Youth to Play Important Role in Nation Building- Anurag Thakur

‘Youth to become job creator and not job seeker’ said Sh. Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, while addressing the gathering during Panjab University Foundation Day celebrations, here today. He urged the youth to play important role in nation building. The whole World is looking at India since India has more than 65% below the age of 35 and 50% of its population below the age of 25, he added.


        He motivated the young generation of 21st century to take India to greater heights. While appreciating the iconic alumni of PU in every field, urged to take ahead cleanliness drive to make India a clean campus which would be a befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He urged the youth to re-prioritise their priorities to nurture their capabilities for the societal transformation. He asked the youth to understand their inner strength to create their own fate and contribute in making a strong nation. 


        Sh. Thakur appreciated the tree plantation drive undertaken by PU and he himself planted a tree today before the start of the programme. He also urged the media to create awareness regarding various societal issues related to conservation of water, environment etc. In line with boost to innovation, research and startups by Govt. of India, PU to take lead in this regard. The Union Minister assured of all help to PU for future projects.


        S. Manpreet Singh Badal, Minister of Finance, Government of Punjab in his address said that PU is one of the oldest Universities in India established in 1882 and since then, is shaping the character of Punjab and surrounding areas. The character of State of Punjab in protecting the dignity and honour of India since ages, is shaped through Colleges and University which is also projected through hope, courage and glory for the nation. He urged the youth not to shirk from their responsibilities in taking India ahead. For meaningful society, it is the youth only who can make India or break
India.

        Earlier, Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his welcome address, listed various achievements of PU including recently received MAKA Trophy for overall sports in India. Talking on the vision of the University, PU VC said that all steps are being taken to make it a world class institution of higher learning
by continuous faculty development programmes and upgradation of infrastructure to international standards, inviting eminent scholars, partnerships with top ranking Universities for teaching, research, training and consultancy, encouraging the patenting of research outcome etc.

8th DST Inspire Internship Programme

Chandigarh October 14, 2019

DST Inspire Internship Program Centre, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh is going to organise 7th DST Inspire Internship Camp from October 15-19, 2019.Bhatnagar Awardees, Academy Fellows and Eminent Scientists from IISc, IITs, IISERs, NIPERs, DRDO, CSIR, DST, DBT, central/state universities, research centres like TIFR, NBRC, BARC, NCL, JNCASR, NCBS etc. in the science streams will be visiting Panjab University to motivate young generation with their scientific experiences. Their visit and interaction with Panjab University faculty will foster research and teaching collaborations. 500+ meritorious science students (class XI/XII) from specifically from Haryana, and tricity will be participating in the 8th DST Inspire Internship Program.

        Inauguration will be on Oct 15, 2019 at University Law Auditorium at 9.00 am. Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar is the Chief Guest of Function. You are cordially invited for inauguration. We will be pleased have you at function. Students will be attending lectures at University Law Auditorium in the morning and laboratory sessions in all science departments in sector 14 as well as in sector 25 in the afternoon/evening from Oct 15-19, 2019.

        This is major outreach activity of Panjab University. It will facilitate getting good points for NAAC/NIRF and will enhance Panjab University peer review by society and other stake holders for NIRF ranking by MHRD. You are requested to depute concerned person and also inform the media persons to cover the DST Camp activities.

Jal Sanrakshan Hackathon results announced

Chandigarh October 14:- Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) today announced the winners of the Jal Sanrakshan Hackathon – a month long open competition held in the city to invite innovative solutions for water conservation. The posters received will be displayed at the Community Centre in Sector 22 and winners will be felicitated by the CEO, CSCL at 11 am on 16th October.

While sharing this Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh-cum-CEO-CSCL informed that Llunched on 5th September, this competition was hosted by Chandigarh Smart City Limited in coordination with the recently created Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

He said that over two hundred entries were received from various categories, and the finalists were judged in a panel comprising the Municipal Commissioner (also the CEO, Chandigarh Smart City), Mr. Shailendra Singh, SE, MCPH – (nodal officer) Jal shakti Abhiyan, and Mr. Manoj Bansal – Chief Engineer MCC.

Winners in the under 18 category are Jeevanjot Kaur of Ajit Karam Singh International School (1st prize), and Garv Aggarwal of Hansraj Public School (2nd prize). In the college students category Prerna a BSc student of Post Graduate College for Women (1st prize) and Rachit Bansal of the Institute of Engineering & Technology (2nd prize) submitted the most innovative solutions. Ms. Geeta Godiyal is the prize winner in the open for all category.

He further said that the exhibition is open for all, and more ideas on water conservation will be discussed and collected during the event.

3 Days International Seminar commenced today at PU

Chandigarh: 

Three Days International Seminar on “Glorious Legacy of Guru Nanak in the Era of Globalization” was inaugurated here today to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.


