Cricket Match at Dumping site under ‘beat the Plastic’ campaign

Chandigarh, September 15:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in collaboration with Dumping Ground Joint Action Committee, Dadumajra today organized 20-20 Vishvkarma cricket tournament at the landfill site, Dumping ground Dadumajra, here today under ‘beat the plastic’ campaign.

Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh formally inaugurated the match in presence of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh and local area residents.

While addressing the locals and players of the both teams, the Commissioner assured that feasibility to develop this ground as play ground for playing cricket will be checked and developed as per the guidelines of landfill to facilitate the local children and players.

The Commissioner said that very shortly the work for legacy mining of the dump lying in the landfill site will be started by first week of October and next ground will be developed to play football matches. He said that Municipal Corporation will also organize sports event in the dumping ground through its Culture & Sports committee and matches between Commissioner’s XI and Mayor’s XI will be played in this ground.

 The Commissioner emphasized on the need to beat the plastic and appealed the local residents to join hands with the Municipal Corporation to reduce plastic and get their near & Dears engaged to avoid plastic items and create awareness against the use of Plastic.

MCC organizes community training workshop of Sanitation workers

Chandigarh, September 15:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh launched “Community training of Sanitation workers” programme for the attendants of toilet blocks, provided and maintained by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh throughout the city.

Following the directions of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized first capacity building workshop to sensitize the sanitation workers (attendants of toilet blocks) of market areas, green belts, slums & colonies and community toilets. Near about 100 sanitation workers (attendants) from different toilet blocks attended the workshop. Engineers of Public Health wing, MCC sensitized the attendants how to handle the public as well as community toilets and keep the inner and outer areas clean.

While sharing idea behind these workshops, Sh. Yadav said that to build capacity in sanitation workers for maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation technologies in the public and community toilets throughout the city, MCC decided to organize these workshops. He said that in order to tackle poor sanitation, we need to ensure that sanitation workers are trained in the knowledge, including the cleaning and maintenance, eco-sanitation and waste management.

The Commissioner further said that the MCC aimed to build capacity develop the skills needed to achieve the ‘Clean City Mission’.  He said that this programme will cater to the capacity-building needs of people working at different levels in the sanitation value chain, from middle management of MCC officials to the field level sanitation workers, working in the public as well as community toilets.

MCC organizes Nukkar Natak at Sector 17

Chandigarh, September 15:- The Information, Education & Communication (IEC) team of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today organized Nukkar Natak and play under the “Plastic Free City” campaign in the INS&OUTS 7th Archibuild show 2019 at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

During the play the team sensitized visitors against the use of plastic items and created awareness about “Jal Skahti Abhiyan”. The team has planned to roll out 100 nukkar nataks in different parts of city including schools, colleges, govt. institutions and public places to create awareness against the use of plastic items.

MCC removed unregistered vendors from city

Chandigarh,  The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has carried out a anti encroachment drive today in various parts of city to remove unregistered vendors from market areas as well as from road sides.

Following the directions of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC, the enforcement team of MCC started the drive from sector 19, 20, 32, 45, 44, 35, 22, 15 and other parts of city and removed unregistered vendors including rehri pharis and food carts, cloth and shoe sellers etc. and challaned 77 violators. The team seized their articles and items, which were sent to the enforcement store.

The Commissioner directed the enforcement wing of MCC to conduct these type of drives on regular basis and take strict action against the unregistered vendors throughout city.

First fresher’s party at UIFT, PU

Chandigarh:

Senior students of University Institute of Fashion Technology, Panjab University today gave a warm welcome to the new students of the institute. Students of bachelor’s degree and master’s degree staged fascinating bhangra, hip-hop and music performances to entertain the newcomers. In addition to this, a host of games were planned- including tongue twisters to keep the audience engaged.

“The event was organised keeping in mind the sensitivity towards new students and the need for seniors to befriend the newcomers and make them comfortable in the university atmosphere,” said Kirti Sheron and Jasleen Kaur, UIFT faculty members who were a part of organising committee. Away from stress of settling in new environment, this fresher’s party for a breather for them and they loved the idea,” said Dikshita, a student of BSc (Third Semester) who was a part of organising team.  “We are extremely indebted to the department, to the teaching faculty and senior students for having
hosted this get-together. We feel special and deeply touched by the warmth,” said Bhupinder, a student of BSc (First Semester) who received title of Mr. Fresher. UIFT Chairperson Dr. Prabhdip Brar encouraged students to continue such activities and expressed her happiness that students have decided to add freshers party and farewell officially to the department activites.

