Applications for Shiv Nath Rai Kohli Memorial Mid-Career Best Scientist Award

Chandigarh:

 Panjab University has sought Nominations/Applications for the prestigious Shiv Nath Rai Kohli Memorial Mid-career Best Scientist Award for 2019.  The award comprises of Rs. 1 lakh and citation. The award will be presented during the Annual Convocation of the University in 2020.

The annual award was instituted by Prof. R.K. Kohli, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Punjab, in the memory of his father.  Nominations preferablyonline ( https://sites.google.com/site/snrkohliaward/) or as Hardcopy in the prescribed Format enclosed in an envelope marked Confidential: Shiv Nath Rai Kohli Memorial Mid-career Best Scientist Award-2019 mustreach the Office of the Dean Research, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Panjab University, Chandigarh latest by  December 31, 2019, 5.00PM.  The Guidelines, Eligibility Conditions, Terms and Conditions and the Prescribed Format of the Nomination/Application Form can be downloaded from the official website:

 Perspective mid-career scientists/researchers, must bean Indian and not above 50 years as on by 31st December 2019, can apply.  Even self-nomination is allowed. He/She must be actively engaged in research in Panjab University /Regional Centres of Panjab University or its affiliated colleges / Central University of Punjab /member institutions of CRIKC / Research and educational institutions located in Chandigarh or the State of Punjab in any of the areas of research including sciences, humanities, medical science, dentistry, microbial science, commerce, business management,
languages, sports science, library science, computers, engineering (any stream) and others. 


        A number and quality of published research papers in indexed journals and patents in any field (sciences, humanities, medical science, dentistry, microbial science, commerce, business management, languages, sports science, library science, computers, engineering any stream, and others) based on work done in India, independently or in a team or in collaboration with other Indian institutions will be considered.

MCC Enforcement panel hold meeting

Chandigarh, October 3:- A meeting of the Enforcement Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar Gupta and attended by other members of committee namely Sh. Sachin Lohtiya, Sh. Arun Sood, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh, Sh. Ravi Kant Sharma, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Sh. Ajay Dutta and concerned officers of MCC.

During the meeting the committee members discussed the issue of permission for putting stalls in the markets during festival season and resolved that the MCC should allow temporary stalls in market areas during festival season as per past practice.

The committee also decided to inspect the market areas to check the status of authorized venders and essential service providers. The committee asked the concerned officers of enforcement wing to remove generator sets from back lanes of markets, which are being used for commercial purposes and creates hindrance to the public for free movement in the back lanes.

The committee resolved that awareness should be created through pamphlets among public regarding the whatsup number of MCC to report complaint about encroachments and unauthorized vending in the markets. The members asked the enforcement staff to remove tourist buses from NAC market and arrange permanent solution to this encroachment. The committee also discussed the issue of Ice crème vendors, which come during night time and asked the concerned officials to come out with permanent solution in this regard.

Administrator launches Plastic Mukt Chandigarh Campaign

Chandigarh, October 2:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh kick started the new revolution against Plastic and launched Plastic Mukt Chandigarh campaign today from Capitol Complex, Chandigarh in presence of Sh. Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Mayor, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has organized a “Shramdaan” programme during which all departments of Chandigarh Administration, NGOs of city including Yuvsatta & others, representatives of RWAs, MWAs and volunteers from colleges & schools were present.

While addressing the gathering, the Administrator said that from today every citizens of Chandigarh will have to say goodbye to single-use plastic in the city and urged them to attempt curbing its use. He said that Environment Department & Municipal Corporation must completely ban all types of single use plastic carry bags, thermocol disposable cutlery and discourage the use of artificial banners, flags, flowers, water bottles, plastic folders etc.

The Administrator asked the MC Commissioner to organize competition among sectors, villages and institutes for “Best in reducing plastic usage” tag and incentivize the winners.

The Administrator, all officers and volunteers pledged to be always committed towards cleanliness & sanitation and strive their best to keep the city and country clean at all times. Strive to protect nature and environment by avoiding single use plastic and keep fitness as part of their daily routine.

The Administrator also released booklet on “Single use plastic ban” describing plastic items banned and remain in use for multiple time. He asked the Environment department and Municipal Corporation to enforce single use plastic ban properly in city to make the city plastic free.

The Administrator honoured best workers of MCC including Sh. Kundan and Sh. Gopi Ram, sanitation workers at Public Toilets, maintained by MCC, Sh. Harjit Singh and Sh. Paramjit, sewermen, MCC & Sh. Jagpal and Sh. Vedpal, safaikarmacharis of sanitation wing, MCC.

