वीरों को समर्पित है, जो उस समय विश्व शांति के हिमायती हैं, जब युद्ध मानव बलि से छिन्न-भिन्न हो रहा हो। प्रेम और अहिंसा के कारण, यह नाटक मानवता के वास्तविक मूल्य का प्रतीक है। रवींद्रनाथ ने बौद्ध धर्म से प्रेरणा लेते हुए इस नाटक को अहिंसा और प्रेम पर आधारित किया है।

नाटक में, राजा गोबिंदमाणिक्य, त्रिपुरा के शांत, प्रेमपूर्ण, कुलीन और ईमानदार राजा हैं। सदियों पुरानी परंपरा के अनुसार, त्रिपुरास्वरी मंदिर में मानव और पशु बलि देने का क्रम था, जिसे धर्म गुरु रघुपति द्वारा नियंत्रित किया जाता था, जिनका राजा से ऊंचा स्थान है। वह एक शक्तिशाली राजपुरोहित हैं और उनका एक दत्तक पुत्र जय सिंह है।

नाटक में परम्पराओं और प्रेम के बीच निरन्तर संघर्ष होता रहता है। अपर्णा नाम की एक बेसहारा लड़की है, जो जय सिंह के पारंपरिक मूल्यों और संक्षिप्तता को सफलतापूर्वक चुनौती देती है।

जब देवी मां काली, एक सपने में, राजा से बलि (मानव / पशु) की प्रथा को रोकने के लिए कहती हैं, तो यह सब परिवर्तन आता है जो राजा को बदल देता है। पशुबलि बंद करने के आदेश को लागू करते हुए, गंभीर आक्रोश उठ खड़ा हुआ, सबसे अधिक रानी गुणवती द्वारा, जो एक पुत्र प्राप्त करने के लिए सैकड़ों जानवरों की बलि देने के लिए तैयार थी।

नाटक का समापन देवी के विसर्जन से होता है। फिर भी, साथ ही, यह मनुष्य में सभी बुरे गुणों को दूर करने और प्रेम, सम्मान, ईमानदारी और अहिंसा को अपनाने का संकेत देता है।

त्याग के कारण ही रघुपति इस सत्य को अनुभव कर सके कि प्रेम हिंसा से मेल नहीं खाता।

अंत में सबको यह महसूस हुआ कि देवी कहीं नहीं है, बल्कि वह हमारे भीतर ही है।

Chandigarh bags First Rank in National Water Award 2022

Chandigarh, May 20:- The Ministry of Jalshakti Department of Water Resources , River Department and Ganga Rejuvenation has adjudicated Municipal Corporation Chandigarh First in the Best Urban Local Body Category of the National Water Award 2022.

While sharing this achievement here today, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that the Government of India, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation has declared the 4th National Water Award in the year 2022.

She said that the Ground Water Augmentation Awards and National Water Awards were launched in the year 2007 with an objective to encourage all stakeholders including the Non-Government Organization, Gram Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies, Water User Associations, Institutions, Corporate Sector, Individuals etc. for adopting innovative practices of ground water augmentation through rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge, promoting water use efficiency, recycling & re-use of water and creating awareness through people’s participation in the targeted areas resulting in the sustainability of ground water resources development, adequate capacity building amongst the stakeholders etc. considering the fact that surface water & ground water are integral part of the water cycle, it was felt necessary to institute unified National Water Awards with the objective of encouraging the stakeholders to adopt holistic approach towards water resources conservation and management in the country.

She further said that the 1st National Water Awards (2018), 2nd National Water Awards (2019) and 3rd National Water Awards (2020) were successfully organized by the department.

She said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh had participated for the first time in the 4th National Water Award in the category of “Best Urban Local Body” for which the cash award of Rs.2 Lakh along with Trophy and citation shall be awarded to the First Rank ULB. Number of Urban Local Bodies across the country has participated for this award. Total 13 number Urban Local Bodies were shortlisted among various participating local bodies under this category.

The Commissioner said that the Ministry sent the team of officers to examine the documents and field inspections i.e various water works, distribution network, T.T.Water network, STPs, Rain water Harvesting Structures, Storm Water Drainage System, Rejuvenated Ponds etc. under Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

She appreciated the good work being done by Engineering Wing of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in the Water Sector and expressed gratitude towards the citizens of city beautiful for their support and efforts to make the city proud.