Shri G.S. Gill, Former Additional Advocate General, Rajasthan in his inaugural address, elaborated upon the legacy of Guru Nanak’s teachings by explaining the important historical events of Guru’s life.


Prof Gurinder Singh Mann, Santa Barbara University, California, USA in his keynote address, highlighted the multidimensional perspectives of Guru Nanak’s philosophy historically and geographically by giving stress on Guru’s teachings of truth, equality of humans, peace, women rights and brotherhood.


Prof Shankar Ji Jha, Dean of University Instructions and Officiating Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, in his presidential remarks stressed on adopting Guru’s philosophy in daily lives.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh while introducing the seminar theme stressed on implementation of principles of  Shri Guru Nanak. While quoting from Gurubani, he added that the message of controlling ego and ensuring welfare of all is clearly mentioned in Shri Guru Granth Sahib which should be followed
by all. He elaborated the concept of “Kirat Karo, Nam Japo te Vand Chhako”.  Prof Jatinder Grover, Dean, Faculty of Education, welcomed the international and national delegates.


Second session was devoted to the theme “Spiritual Foundations of Humanism and Sikhism”. It was chaired by Dr. N.S. Virk, Deputy Chairman, Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Haryana who spoke on his experiences of adopting Guru Nanak’s messages of mental and spiritual realization. Prof Balkar Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala and Prof Yograj Angrish, Punjab University, Chandigarh were distinguished speakers on the dice. Papers were presented on the theme by the faculty and research scholars arrived from different parts of India. Second session’s proceedings were coordinated by Prof Uma Sethi, Panjab University, Chandigarh.


Third session was devoted to the theme “Guru Nanak’s Concept of Egalitarian Society”. It was chaired by Prof Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, Panjab University, Chandigarh who stressed on the social relevance of Guru Nanak’s teachings. Prof Sohinder Bir Singh, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Prof Paramvir Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala and Shri Kesar Singh Neer, Calgary, Canada were distinguished speakers on the dice. Papers were presented on the theme by the faculty and research scholars arrived from different parts of India. Third session’s proceedings were coordinated by Dr Amardeep Kaur, MCM DAV College, Chandigarh.


The above Seminar will hold discussions on various themes relating to Guru Nanak’s teachings and philosophy from 11-13 October, 2019 at Golden Jubilee Hall and ICSSR Hall of Panjab University, Chandigarh.

MCC to organize big Kirtan Samagam at Sector 34 on 9&10 November

Chandigarh, October 11: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to organize big two days Kirtan Samagam on 9th and 10th November, 2019 at Sector 34, Chandigarh.

The implementation committee constituted for planning the activities of 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji held its meeting here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Hardeep Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor and attended by other members of the committee namely Smt. Ravinder Kaur Gujral, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu and concerned officers of MCC.

The committee decided to organize big kirtan samagam during which different display enclosures will be provided under one roof depicting the teachings and “Udassis” of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Besides this other display of teachings and Kirtan Samagam will be organized during two days programme.

MCC to organize Kirtan Samagam at Gurudwara Dehura Sahib, Mata Raj Kaur ji Manimajra on 12th October

Chandigarh, October 11:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is going to organize 2nd Kirtan Samagam to commemorate 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji at Gurudwara Dehura Sahib, Mata Raj Kaur ji on 12th October from 6.30 pm to 10.00 pm.

While sharing this information, Sh. Hardeep Singh, Chairman, implementation committee said here today that prominent Kirtan Jathas including Bhai Davinder Singh ji and Bhai Shaukin Singh ji from Sri Darbar Sahib, Golden Temple, Amritsar and Bhai Parkash Singh ji from Gurudwara Dehura Sahib, Mata Raj Kaur ji, Manimajra will grace the occasion as special Kirtniye.

He appealed to the citizens of Chandigarh to reach the venue to attend the Kirtan and Guru Ka Langar.

UIPS CONVOCATION

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh completes its glorious 75 years and the 5th
Convocation is another milestone event in the celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee year, organized, here today.

            Dr. Navneet Puri, the founder, Chairman & CEO, Nevakar, Inc, New Jersey, Centre of Excellence, USA and an alumnus of UIPS, in his convocation address while sharing the roadmap of  his professional journey, he motivated students to adopt Life lessons such as not to work in boundaries, keep expanding their horizons, undergo continuous
introspection, get exposure to different environments and be comfortable with the uncertainties of life.

            He announced initiation of collaborative programme between UIPS and Rutgers The State University of New Jersey, which will include a Fellowship cum training Programme for Postgraduate UIPS students at Rutgers followed by their industrial training at Nevakar Inc. to be sponsored by Dr Navneet Puri. He also shared his personal and special moments of UIPS, 28 years ago.

