Prof Raj Kumar Vice Chancellor Panjab University released the book titled “Literary Resonances in the Corridors of Law” authored by Dr Chanchal Narang, Associate Professor, University Institute of legal Studies, PU Chandigarh in the presence of Prof. R.K. Singla, Dean Research, Prof Rajinder Kaur and Dr Sasha.
Dr Narang’s book is based on the Action Research Project that she had undertaken based on the topic, “The Impact of Teaching literature in an interactive manner on law Students’ ability to interpret literary texts.” Dr Narang had taken up this project to train the students of Law in the micro-skills of reading, which are very crucial in the legal profession. She had taken up this project in accordance with the mandate of Bar Council of India which states that “The best way to learn English is to read more and more English literature.” She had taught the students Indian literature in English so as to enable them to do the close reading of texts which would further enhance their faculties of sympathy and empathy which are essential in the legal profession.
Prof. Kumar appreciated the efforts of Dr Narang for her efforts and encouraged her to continue her academic work in the field of Language pedagogy. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Narang is the founder teacher of UILS and has contributed two books and around 20 research papers in the field of English language Teaching in the Journals of national and International repute.

The University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised the Induction Program for the MBA/MBA(Entrepreneurship)/MBA(IB)/MBA(HR)-Ist Year students on 08.07.2019 at 1130 AM in the Auditorium, Arts Block-II, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh presided over the event, Shri Ashish Kumar Chauhan, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Mumbai was the Chief Guest. Professor Deepak Kapur welcomed the distinguished guests, faculty, staff and students and presented the mementos to the distinguished guests. He informed the audience that in the 51st year of the commencement of the MBA program at the UBS, a new program with the nomenclature MBA(Entrepreneurship) has been started. Professor Deepak Kapur also introduced the Chief Guest Mr Ashish K Chauhan to the audience. Thereafter, Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh addressed the audience. He stressed the importance of Entrepreneurship. Thereafter, Mr Ashish Chauhan delivered his address. He stated that unlike the earlier times when technology changed in one or two generations, in the present day technological change comes in waves, and these technological waves are becoming faster and faster. He stated that the next 50 years would see the wealth creation that has not been seen ever during the last 10,000 years. He was optimistic that with majority of the Indian population comprising of the younger age group, the next few decades would see the emergence of India as an economic power house. he predicted that if everything goes well, next 50 years would see India become an 100 trillion dollar economy, comprising of about 15% of the world’s GDP of estimated 720 trillion dollars.Mr Chauhan delineated the developments in the Indian economy since independence in 1947, and gave reasons as to why the People’s Republic of China that was even slightly behind India in terms of per capita GDP in 1978, has not only overtaken Indian during the last four decades but has progressed to an extent that has resulted in a per capita GDP lead of China by over about six times over that of the per capita GDP of India.

Professor Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instruction (DUI) was the Chief Guest, and Shri S.S.Virdhi, Chief Engineer (Retd.) was the Guest of Honor. Professor Deepak Kapur welcomed the distinguished guest and presented them the flower bouquets. He exhorted the newly admitted students to work very hard, and leave no stone unturned to excel in academics. Professor Shankarji Jha quoted extensively from the ancient Indian sanskrit literature including that from the Mahabharta to motivate the audience. The event was well attended by the Faculty and students of UBS.