Mayor lays foundation stone of providing, laying & strengthening SWD system in sector 37-C and 38-C

Chandigarh, May 15:- Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today laid the foundation stone for the commencement of work including providing, laying and strengthening of SWD system with new pipes and road gullies & construction of machine hole chamber at sector 37-C and Sector 38-C, here in the presence of area Councillor Sh. Yogesh Dhingra, other councilors of MCC and prominent persons of ward No. 25.

While addressing the area residents, the Mayor said that this project aims to address the issue comprehensively by providing and laying RCC pipelines with varying diameters and lengths and constructing machine hole chambers and road gully chambers. He said that the implementation of this project aims to ensure that the residents of Ward No. 25 no longer have to suffer from water logging issues during heavy rains.

The Mayor said that the existing storm water drainage system in Sector 37 and 38 was inadequate to handle the amount of rainwater, leading to water logging in the Wool Market area of Sector 38-C. He said that the SWD system was also inadequate for disposal of rain water near Gurudwara Sec-37C, near Sanatan Mandir Sec-38 C, near #901 Sec-38 A, near Valmiki Mandir Sec-38 A, in parking of Jewellery market Sec-37 C and backside of Sanatan Mandir Sec-37C, Chandigarh.

He said that the works in Sector 37-C (Near Gurudwara; Parking of Jewellery Market; Backside of Sanatan Mandir), Sector 38-C (Wool Market; Near Sanatan Mandir) Chandigarh will be completed within six months of time period at a cost of Rs.1.30 crore.

*Chandigarh, May 15*:- Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, on Monday had an interaction with the newly constituted safai karamchari union and its office bearers in a coordination meeting at the MCC.

The meeting was part of an exercise to study the socio-economic, health and hygiene, safety equipments to the safai karamcharis and take stock of grievances or gaps in welfare measures from personal interactions and through representations.

The Commissioner appreciated the Safai Karamcharis for their devotion to duty and contribution in helping the Corporation to upgrade in the Swacchh Bharat Ranking and for maintaining cleanliness in the city.

Applauding the efforts of the Safai Karamcharis, she expressed hope that they will continue the good work and assured that their genuine demands/concerns would be addressed by the Corporation.

She exhorted the Safai Karamcharis present during the meeting to make full use of the welfare schemes such as health and hygiene camps, uniforms, safety kits and health insurance etc. She particularly emphasized on the need for Safai Karamcharis to give good education to their children so that they can lead respectable life.

The Commissioner apprised the office bearers of union about various schemes being run by the Corporation for the welfare of Safai Karamcharis and their children. She said that their demands of appointing children of deceased safaikarmacharis on compassionate grounds will be ensured.

She assured the union that all efforts shall be made make GPF payment on the day of retirement.

It was discussed that health check ups need to be a constant process. 

It was also assured that very soon, Safai booths shall be set up for the convenience of the Safai karamcharis especially the women .

Kirron Kher lays foundation stone of providing and fixing paver blocks in internal streets at village Daria

Chandigarh, May 12:- Keeping in view the overall development of villages, Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, Chandigarh today laid the foundation stone of providing and fixing paver blocks on internal streets and construction of phirni road at village Daria in the presence of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Sh. Kanwarjeet Sing Rana, Senior Deputy Mayor, Smt. Bimla Dubey, area councilor, other councillors and other prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the MP said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is developing the infrastructure and basic amenities in the villages in very fast manner. She said that roads are being repaired and carpeted besides providing and fixing paver blocks in internal narrow streets.

She said that the MCC has also got these villages included in the prestigious 24×7 water supply project of the city so that these villages also get uninterrupted water supply round the clock for which the work is expected to start this year.

The Mayor said that the work of providing and fixing paver blocks has been allotted at the cost of Rs. 33 lacs and construction of phirni road at the cost of Rs. 39 lacs. Recently the work of laying of Sewer and Storm was completed at the cost of Rs 1.98 crores and augmentation of water supply network at the cost of Rs. 1.66 crores.

