Commissioner directs engineers to repair booths in Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh, September 12:- Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh today directed the concerned engineers of MCC to get the repair work done immediately at booths in vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran.

During the Thursday field level visit, the Commissioner visited ward No.24 alongwith Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, area councilor, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Sh. Shailender Singh, Superintending Engineer, Public Health other and concerned officers of MCC.

The team visited Thada Market and the commissioner directed the chief engineer to complete the work in a fast manner. They also visited Mauli complex, Railway colony and other parts of Vikas Nagar. The team visited the site of new park and green belt. The Commissioner directed the concerned officers to repair footpath areas wherever required and repair roads with providing pavers in the narrow streets. They also visited the area Vikas Nagar part-II for development.

The Commissioner directed the enforcement inspectors to remove encroachments from public places and instructed sanitation inspectors to challan the violators for littering and check these with regard to health and hygiene.

House Tax Assessment committee meeting held

Chandigarh, September 12: – A meeting of House Tax Assessment Committee of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh held under the chairmanship of Sh. Ajay Dutta, and attended by Smt. Kamla Sharma, Smt. Asha Kumari Jaswal, Smt. Heera Negi, Sh.Gurpreet Singh, Sh. Anil Kumar Garg, Additional Commissioner and concerned officers of  Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

During the meeting the committee approved the following agendas:

1.     Exemption of Property Tax on residential Lands/Buildings- Defence Personnel.

2.     Waive off interest for the period for 22.11.2004 -31.03.2006 in respect of temporary shed area in Industrial Area phase I and II.

3.     Exemption of property tax in respect of Shri Mahavir Mandir Muni Sabha (Regd.), Muni Ji Mandir, Sector 23-B, Chandigarh PID 130166, the committee recommended the agenda item for General House.

Workshop on Plastic Tide Turner Challenge at UILS, PU

Chandigarh September 12, 2019

 A One Day Workshop on “Plastic Tide Turner Challenge” in partnership with WWF-India & UN Environment was organised in University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, here today by Department of Community Education & Disability Studies, PU, Chandigarh in collaboration with State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), U.T. Chandigarh & the Legal Aid Society, UILS, PU.

   The workshop was aimed on the cutting on our use of single-use disposable plastic also talked about the negative and disastrous effects of use of plastic in the long run.

 The workshop was inaugurated by the tremendous speeches given by the Chief Guests Shri Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration; Shri Mahavir Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge and Member Secretary, SLSA, Chandigarh; Dr. Dazy Zarabi, Chairperson, Department of Community Education and
Disability Studies, PU; and Shri Pramod Sharma, Founder Coordinator YUVSATTA.

 It witnessed a great zeal of participation of nearly 200 students who were being mentored by Ms. Ambreen Khan, manager, WWF. The students were also made aware of the correct way of disposing the single-use plastic. Overall it was an enriching and fruitful experience for the students.

Last date to submit applications at USOL extended

Special Lecture on Creating respectful Workplaces for women at PU

Chandigarh September 12, 2019

 Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a special Lecture on ” Creating respectful Workplaces for women”. Dr Rani Mehta, Chairperson, introduced the key speaker Ms.
Merri Hanson, Director of Peninsula Mediation, who is a conflict resolution  consultant for various federal agencies such as Navy, Homeland Security, NASA, Department of Justice in USA. She focused on various best practices required for creating a conducive working environment for women. She was accompanied by Ms. Catherine Fischer, Public Diplomacy Officer, U.S Embassy and Ms Ayesha Gideon from The American Centre, New Delhi. The lecture was very informative and thought provoking for the audience which included faculty members and students of the department.

BioNEST-Panjab University Start-up gets Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development Fund (SEED) FUND of 30 lakhs

Chandigarh: 

With the sole intent to support young scientists/ideas/entrepreneurs, Panjab University has been promoting translation research and bio-entrepreneurship for over a decade. Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) sanctioned establishment of Bio-incubators Nurturing Entrepreneurship for Scaling Technologies (BioNEST) that is primarily hosting the entrepreneurs in the North of India and assist the struggling innovators to help them make their ideas visible to the society.