Self-development workshop at PU

Chandigarh:

Awareness and Self Development workshops organised at Department of Education Ms Nidhi Chopra, Manager Campus France for the French Embassy informed the M. Ed and M.A
Education students about higher education opportunities and scholarships in France. The
interactive workshop was coordinated by Ms Rajneesh and Mr. Dev  JRFs in the
Department.


Chairperson Prof Latika informed that the two workshops were organised for postgraduate
students. Another workshop for enhancing goal setting, perseverance and team work was
facilitated by Alka Gauri Ji and Tenzin who are life long kaaryakartas of Swami
Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari at Panchkula centre. Susheel and Shivam engaged the
students in activity based team learning and patriotic group singing. The message of
success through perseverance from the life of Eknath ji, founder of Rock Memorial  was
shown through powerpoint presentation.

Mrs. Emma Seagreaves, Associate Head and Dr. Damian Mather, LL.M. Program Co-ordinator from Manchester Law School of Manchester Metropolitan University, UK visited the Department of Laws, Panjab University here today.

Chandigarh:

The team interacted with the faculty members in the presence of Prof. Nandita Singh, Dean International Students and Prof. Meenu Paul, Chairperson d. During interaction, both the institutions explored possibilities for collaboration in research and publication, student exchange program. Prof. Nandita Singh, discussed the formalities to sign any MoU with the Law School in particular and University in general. The possible common areas of Law identified in both the law schools were International Human Rights Law, International Business Law, Cyber Law, Intellectual Property Law. 


Dr. Shipra Gupta, introduced the team members to the students during the interactive session. During interaction, Ms. Emma and Dr. Damian made a presentation regarding the courses offered by MMU, UK. They also highlighted the assured fellowships offered by MMU, UK to all the Indian students. The visit was co-ordinated by Dr. Dinesh Kumar.

Competitions held for Hindi Diwas at PU

Chandigarh September 13, 2019

Tagore Literary Club of the Institute of Educational Technology & Vocational Education, Panjab University today organized an Essay Writing competition, Dictation Competition, Poster making and Slogan writing activities on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. The topic of the event was “Hindi, Hind Ki Dhadkan”. 25 students from the Institute participated in the Poster making and Slogan Writing and 20 students participated in essay writing and dictation. During this celebration the students showed their talent and creative skills. Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur, Chairperson of the Institute highlighted the importance of  ‘Hindi’ as Matre Bhasha. She gave a brief description of history of this language.
Event Coordinator Dr. Amritpal Kaur described the changing face of Hindi in the present scenario through her presentation. All faculty members were presented to make this programme a success.

Celebrate 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Guru Nanak Dev Ji

550th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated by the Department of Music, Panjab University, Chandigarh with presentation of Kirtan by the students of the department and Dr. Alankar Singh, Department of Music, Punjabi University, Patiala and lecture-cum-demonstration by Prof. Nivedita Singh, Department of Music, Punjabi University, Patiala. Prof. Karamjit Singh, Registrar, in his address said that the message of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is to remove ego from your life and focus on work. While quoting various references from Shri Guru Granth Sahib, he talked about tolerance, inequality, corruption, women exploitation and universal brotherhood.


  Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instructions graced the occasion.

Bicycle tour organised to promote ‘Plastic Free City’ campaign

Chandigarh, September 13:- To promote ‘Plastic Free City’ campaign in city, a bicycle tour has been organised by the Alliance Francaise De Chandigarh and Chandigarh Tourism Department in collaboration with The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh from Alliance Francaise to Capitol Complex, here today.

The bicycle users carried the placards using slogans “Plastic Hatao, Shehar Bachao” and “Jal hai to Kal hai” to create awareness against the use of plastic and Jal Shakti Abhiyan. The IEC team of Municipal Corporation sensitized citizens on the route throughout the heritage sites of Chandigarh alongwith the bicycle users. The MCC team encouraged citizens to avoid plastic and use jute/cloth bags and follow traditional methods to beat the plastic.