He further said that the 13 villages were transferred to MCC in the year 2018 and Municipal Corporation has took up the work of laying sewer storm and water supply in these villages at the cost of Rs 50 crores and the works are near completion .The roads will be constructed and repaired at cost of Rs 17 cores in these villages, he added.

MCC to de-link collection of garbage charges on commercial properties from Property Tax bills

Mayor calls meeting of traders/industries associations*

Chandigarh, May 9:- Extending a big relief to the commercial property owners from paying garbage charges annually for the financial year 2023-24, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to de-link the garbage charges from the property tax bill.

This was decided in a meeting held at MCC office premises under the chairmanship of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh attended by Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC and various office bearers of traders/industries associations of Chandigarh and other concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting it was discussed that commercial property owners were facing difficulty to pay the garbage charges annually for the financial year 2023-24, which was linked with the property tax. Keeping in view this as huge burden on their pocket over and above the property tax, the commercial property owners raised this issue that their genuine concern be considered to de-link the garbage charges from the property tax bill for the financial year 2023-24.

The Mayor assured the traders/industries associations to de-link the garbage charges from the property tax bill and take up this issue for detailed discussion and final decision in the ensuing General House meeting with their demand of reducing the garbage charges levied on their properties as well.

It was also decided during the meeting that the MoH office will set up a camp for resolution of all issues related to garbage cess, in the industrial area on 15th and 16th of May.

“Shishu Memorial Lecture” in commemoration of Late Professor Shishu organized by UIPS, PU

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) organized the second ‘Shishu Memorial Lecture’ to commemorate Late Professor Shishu, on 3rd May 2023. Dr Shishu was an alumnus of UIPS (B.Pharm. (1987); M.Pharm.  (1989) and Ph.D (2002) who later joined as Professor of Pharmaceutics at UIPS in the year 1991.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS commenced the event by reminiscencing fond memories of Professor Shishu, in which she highlighted her sincere contribution to the pharmacy profession and revisited her through the lens of her loved ones by sharing the glimpses and messages received from her batchmates, colleagues and students. She beautifully expressed her heartfelt views for Professor Shishu and also gave an overview about the genesis of the endowment fund Shishu Memorial Lecture series created by Late Prof. Darshan Singh, a renowned Punjabi litterateur, a Panjab University faculty and syndic, and father of Professor Shishu. She thanked all the dignitaries, family members and colleagues to have been a part of the event. She also remembered the beautiful soul and appreciated her positive outlook towards life, her dedication towards her profession despite her illness, as known from the commemorations.

Professor Rumina Sethi, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University presided over the event. She very expressively connected her forte with the topic of the lecture.  She very gracefully amalgamated the science and language department keeping in view the NEP 2020.

The invited speaker Professor Mandip Singh Sachdeva, Professor and Section Leader, FAMU College of Pharmacy, Tallahassee, FL, USA delivered the talk on “CARP-1 mimetics in overcoming resistance in lung cancer.” He highlighted the role of lipidic nanoparticles of anti-cancer drugs as therapeutics for treatment of lung cancer. Further in his informative talk, he explained the role of exosomes in tumor progression and biomarker detection. With his vast experience in the field, he elaborated that all the genetic information is contained in exosomes, communicating cells; they can mimic natural delivery systems in humans. He aptly emphasized the significance of the combination of the selected drugs telmisartan (pretreaten) alongwith CFA and Osimertinib. His talk was very informative and illuminating in the field of cancer research.

The lecture was quite enlightening for the budding minds of UIPS and also the most justified tribute to the late faculty.

Professor Poonam Piplani, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, delivered the concluding remarks.

Around 200 participants joined the event and included family members, alumni, students and researchers.

Rahul Kapoor, Joint Secretary-cum-Mission Director DAY NULM/PM SVANidhi appreciated the efforts led by Municipal Corporation Chandigarh under Social Mobilization and Institutional Development (SMID) component of DAY-NULM in convergence with Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) for taking up extensive outreach among urban poor women in developing women based RRR based (Recycle, Reuse and Reduce) social enterprises for their livelihood generation.

