*Chandigarh, September 16:-* Aiming at raising awareness and promoting the spirit of Swachhata among citizens of city beautiful, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a unique Trash Hunt called “Swacchta Ke Khiladi”.

The Four teams- Blue, Green, Red and Black, symbolizing the four types of waste, were the “Khiladis” .

The “Khiladis” started the Trash Hunt from Sector 19 Community Centre where they solved riddles on Swacchta. Pedalling their way to the Leisure valley, they collected all the scattered waste and found clues which took them to the final destination, the Bird Park.

Once at the Bird Park, they rushed to put together a Swacchta Themed jigsaw puzzle. Finally, the Blue team from PGGC-11 College emerged the winner. 

 The unique activity was flagged off by city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS in the presence of prominent persons of city and all participants at the Community Centre in Sector 19. As a pre-event for the Indian Swachata League – Season 2 Chandigarh Challenger’s-phir se, the Trash Hunt witnessed enthusiastic participation of young individuals passionate about making a difference in their community. 

Mounted on bicycles graciously provided by the Public Bike Sharing Project, the participants embarked on a journey showcasing Chandigarh’s impressive bicycle infrastructure, including well-designed cycle tracks, intersections, and junctions. The Trash Hunt seamlessly blended innovation and Swachhata to inspire and motivate the youth.

While addressing the participants, city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta expressed his enthusiasm for the Trash Hunt event, and said, “I am thrilled to see the overwhelming participation and enthusiasm of our youth in the Trash Hunt. It is heartening to witness the dedication and commitment of our community towards creating a cleaner and healthier Chandigarh. This event not only brings us together but also reminds us of our collective responsibility to maintain a sustainable environment. Let us continue to work together towards a Swachh and Swasth Chandigarh.”

On the occasion Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, highlighted the significance of such initiatives, saying, “The Trash Hunt event is a remarkable endeavor that not only creates awareness but also inspires action for Swachhata. It is essential to instill a sense of responsibility and ownership among our citizens towards maintaining cleanliness in our city.

She said that with the active participation of city youth, who are the torchbearers of change; carry forward the spirit of Swachhata and work towards building a cleaner and greener Chandigarh. Chandigarh- the city beautiful, known for its remarkable efforts in maintaining cleanliness, is all set to defend its title as the defending champions of ISL 1.0 (Indian Swachhata League).”

She said that the MCC takes immense pride in organizing events like the Trash Hunt, engaging the community and teaching the new generation about segregation of waste, and importance of maintaining cleanliness. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in fostering awareness and inspiring individuals to actively contribute to the Swachhata movement.

The Trash Hunt witnessed the active participation of 40 individuals, with each team consisting of 10 members. Team Blue triumphed the competition.

MCC allows contractor to carry 24×7 water supply pilot project in extended hours/night shifts also

Chandigarh, September 13:- Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is committed to provide adequate water supply to the residents of Manimajra at the earliest. Therefore as a Pilot Project under Smart City Mission in Manimajra, the 24×7 water supply work has been allotted to M/s SBE Infrastructure CSCL Pvt. Ltd., Jodhpur, Rajasthan and is in progress.

To complete the work at the earliest the competent authority has allowed the agency to work in extended hours/night shifts also. The public is requested to bear with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for the inconvenience likely to be caused due to the extended hours/night shifts in the interest of the project.

Chandigarh, September 11: – Representing the city of Chandigarh in ISL 2.0, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today unveiled the official logo for the highly anticipated second season of the Indian Swachhata League (ISL 2.0), organized under the banner of “Swachhata Hi Sewa “

The logo, unveiled by city Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, in the presence of other Municipal Corporation senior officers, underscores the Corporation’s commitment to cleanliness and the spirit of the Swachhata Hi Sewa.

While speaking about ISL 2.0, the Mayor said that the logo for Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se, representing the city of Chandigarh in ISL 2.0, embodies the team’s determination and dedication to fostering a cleaner and greener environment. With its bold colors and striking design elements, the logo symbolizes the team’s unwavering spirit and their pledge to bring about positive change through their participation in the Indian Swachhata League.

The Indian Swachhata League 2.0, scheduled to take place from 15th September to 17th 2023, will build upon the success and momentum of its previous season. It aims to engage and empower the youth to actively participate in cleanliness drives and promote the vision of a garbage-free India. The league will bring together teams from various cities, including Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se, to compete, collaborate, and drive change through their collective efforts.

