*Chandigarh, July 2:-* Taking serious note of non-compliance in marking attendance through the Aadhar-based Biometric Attendance System, the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has ordered the concerned DDOs to release salaries of all employeesas per biometric attendance. This decision is aimed at identifying and eliminating ghost employees and ensuring accountability among the workforce.

Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the Commissioner emphasized that strict adherence to the biometric attendance system is mandatory, with no relaxation granted to any employee who fails to comply with the established norms. The biometric system has already been integrated with the salary disbursement process, linking attendance data directly to employee remuneration.

In a move to further tighten administrative oversight, the Commissioner has instructed the Accounts Branch to compile and submit detailed information on each employee. This includes the exact monthly salary, allowances, or any other payments being drawn from the MCC. The intent is to establish transparency in financial transactions and verify that only genuine, active employees are on the payroll.

The Commissioner reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to improving administrative efficiency and eliminating irregularities in the system. He stated that all employees are expected to maintain regular attendance and ensure their Aadhar-based registration is active and operational, as it directly impacts their salary release.

With this directive, the MCC aims to uphold discipline, enhance transparency, and ensure that public funds are being utilized responsibly. All departments have been instructed to comply with the order in letter and spirit.

*Chandigarh, July 1:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh carried out a major anti-encroachment drive today in Sector 22. The operation focused on the outer mobile market, Shastri Market (22D), and the area near Kiran Cinema.

Following the directions of Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the enforcement team carried out the drive and issued 52 challans to violators during the drive. Illegal vendors occupying public corridors were removed to ensure free and safe pedestrian movement. The drive aimed to reclaim public spaces and maintain order in the market areas.

*Chandigarh, June 28:-* In view of the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department indicating possible rainfall and storm conditions in the coming days, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has issued a precautionary advisory for all residents and visitors of the city.

While speaking about the advisory, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, MC Commissioner said here today that to ensure public safety and prevent damage to life and property, the following guidelines are hereby issued:

• Avoid parking vehicles under heavy, overgrown, or old trees during adverse weather conditions.

• Refrain from standing or taking shelter under trees, particularly those that appear aged or structurally weak, during rain or strong winds.

• Limit travel and pedestrian movement along tree-lined roads during heavy rain or stormy conditions, unless absolutely necessary.

• Do not touch electric poles, streetlights, or park light fixtures as these may pose serious risks of electrocution during or after rainfall.

• Maintain a safe distance from both trees and electrical installations throughout the period of inclement weather.

*Chandigarh, June 28:-* In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS called a review  meeting of 18 special flood control teams here today. The MCC has also operationalized 7 flood/water-logging control rooms across the city.

These arrangements will be in force from June 20 to September 30, 2025, to ensure swift response and redressal of water-logging and rain-related emergencies.

Each control room will function 24×7 with designated teams working in three shifts. Citizens can lodge complaints regarding water-logging through the dedicated control room phone numbers.

Each control room has dedicated field teams including Field Managers (FM), Multi-Task Workers (MTW), and Public Health officials. The Public Health Officer will serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) in each control room, coordinating across departments.

Special Measures and Department Roles:

• 18 emergency response teams comprising officials from Public Health, B&R, Horticulture, MOH, Electrical, and Fire Department have been stationed in key sectors of the city.

• 5 water tankers with drivers will be available round-the-clock.

• Fire department personnel trained in disaster management will be stationed strategically for emergency handling.

• Barricading at collapse sites will be handled by the B&R wing.

• No casual or earned leave will be granted to staff during the monsoon period.

• All departments have been instructed to ensure immediate emergency response and provide necessary manpower from their current strength.

• Two enforcement vehicles will be provided at each control room for mobility.

The Municipal Corporation urges citizens to cooperate during monsoons and report water-logging issues promptly using the dedicated numbers for swift redressal.

*Chandigarh, June 23:-* As part of the ongoing intensive cleanliness and enforcement campaign, Joint Commissioner Sh. Himanshu Gupta, along with the Medical Officer of Health team, conducted a thorough inspection of the peripheral areas of Sectors 52 and 53, Chandigarh. The visit aimed to assess sanitation conditions and reinforce cleanliness standards in the region.

Following the directions of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, a joint enforcement and MOH team conducted a raid in Sector 52 & 53, during which, multiple challans were issued to kabadiwalas for non-compliance with municipal norms.

Simultaneously, the Enforcement Wing undertook encroachment removal operations in ward No. 31, Sector 52, under the supervision of the Health Supervisor. The drive was carried out in the presence of Chief Sanitary Inspectors and the inspectorate staff. Two challans were also issued for littering by offenders found violating public hygiene norms.

*MCC Finance & Contract Committee meeting held*

*Chandigarh, June 23:-* The 353rd meeting of the Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairpersonship of city Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla. The meeting was attended by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner and other members of the Committee namely Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh, Smt. Suman devi and Senior officers of the Corporation.

During the meeting, the Committee approved the agenda item regarding the booking of Housing Board Ground, Manimajra (Dussehra Ground) for organizing a commercial event.

The agenda was placed in light of two applications received:

• Sh. Alankeshwar Bhaskar, Apex International Deals in Event Management, Panchkula – submitted a request dated 28.05.2025 for booking the Dussehra Ground, Manimajra from 28th July to 24th August 2025 (28 days) for a commercial event.

• Sh. Sunny, FAIRDEAL, Zirakpur – submitted a request dated 03.06.2025 for booking the same ground from 2nd August to 17th August 2025 for an exhibition-cum-sale of consumer products, food stalls, amusement park, and circus.

As per prevailing practice, in absence of finalized policy guidelines, the bookings of commercial grounds are being processed on a “First Come, First Serve” basis. Since Sh. Alankeshwar Bhaskar’s application was received prior to the other applicant, the Committee approved the booking in his favor.

Accordingly, the F&CC approved the booking of the Housing Board Ground, Manimajra from 28th July to 24th August 2025 for (28 days) to Sh. Alankeshwar Bhaskar, Apex International, on payment basis as per applicable rates and conditions.

The Committee also noted that the policy guidelines and terms & conditions for the booking of commercial grounds such as Housing Board Ground, Manimajra, and Circus Ground, Sector-17, are under finalization by a committee of councillors. 

Until such guidelines are finalized, the current process based on First Come, First Serve shall remain in force.

*Chandigarh, June 21:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in Sector 26 (Transport Area) and Sector 34 (Furniture Market) today.

Following the directions of Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, enforcement teams carried out encroachment drive in Sector 26, 30 and illegal juggies and temporary structures were removed, along with eight three-wheelers. Rehris found outside the designated vending zones were also cleared. Simultaneously, in Sector 34, 25 challans were issued to shopkeepers for corridor encroachments.

A total of 85 challans were issued during the drive in both sectors. The action aimed to ensure public convenience, safety, and to maintain the city’s aesthetic appeal.

Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reiterates its commitment to keeping the city clean, organized, and encroachment-free. Regular drives will continue in various sectors to discourage illegal occupation of public spaces.