The Joint Secretary was in city beautiful to jointly review the progress of Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab under PM SVANidhi scheme of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India at Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh welcomed the Joint Secretary and briefed about the progress done under the DAY-NULM and PM SVANidhi schemes in Chandigarh.

He visited and interacted with various performing and non-performing bank branches along with ULB officials under PM SVANidhi to know the issues faced at ground level while mobilizing beneficiaries, sanctioning and disbursement.

He also interacted with more than 9 SHGs comprising of 90 women at Maloya and Dhanas, which are manufacturing incense sticks, cones, samrani cups, candles, cloth bags, eco-friendly soaps and running NAYA Sa venture in addition to BartanBhandar.

High Powered Committee headed by Adviser to Administrator approves AMRUT projects

All parks in Chandigarh to be irrigated through tertiary treated water

Chandigarh, May 2:- Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh reviewed the future plans under AMRUT scheme in a meeting of State level High Powered Steering Committee (SHPSC) held here today which was attended by Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Govt., Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration and MCC.

During the meeting, various projects under AMRUT were discussed at length including strengthening of tertiary treated water supply system and laying of tertiary treated water lines in left out areas to supply TT water in the city. It was discussed that the city beautiful has a large number of open spaces, parks, gardens and houses with big lawns where water is required for irrigation. At present 680 parks and green belts are irrigated through TT water and after laying of these lines , all 1800 parks will be irrigated through TT water.

The project was discussed in detail, designed to cover the left-out areas of the city by laying of new lines and creation of infrastructure like reservoirs, pumps and electrical systems, especially from Sector 47 to 63, villages recently transferred to MCC and left out pockets of Sectors where network exists. 

The SHPC accorded administrative approval for strengthening TT water supply system in city at an estimated cost of Rs. 9725 lacs from AMRUT 2.0.

During the meeting, strengthening of sewerage network in Chandigarh was also discussed to ease out the excessive sewer load on trunk sewer carrying sewerage of southern sectors, an additional sewer line has been approved to connect trunk sewer of sector 35 with trunk sewer located at sector 44, Chandigarh near village Burail at an estimated cost of Rs. 235 lacs from AMRUT 2.0.

The committee also discussed and approved the upgradation of Kajauli Water works sand rehabilitation of rising main from Kajauli water works to water works at sector 39.

During the meeting it was discussed that in a recent survey of all the phases it has been established that additional components of Phase III and Phase IV also need to be replaced. 

The committee accorded approval for the replacement of machinery in various phases of Kajauli Water Works to the tune of Rs. 2714.99 Lacs from AMRUT 2.0 under Water Supply 24 x 7 component.

MCC honours its workers on Labour Day

Chandigarh, 1st May:- Aiming to spread awareness of labour rights, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh celebrated International Labour day with a large number of workers participating in various programmes across the city, including cultural performances, programmes and meetings etc.

In a programme held at Community Centre sector 27, City Mayor, Sh. Anup Gupta accompanied by area councilor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla with senior officers of MCC said that the MCC has been implementing various development programmes for the welfare of labourers including their regular medical health checkup besides their insurance cover of 40 lacs each case.

The Mayor thanked the labour force for their contribution in building the nation and said that the labourers toil day and night contributing immensely in the progress of the city beautiful. He said that the MCC also renewed the commitment towards the welfare of its workers and to bring prosperity in their lives. He extended his gratitude and appreciation to all the workers of every field.

Similar programme was organized at Open Air Theater, sector 48, where the area councilor Sh. Rajinder Sharma and senior officers of MCC honoured sanitation workers, who play a crucial role in maintaining public hygiene and cleanliness, often working long hours in difficult conditions. In addition to that a cultural programme was organized by the workers of B&R wing, MCC at Community Centre, Sector 8 where their hard work and contributions towards the city was recognized by the senior officers of MCC.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC extended her gratitude towards the hard work of workers and acknowledged the essential role that these workers play in maintaining the city’s roads, parks, street lights, market areas, public places and infrastructure. She thanked for their efforts in keeping the city’s transportation network running smoothly.

She said that the MCC took pride in recognizing the hard work of its employees, especially on International Labour Day. The city recognizes the dedication and commitment of all workers and acknowledges their contribution to the city’s growth and development, she added.