            Professor Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instructions and officiating Vice Chancellor, PU, in his address said that the meaning of education is defined not only by attending the lectures but also by its practical application.

            Professor Anil Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, administered the “Pharmacist’s Oath for Code of
Pharmaceutical Ethics”. A total of 86 students including 46 B.Pharm and 40 M.Pharm were conferred their degrees.

            The valedictorian of the year from B.Pharm Mr Waseem Ali and M.Pharm Miss Tanvi Gupta delivered their heartfelt speeches on how the UIPS nurtured and shaped them and their future both personally and professionally.

            The Chairperson, UIPS Professor Kanwaljit Chopra introduced the Guest of Honor and in her welcome address highlighted the collective contribution of the faculty, staff, students and alumni in building this institute over a span of 7 ½ decades. While giving blessings to all the students, she shared with them the mantra of success to aim high, soar high but always remain grounded.

             Earlier, the event began with a peek into the illustrious 75 years of the Institute starting from its pre-independence humble beginning in the year 1944 at Lahore.

कालका के एसडीएम एवं रिटर्निंग अधिकारी राकेश संधू ने जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि गांव भोगपुर पिंजौर में फलाईंग स्कवेड टीम ने दो टैंपो को बिना अनुमति के राजनैतिक दलों के झंडे लगा कर प्रचार कर आदर्श चुनाव आचार संहिता की उलंघना के आरोप में उन टैंपो मालिकों के खिलाफ पिंजौर थाना में मामला दर्ज करवाया गया है।

कालका, 10 अक्टूबर- कालका के एसडीएम एवं रिटर्निंग अधिकारी राकेश संधू ने जानकारी देते हुए बताया कि गांव भोगपुर पिंजौर में फलाईंग स्कवेड टीम ने दो टैंपो को बिना अनुमति के राजनैतिक दलों के झंडे लगा कर प्रचार कर आदर्श चुनाव आचार संहिता की उलंघना के आरोप में उन टैंपो मालिकों के खिलाफ पिंजौर थाना में मामला दर्ज करवाया गया है। उन्हांेंने बताया कि फलाईंग स्कवेड टीम पूरी तरह से मुस्तैद है और आदर्श चुनाव आचार संहिता में कोई भी उलंघन बर्दाश नहीं किया जाएगा। इसके अतिरिक्त फलाईंग स्कवेड टीम ने बिना अनुमति के अनेक घरों और इमारतों से राजनैतिक पार्टियों के झंडों को भी हटवाया। आरओ ने कहा कि सभी राजनैतिक दल एवं नागरिक आचार सहिंता का दृढता से पालन करें। 


उन्होंने कहा कि कालका विधानसभा क्षेत्र में चुनाव प्रचार के लिये होर्डिंग्स, पोस्टर और झंडे इत्यादि जिला प्रशासन द्वारा निर्धारित स्थानों पर ही लगाये जा सकते है, जिसकी सूचना पहले ही अखबारों व अन्य माध्यमों से दी जा चुकी है। बिना अनुमति के किसी भी सरकारी संपति पर यह सामग्री चिपकाने व लगाने की स्थिति में संबंधित उम्मीदवार और राजनैतिक दल के विरूद्ध डिफेसमैंट आॅफ प्रोपर्टी एक्ट के तहत कार्यवाही अमल में लाई जायेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि लोगों की निजी संपति और भवनों पर झंडे लगाने व प्रचार सामग्री चस्पा करने से पहले भी लिखित अनुमति लेना जरूरी है।

MCC to allow Mehandi stalls in Community Centers from 15th to 17th October

Chandigarh, October 10:- keeping larger interests of citizens, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has decided to give permission to the Mehandi stalls inside the Community Centres for ‘Karwachauth’ throughout city from 15th to 17th October, 2019.

While sharing about this decision, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh said that these permissions will be given in all the community centres subject to the availability throughout Chandigarh. The list of available community centres has been can be seen in the official website of MCC i.e. mcchandigarh.gov.in.

The Mayor said that a meeting of all the senior officers of MCC was called by him here today evening to discus about the permissions to the Mehandi stalls keeping in view the ensuing Karwachauth function on 17th October. He said that temporary permission will be given to the Mehandi stalls inside the community centres (only in the parking areas and open grounds inside community centre) for three days @ Rs. 200 plus GST as applicable per day.

He said that permission will be given on the spot at the respective community centres by the concerned staff of Municipal Corporation deployed at the venue.

Segregation of Solid waste at source by citizens will be mandatory from 12th October

Chandigarh, October 9:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has mandated the source segregation of solid waste by general public in Chandigarh with effect from 12th October, 2019.

The MCC has issued notice regarding segregation of waste at source level here today according which the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will not take mixed garbage, otherwise and the defaulters will also be liable for appropriate fine as per Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