He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “With the launch of the Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se team logo, we embark on a remarkable journey towards a cleaner and healthier Chandigarh. Through ISL 2.0, we aim to ignite a sense of civic responsibility and encourage citizens to actively contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission.”

Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, added, “The MCC is proud to launch Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se and their endeavors towards creating a sustainable and hygienic environment. We believe that the participation in the Indian Swachhata League will inspire citizens to adopt cleaner practices in their everyday lives.”

As the countdown to ISL 2.0 begins, the MCC invites everyone to join hands with the Chandigarh Challenger’s – Phir se team and become agents of change in building a cleaner and greener India.

Additionally, the MCC would like to highlight the upcoming Swachhata Pakhwada, which will commence on 15th September 2023. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) will organize the annual Swachhata Hi Sewa (SHS) fortnight from 15th September to 2nd October 2023, as a prelude to the Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2nd October 2023. This year’s theme for SHS is “Garbage Free India.”

SHS-2023 celebrations will include the following components:

– Fortnight-long cleanliness drives as part of Swachhata Hi Seva

– The second season of the Indian Swachhata League (ISL 2.0) on 15th September 2023 to mobilize youth-led Swachhata activities

– SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivir to ensure the well-being of sanitation workers through various government schemes and health check-ups from 18th to 25th September 2023.

ENACTUS SSBUICET & LEO CLUB join forces for a remarkable cleanliness drive at Dhanas Lake

Enactus team of Panjab University in collaboration with Leo Club Chandigarh Fortune successfully organized a momentous Forest Clean-up Drive at Dhanas Lake today, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, faculty advisor of Enactus team. The event commenced at 7 am and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 30 dedicated members, with 15 representatives from each team, as they came together to celebrate the community spirit during Leo’s Community Week and also to commemorate Forest Martyr’s Day, which hastheme of Forests and Health in 2023,  told Namya, Executive member of Enactus.

The volunteers cleaned up the entire forested area of the Patiala ki Rao Reserved Forest, Chandigarh. The tourists visiting there had littered the forest with chips, plastic wrappers, bottles and other non-biodegradable wastes. The enthusiasts helped clean up the entire area and felt really satisfied after the entire drive.

The cleanliness drive at Dhanas Lake exemplified Enactus commitment to improving the environment and the overall well-being of the local community, said Ashutosh, Marketing Head, Enactus.

The collaboration between Enactus and Leo Chandigarh showcased the power of teamwork and community engagement. By working hand in hand, both organizations demonstrated their shared commitment to creating a cleaner and more vibrant environment for all conveyed Paurush, President Leo Club.

Shubham Dhiman, President of Enactus said that the cleanliness drive at Dhanas Lake was a testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of society. Sector-15/11 UNDERPASS to GET a NEW MAKEOVER

Works of remodeling and beautification of neglected underpass joining Sector-15 and 11 was kick started today in the presence of Area Councillor Saurabh Joshi.
This underpass joining Sector 15 and 11 was the first underpass designed and built by Le Corbusier while carving out the plan of city Chandigarh. Since then this underpass has never been made beautiful. It has been mended and painted but had been devoid of any ornamentation.

But now, a vertical garden will be put up at the entry of the underpass. Also the footpath around it will be thoroughly repaired and painted. Kota stone flooring and glass mosaic tiles will uplift the face of the underpass.

The councillor of the area, Saurabh Joshi said, “this underpass has been frequently used but totally ignored. Every nook and corner of our city should look neat and beautiful, so why ignore this historic underpass !!”
Also, the Book shops of Old Book Market will have new roofs !!
The old and damaged fibre sheets of these shops will be replaced by corrugated G.S sheet roofing. Saurabh Joshi, in his first term as councillor (2011-2016), has gifted this new Old Books Market to the shopkeepers.
The members of Old Book Market Association, Sandeep Kanojia,  Suresh Kumar,Shri Niwas, , Rajesh Rohilla, Sachin Kanojia, Mainudeen, Amarjeet Singh, , Gagandeep Singh, Tejpal Sharma and others thanked Saurabh Joshi for never forgetting about their well being and of their Market.

*Chandigarh, September 8:-* Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh said that today Municipal Corporation sought advance against the 3rd installment of Grant in aid share ie 135 crores.

