*Chandigarh, April 14:-* To mark the Fire Services Day, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on Sunday organized a programme at Fire Station, Sector 17, Chandigarh. This year Fire Service Week will be organized from 14th to 20th April, 2024 under the theme “Ensure Fire Safety, Contribute towards Nation Building”.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Mrs. Isha Kamboj, Joint Commissioner-cum- Chief Fire Officer and other Fire officers laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Column, in Fire Station, Sector 17 and paid homage to fire brigade jawans. A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of all those firemen in the country who lost their lives while on duty.

In her speech, the Commissioner applauded the bravery of Fire personnel during the crisis. She appreciated the Fire department’s work during major fire incidents in the past. She applauded the firemen for distinguished and meritorious services for their work during their duties.

She said that a special campaign on fire safety would be organized in the city schools and to give more emphasis on fire safety mass awareness activities by conducting fire safety drills in the schools. The salient features like evacuation drills, implementation of fire safety order do & don’t in case of natural and manmade disaster and how to use fire extinguisher etc. would be incorporated in the Fire safety drills.

The Commissioner appealed all the citizens of Chandigarh to join hands during the fire safety awareness programme to be conducted in various parts of the city from April 14th to 20th, 2024 (to mark fire service week). She said that every citizen should know about the operation of fire fighting extinguishers. She also appealed to the city residents to adopt safe housekeeping & approved electrical appliances in their houses and work places.

She said that the importance of organizing such functions to recognize the duties rendered by firemen during fire incidents and to create awareness among the masses regarding fire safety measures.

The Commissioner said that we should not limited to one week’s awareness function but it should be regular exercise throughout the year to create awareness and mock drill programmes. She instructed the concerned staff for preparing proper inventory of items required throughout the year for maintenance purposes.

In addition to that commendation certificates were awarded to the firemen with appreciation certificates for the duties performed, which was occasional for intermittent in character & either so laborious during fire-fighting & rescue operations including Sh. The Fire Services Day has been observed throughout the country since 1944, the year when more than 500 persons including 66 Fire Brigade personnel lost their lives in a major fire in Mumbai. Fire brigade officials said that in 1944, a huge consignment of arms and ammunition kept at the Mumbai dockyard caught fire. The arms and ammunition was meant to be used against Japan by the British, who then ruled over India. Over 500 persons lost their lives in the fire. 66 Fire brigade personnel, who valiantly fought the fire, also lost their lives. Since then, April 14 has been observed as Fire Services Day.

Cleanliness and Plantation Drive on the occasion of Baisakhi

NSS Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Cleanliness and Plantation Drive today at Student Centre and AC Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh on the occasion of Baisakhi under the leadership of Dr. Parveen Goyal, Programme Coordinator, NSS. Dr. Debabrata Das , Assistant Professor, Department of Geology also participated in the drive.

Around 50 NSS Volunteers and students of Panjab University showed lot of interest and enthusiasm in the cleanliness and Plantation drive. Oriental Arborvitae was planted under this drive.

‘Meet and Greet’ event for PU international students on Baisakhi

Office of the Dean, International Students (DIS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized ‘Meet and Greet’ event (followed by Dinner) for International Students of PU on the eve of Baisakhi Festival. More than 50 students belonging to various countries suchas Mauritius, Nepal, Afghanistan and African countries attended the event.

Prof.Kewal Krishan, Dean International Students, welcomed the students and shared to facilitate admission of international students to PU.The students were apprised of modified admission guidelines for international students. As per the revised guidelines, the requirement of appearing in the Entrance Test is withdrawn from the academic session 2024-25 to facilitate admission in various Undergraduate/Postgraduate courses offered by the Panjab University. He also shared that the present fee structure is also revised for foreign national students of SAARC countries and underdeveloped countries for direct admission to PU. The proposal of offering hostel accommodation at reduced rate to such students is also in process. 