        Dr. Rohit Sharma, is the Project leader of BioNEST at Panjab University (BN- PU). The BioNEST is providing a strong incubation support to all the new enterprises in North India. It is providing innovative technology and capacity building platform/s. Demonstrating the role entrepreneurship in an academic system and provide a new direction to research is what is an integral component of BioNEST’s motto.

        One of the start-ups namely MicroFoods Pvt. Ltd started in 2016 by Prabhjot Singh Khanna a Microbiologist from PAU, Ludhiana. After doing masters research work on vinegar fermentation and having a 2 years of industrial experience in fermentation department he started a boot strapped start up with manufacturing of Apple cider vinegar.

Starting the company from a small room in 2016 today MicroFoods Pvt. Ltd had renowned market name after starting Gluten free Multigrain Flour with brand name Gluten Go.
       

Recently MicroFoods has been selected for second stage by BIRAC SEED Fund grant in association with Foundation of Innovation and and Technology Transfer (FITT, IIT Delhi with award price of Rs. 30Lac for setting of scale-up facility.

Before this MicroFoods Pvt. Ltd. has also won Rs. 30Lac grant under SAEN-BIRAC programme in association BioNEST-PU, Chandigarh for designing of reactor for vinegar fermentation. Presently Micro Foods Pvt. Ltd is incubatee in BioNEST-PU for its R&D projects and have further increased its strength for innovation of new products under the facility available.
       

Seeing the future potential of the market MicroFoods is planning to launch basket of gluten free products with high fibre content which is main requirement for present society. As presently we are selling our products in Punjab with help of this grant MicroFoods will able to increase its production capacity and take its marketing to Pan India level. “The target of the Incubation space is to help the start-up generate funding from different sources and not only start-up fund but also stage two and follow up funds so that the product/s reach the market/society, which is the prime focus of such programmes” said Dr. Rohit Sharma, Project Leader BioNEST-PU.

Essay Competition on the topic ‘Hindi mey Dil, Dil mey Hindi’ held as a part of Hindi Month celebrations

Chandigarh:

Dept of Hindi today organized a essay writing competition as a part of series of activities planned by the Department on the occasion of Hindi month. The topic for essay writing competition was’Hindi mey Dil, Dil mey Hindi’. Twenty Students from different Departments of the University and city colleges participated in the event. These included PGGC-11, MCM-DAV-36, GCM-11. The next activity
‘Har Chitr Kuch Kehta Hai’ planned as a part of the celebration will be held on 16th September. Dr Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Dept of Hindi informed that the winners will be felicitated on the closing ceremony function to be held on 28th September. He also informed that the next activity, a movie screening of the film English Vinglish will be held on 13th September and a Hindi Walk will be organized on Hindi Day, 14th sept, at 6.30am on Sukhna Lake.

Primary Health Committee Meeting held

Chandigarh, September 11:- A meeting of Primary Health committee of Municipal Corporation was held here today under the chairperson of Dr. Jyotsna Wig and attended by other members of committee namely Maj. Gen. M.S. Kandal, Mrs. Heera Negi, Smt. Asha Jaswal and other concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting it was decided that repair work of all civil dispensaries be started immediately and one doctor deputed in general house meeting alongwith ambulance by Director Health, UT, Chandigarh. The committee further decided that the recruitment of doctors on contract basis for dispensaries be started for the smooth running of civil dispensaries. The members were of the view that sufficient manpower may be provided in each civil dispensary alongwith furniture items.

Kirron Kher inaugurates AC halls at cremation ground, sector 25

Chandigarh, September 11: – Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated air-conditioned prayer hall at cremation ground, sector 25 in presence of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh, Smt. Sheela Devi, area councilor, other councilors, officers of MCC and area residents.

The newly provided AC halls have been provided at a cost of Rs. 57.34 lacs including civil and electrical works. The Halls having dimension 24’x0”x78’-0” and have 5 air conditioners having capacity of 2 tons in each hall, which can be booked from cremation ground authorities.