It is pertinent to mention that the Mayor had met the Hon’ble Administrator UT and sought funds so that the on going developmental works are not hit. While sharing this information here today, the Mayor said that the Administration has assured early release of Rs. 25 crores as advance from its 3rd installment of Grant in aid share of 135 crores.

He further said that, at no cost shall development of the city be stopped and that the Municipal Corporation is committed to serving the people of the city.

Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Professor of Pharmaceutics and Former Chairperson, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University was bestowed upon with the prestigious Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) – Dr. (Mrs.) Manjushree Pal Memorial Award for the Best Pharmaceutical Scientist on 2nd September 2023 at PSIT, Kanpur, to recognise and celebrate her immense contribution of over three decades to Pharmaceutical Sciences. The award was presented by Chief Guest Mr Brajesh Pathak, Deputy CM, UP government and Dr Monty M Patel, President Pharmacy Council of India (PCI); along with Sh. Arun Kumar Pandey Senior Vice President,  Alkem labs; APTI president, Dr. Milind Umekar during the 26th Annual National Convention APTICON 2023.

APTI is an association founded by the pioneers of Pharmacy education in India in 1966 by leading personalities like Prof. M. .L Schroff, Prof. G. P Srivastava and others, which have come a long way in creating better intercommunication and promotion of excellence in pharmacy education. Every year, the outstanding contributions of eminent pharmacists are recognized and conferred APTI Awards during the APTI Annual National/ International Convention and Indian Pharmaceutical Congress held every year.

Professor Kaur is a US-Fulbright fellow (2017-18) & has received National Intellectual Property Award 2021 & 2022 for Top Indian Individual for Patents Filing, Grant & Commercialization; World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Medal for Inventors (2023); Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India, OPPI 2018); Technology Awards (BIRAC Regional Innovation Centre (BRIC) 2019 & 2020, Grand Innovation Challenge by Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (2021); Researcher of the Year award (2019 & 2022), by Sunpure Research Incubation centre.

Recently, US Embassy, USPTO also recognised Professor Kaur UIPS, for her I P value on the World IP Day by putting up a social media post describing the ‘Equation’ that makes her up including the Value Factors that went into her innovations.

Prof. Kaur has received funding for project and Beamtime Application at the ISIS facility – Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK, 2017; 2023. She has transferred four technologies developed in her lab to the Industry. She has been granted fifteen Indian and one US patent out of 31 filed patent applications. Prof. Kaur is consistently listed among 2% top cited global scientists in Pharmacy and Pharmacology category across the globe as per Stanford University, USA, since 2020. *Mayor starts work of strengthening of damaged sewer line backside Sec. 19 SCOs & near market sector 21*

*Chandigarh, September 2:-* Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh today started two projects of strengthening of damaged sewer line at sector 19 and strengthening of sewer network by providing and laying additional sewer line near sector 21 market.

While sharing information about the projects, the Mayor said that numerous complaints were received from residents of sector 19 regarding blockage of sewer line. During inspection it was found that the sewer line backside SCOs got damaged. Now with the provision of new sewerage system, the sewerage will flow smoothly and the area residents will get rid of the sewerage blockage. He said that the work will be completed at estimated cost of Rs. 9.75 lacs within 3 months time period.

The Mayor further informed that the project of providing and laying 300mm pipeline having approximately length of 233 mtr. and construction of 11 machine hole chambers to resolve the blockage problem in the affected area near meat market to Baba dairy, sector 21 will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 11.87 lacs. He said this will not only benefit the shopkeepers but also the visitors from the overflowing sewerage problem.

*Mayor inaugurates toilet blocks at Market in sector 21*

*Chandigarh, September 2:-* City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a toilet block in the Market of Sector 21 here today in the presence of office bearers and members of the area Market welfare Association and Market committee of sector 21.

Renovated at a cost of ₹18.30 lakh in the market, the toilet block has facilities for children and transgender also besides provision of sanitary pads and sanitary incinerator in the ladies toilet blocks for scientific disposal of sanitary pads.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said all toilet blocks in markets and parks were Geotagged and could be located through Google Maps. He said that QR codes have been provided at each block and can be scanned to report any problem, such as sewerage blockage, water leakage and missing taps.

The Mayor said under the Swachh Bharat Mission and following the parameters of Water Plus, all the old toilet blocks are being revamped by adding more facilities and modern plumbing accessories.