Suggestions were sought from the students that how DIS office can help them to resolve their issues and problems in future. The students also appreciated the gesture of organizing such an event for the very first time for Foreign National students and listening to their problems.

Prof.Latika Sharma, Dean, Alumni Relations also interacted with the students and advised them to register as PU Alumnus after completion of their studies. Dr. Surinder Singh Bhinder, Professor Ajay Mittal and Dr. Vishal Sharma also attended the event.

Chandigarh, April 10:- Due to urgent power supply work of 66 KV line from Kharar to Morinda, a shut down has been allowed by the competent authority on 12.04.2024. During this shutdown, there will be no pumping of raw water from Water Works Kajauli to Water Works Sector 39, Chandigarh through Phase I to VI from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM on dated 12.04.2024. Accordingly, the schedule of water supply timing in the whole the City Chandigarh will be as under:

The 2 day International Conference on Catalysis for Clean Energy Technologies and Sustainable Development came to a triumphant close today, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of innovative solutions for a sustainable future. Hosted by by Dr. SSB UICET in collaboration with Catalysis Society of India and Reliance Industries Ltd., the conference brought together more than 250 eminent scholars, researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers from around the globe to exchange ideas, share insights, and foster collaborations in the field of catalysis. With a focus on leveraging catalytic processes for advancing clean energy initiatives and promoting sustainability, the conference fostered insightful discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaborative endeavors aimed at addressing pressing issues faced by us today.

The valedictory ceremony began with welcome address by Prof. Anupama Sharma, Conference Chair and Chairperson, Dr. SSBUICET. The report of the two day confluence was presented by Prof. Sushil Kansal, Organising secretary, CCETSD-2024.

The valedictory ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Bhola Ram Gurjar, Director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh as the Chief Guest. Prof. Gurjar, a distinguished authority in the realm of leading academicians and researchers who have worked extensively in the domain of urban emissions, air quality, health risk assessment, climate change and environmental sustainability, delivered an enlightening address, emphasizing the pivotal role of catalysis in advancing sustainability efforts worldwide. Prof. Gurjar in his address said that catalysis plays a pivotal role in advancing environmental sustainability by enabling cleaner production processes, enhancing energy efficiency, facilitating renewable energy conversion, and promoting circular economy principles. Extension of last date of Fresh Admission & Re-Registration up to 31st March, 2024

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for online admission to all Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma (except certificate, semester based and merit based programmes) and online Re-registration (RR) of all Masters and Bachelors for the session January, 2024 session till 31st March, 2024. Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Senior Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Center Chandigarh informed that interested applicants can apply through online link for admission to any Masters, Bachelors, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programmes of their choice: https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/ which is available on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in.

SC/ST students will be admitted without charging any fee in some of the Diploma/PG Diploma & Graduate Programmes and they will have to apply online and to upload all necessary documents for fee exemption. Panjab University contingent won accolades in National Youth Festival

The contingent of Panjab University bagged first position in One Act Play, Mime, Clay Modeling & Cartooning along with third position in Instrumental Music     (Non-percussion).

Students joined from public administration, UILS, Political science, English, zoology, sociology, Police administration, Defence studies, Hindi, history etc. to listen to the inspiring personality who gave excellent tips to lead a self-discipline student life to be successful in life.

Prof. Latika Sharma Dean Alumni Relations welcomed Dr. Kiran Bedi with Prof. Pam Rajput and DSW Prof. Simrat Kahlon. Dr Bedi’s love for sports and eagerness to learn and be on the move made her student days activity packed in which she secured two scholarships for academics and sports . She told students not to give in to distractions of social media , do those great  things which people would like to see for inspiration.She emphasised on optimum utilization of time in younger days to engage in sports and studies. She told the students  to build self-respect, learn to work with hands, lead ethical life, focus on goals to attain success which comes through good habits. Student can gain confidence by doing their own SWOT analysis to keep improving their self awareness for building good habits. She encouraged students to develop reading habits and engage in sports and physical activities. She asked the students their expectations and prompted them to articulate their goals for behavioral transformation. It was a highly interactive session which evoked a sense of commitment for self-development among the students. The replies of the students were recorded on the spot and many students responded. Dr. Bedi responded to all queries with high energy and enthusiasm making it a very enjoyable session for the students. This is beginning of a series of Alumni Connect interactive sessions to provide Alumni mentorship to students of PU.

