PUCET-PG Entrance Test – 2019

Chandigarh 8.6.2019-

Panjab University, Chandigarh conducted first phase of the PU CET (PG)
Entrance Test – 2019 on 8.6.2019 (Saturday) for admission to the following
courses. Total 07 centres were created, four at the Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh and one each at Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Muktsar. The detailed percentage of the candidates appeared in this entrance test.

Total 87.51% candidates appeared in the first phase of the test. Flying squad
and observers were sent to every centre for routine checking and smooth
conduct of the test. Prof. Karamjit Singh, Registrar, Prof. Shankarji Jha, DUI and Prof. Parvinder Singh, COE also visited the examination centres. The test was conducted satisfactorily and no untoward incident was reported from any of the examination centres.

University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management, PU in association with Chef Association of India organised an informative session on Food safety and security.

On the Occasion of World Food Safety Day. University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management, Panjab University in association with Chef Association of India organised an informative session on Food safety and security.

Dr. Prashant Gautam, Chef Jaswinder Singh, Chef Sunil Arya and Chef Shahjahan  etc were present to sensitise about the importance of food safety in day to day life and gave a joint statement.

On this Occasion speakers said ” It is really a great initiative by United Nations General assembly to celebrate first ever ‘World food safety day” on 7June 2019. Food which is the basic need of every human being on the planet is something which becomes a part of body once consumed. 

We can not take lightly this aspect of food. Right from farm till it is served on the plate food travels in different hands. So we have HACCP and FSSAI to guide us on this here in India. But still there is a big  scope of improvement and acceptability. We are glad in this era people are becoming more aware and consious about their diet and health which is a good sign. We hope to see a drastic change in the near future. We congratulate everyone present and Wish a Very Happy And Healthy World food safety day.

Plantation drive at Girls Hostel -1, PU

Chandigarh June 7, 2019  

Residents and Staff of Mata Gujri Hall, Girls Hostel No.1, Panjab University, 
Chandigarh organized plantation drive with full zeal and enthusiasm under the leadership of Prof Neena Kaplash, DSW (W) and Prof. Emanuel Nahar (DSW). Plantation drive was jointly organized by Horticulture department and girls Hostel no 1. Plants like neem, amla, litchi, hibicus, mango, jammun etc. were planted in and around hostel premises.


 Staff and residents adopted the plants and promised to take care of them till they become self-sustainable. Sh. Aman Singla JE, and other staff of Horticulture, Dr. Suman Mor, Dr. Kamla, Warden GH2, Dr. Parveen, Warden BH 5 also joined the drive. Prof Neena Kaplash stated that such kind of drive are needed to keep environment green and clean. Prof Emanual Nahar appreciated the joint efforts of horticulture division and hostels. Dr Suman Mor stated that this year world environment day theme is Beat air 
pollution  and collective efforts are needed to improve air quality by taking small steps. She stated that planting of the medicinal plant will also help to purify the air and controlling air pollution while fruit bearing plants will also provide niche to various birds as well.

Common Entrance Test – 2019

Chandigarh June 7, 2019 

About 14,200 candidates will appear in the Common Entrance Test – 2019 being conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh for admission to Postgraduate courses on 8th June (Saturday) and 9th June (Sunday), 2019
 The  test will be held from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.For 8.6.2019,  seven examination centres have been created, four centres at Panjab University Campus, Sector 14 and three centres in Punjab i.e. one each at Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Sri Muktsar Sahib.


        For 9.6.2019, fifteen centres have been  created, eleven centres at Panjab University Campus, Sector 14 and four centres in Punjab i.e. one each at Hoshiarpur and Sri Muktsar Sahib and two at Ludhiana.

Lecture on teachings of Guru Arjun Dev Ji at PU

Chandigarh June 7, 2019 

School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an Extension Lecture on the occasion of martyrdom day of Guru Arjun Dev Ji, here today. Dr Karamjit Singh, Registrar, Panjab University was the speaker who enlightened the importance of the day and the need behind the commemoration of Guru Arjun Dev Ji in academic corridors.  

He described the life, teachings, sacrifice of the martyr and stressed on the major work done by the Guru, the compilation of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Prof. Singh also told how Guru Arjun served the humanity through his principles i.e spiritual faith and it being the real source of quality living. 

Earlier, Prof. Yograj Angrish, Chairperson of the Department introduced the resource person to the audience. 

Prof. Emanual Nahar DSW delivered the vote of thanks on the behalf of School of Punjabi Studies. 

The lecture was attended by all the students, scholars and staff.

Workshop on Biorisk concludes at PU

Chandigarh June 7, 2019  

Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh  organised the 11th five days workshop from 3rd to 7th June on “Fundamentals of Biorisk Management” in  collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories with support from the U.S Department of States which concluded, here today. 

According to Prof. Neena Capalash, workshop organizer, the main purpose of the workshop was to enable the participants to understand laboratory biosafety and biosecurity issues associated with pathogens and other biological materials used in the research laboratories and clinical set ups. 

During the five days the participants were oriented to the subject of risks associated while working with disease causing bacteria specially the drug resistant pathogens which need to be handled with care and have to be disposed off carefully to reduce the risk of spreading them into the environment. Use of personnel protection equipment, biohazardous waste disposal and incident management was also covered. 

This type of workshops are very important when multiple drug resistance in pathogens have become a major challenge to control microbial infections. Trained faculty and researchers would act as ambassadors of this cause to further create awareness at their institutions to reduce occupational hazards.The workshop was attended by faculty from Panjab University, local collages and the research scholars working in the area of biological Sciences. Microbiologists from medical colleges from Aurangabad, Karnataka and faculty from Rajasthan and Jammu 
universities also participated in the workshop.

Abdul Kalam Computer Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh to complete their forms upto 12th June 2019 June 2019 till  4:00 P.M.  The candidates should bring scanned photograph alongwith signature in Pen 
Drive alongwith a fine of Rs. 500/-. No further communication in this regard will be entertained thereafter.

World Environment Day was observed with full enthusiasm in hostel premises of PU,Chandigarh.

Chandigarh June 6, 2019  


World Environment Day was observed with full enthusiasm in hostel premises of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The aim of observing this day was to advocate the relationship between environment and human being.  A plantation drive was started today which would continue for the next few days, covering all hostels of Panjab University. 


        Residents and staff of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel (Boys Hostel no. 4), Laxmi Bai Hall (Girls Hostel no. 2) and Sarojini Hall (Girls Hostel no. 3) planted saplings, some of which were donated by horticulture department for plantation. DSWs Prof. Emanual Nahar and Prof. Neena Capilash were present along with the wardens of girl’s and boy’s hostel. 


Prof. Nahar said that the message of the day is that Trees are the only Gift to pass on to the Future Generations. Prof. Emanual Nahar, DSW gave ‘Appreciation Certificate’ to Raj Devinder Singh for his zeal and enthusiasm towards plantation throughout the year. They also planted and 
adopted the plants with hostel residents.