Department of Indian Theatre celebrated World Theatre Day

The Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University Chandigarh celebrated the World Theatre Day on 27th March 2024. The celebrations were started on 17th March 2024 with a National Seminar on “Theatre: Indispensable in the Digital age”. After that the Department has organised a Study Tour to Gaiety Theatre and Indian Institute of advanced Study, Shimla. Students have also showcased their in-house productions. Today the celebrations were culminated with the Research Paper presentations by the students of MA-I & II, on the topics related to their upcoming Annual Production.

Sh. Abhishek Sharma, Director of The Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh, Dr. Chander Shekhar Prasad and Mr. Emmanuel (all Alumni of the Department) and Mr Aman Kumar were present.

While delivering the welcome address, Dr. Navdeep Kaur said that we should celebrate Theatre every moment. She paid her gratitude to each and every Theatre person associated with the department so far. She also shared her views on the importance of Theatre. All the dignitaries appreciated this effort of the Department. On this occasion Three students Ms. Sanya, Mr. Gurpreet Singh Garcha and Sh. Parvinder Singh were given S. चंडीगढ़, 21 मार्च (   )- दुनिया भर के भक्तों की सेवा के लिए करुणा और समर्पण की भावना से निहंग बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर और वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता विनीत जोशी ने अयोध्या राममंदिर में बीते दो माह से निरंतर जारी लंगर सेवा के लिए चंडीगढ़ से एक बार फिर लाखों की कीमत से अधिक किराने का सामान (लंगर के लिए भोजन और अन्य सामान)  के ट्रक रवाना किए । यह उल्लेखनीय है कि बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर अगुवाई 1885 में बाबरी ढांचे पर कब्जा कर हवन करने वाले निहंग बाबा फ़क़ीर सिंह के आठवें वंशज हैं। निहंग बाबा फकीर सिंह खालसा की भगवान राम के प्रति भक्ति और दुनिया भर से आने वाले भक्तों की सेवा के लिए निहंग बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर ने बीती 14 जनवरी से अयोध्या के प्रमोदवन क्षेत्र में श्री चार धाम मंदिर में दुनिया भर से आने वाले भक्तों के लिए लंगर की व्यवस्था शुरू की थी।

सेक्टर 26 में चंडीगढ़ के अनाज मंडी से बीती रात किराना ट्रकों को अयोध्या भेजते समय निहंग बाबा हरजीत सिंह रसूलपुर ने कहा कि देश विदेश से अयोध्या राममंदिर दर्शन हेतु पहुंच रहे श्रद्धालुओं के लिए 24 घंटे निरंतर लंगर सेवा जारी रखने के लिए ही चंडीगढ़ से एक बार फिर किराने का सामान अयोध्या भेजा गया है। मानवता के सेवक के रूप में, यह सुनिश्चित करना मेरा कर्तव्य है कि कोई भी भूखा न रहे, खासकर भक्ति और उत्सव के समय में। हमारे सिख गुरुओं द्वारा शुरू किया गया लंगर समानता और भाईचारे का प्रतीक है और यह जरूरी है कि हम इसके मूल्यों को कायम रखें।

इस अवसर पर बोलते हुए वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता विनीत जोशी ने कहा कि 14 जनवरी को शुरू की गई लंगर सेवा अभी भी उन भक्तों की सेवा कर रही है जो भगवान राम के दर्शन करने के लिए अयोध्या पहुंच रहे हैं। रसूलपुर न केवल उनके पूर्वजों का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे हैं, बल्कि पूरे पंजाब और पंजाबियत का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे हैं।