Earlier, the Administrator flagged off the rally of volunteers, NGOs and officials of Administration & Corporation for plaguing activity in Bougainvillea garden.

Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh said that the Corporation has started intensive sanitation drives under phase I of the “Swachhata hi Seva” programme started on 11th September to 1st October, 2019 and field level drives carried out including lifting of C&D waste, garbage vulnerable points have been cleaned, pruning of trees and grass trimming in the parks and roadsides, horticulture waste removed from the city, water bodies have been cleaned and rejuvenated.

The Mayor said that public toilets in Markets have been cleaned and repaired, dustbins have been provided in market places and city parks, gaushalas/cattle ponds have been cleaned and repaired.

He further said that the separate awareness programme against the use of plastic under the theme “Plastic Mukt Chandigarh”, have been conducted including “Shramdaan” as mass movement throughout the city in all 26 wards which led by respective area councilors and in 13 villages, recently transferred to the MCC.

The Mayor said that programmes will be organized including Recycling/disposal of collected plastic waste, leading to a plastic free Diwali from 3rd October to 27th October, 2019.

The campaigns would be focused to ensure that all the coming festivals are zero-waste and plastic free events to make “Plastic Free City”. Each and every stakeholder of the city will be involved in this campaign and seminars would be organized in schools, colleges and other educational institutions on plastic free Chandigarh. Volunteers of NSS, NCC, Scouts & Guide would be roped in this mass campaign.

The rally of approximately 2500 volunteers from different colleges, schools and NGOs made shramdaan, started from N-choe at Bougainvillea garden. The different teams of B&R wing, Horticulture wing and sanitation wing of MCC cleaned the N-choe passing through Bougainvillea garden, leisure valley, Rose Garden towards palm garden.

 The students namely Lovepreet Kaur Dhanoa of Diploma in Forensic Science & Criminology in the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh won Individual Prize in Giddha under Panjab University Giddha Team in 61st Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival held from September 27 to 30, 2019 organized by Government College of
Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50, Chandigarh.

UIPS, PU Faculty bags a major BIRAC research project

Chandigarh:

Under the scheme of Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI) implemented through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) a project worth Rs 113.07 lakh has been sanctioned to Dr Indu Pal Kaur, Professor of
Pharmaceutics, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University and Mr Jaspreet Singh Gulati, Director, Hitech Formulations Pvt Ltd, Chandigarh by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The project has been funded with an aim to promote collaborative research on topical delivery of antifungal. The fund will further support the formulation of advanced products like cream, gel, lotion, and shampoos as per patented technology at industrial level.


        UIPS already has a licence agreement on this patented technology which is ready to go for scale-up at Hitech Formulations. This patented technology improves the stability of antifungal agents, possesses longer residence in skin, casues no or negligible local side effects and reduces risk of fungal resistance. Owing to these merits, the technology is proposed to have advantages over other marketed topical antifungal products.


        The collaboration between Professor Indu Pal Kaur, UIPS with several Pharmaceutical Industries including Hitech Formulations Pvt. Ltd., is perceived to translate the research carried out in the lab to a marketable product for the benefit
of the society.

Weekly Ward Level Meeting of MCC held

Chandigarh, October 01:- The weekly ward level meeting of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh which was attended by councilors namely Sh. Anil Kumar Dubey, Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Sh. Shakti Prakash Devshali, Sh. Bharat Kumar and Sh. Jagtar Singh Jagga of Ward No. 20,23,24,25, and 01 respectively.

During the meeting, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other concerned officers were present.

During the meeting the councillors discussed the pending issues of their respective wards and asked the concerned officers to complete the ongoing works and initiate the new allotted projects. The councillors were of the view that pending works will be completed first and then the new works will be started in the wards.

          In the meeting Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh requested all the councillors to participate in plastic free campaign and create plastic free awareness programmes in their respective wards.

Issue on Mental Health of Indian Journal of Psychology released

Chandigarh:

 A special issue on mental health of Indian Journal of Psychology was released by Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean University Instructions and officiating Vice Chancellor, Panjab University.


        This issue has 25 articles contributed by some of the greatest experts in the field of mental health. The special significance of this issue is that it was dedicated to Professor Narendra Nath Wig (1932-2018), who was a world famous psychiatrist and founder of Dept of Psychiatry, PGI, Chandigarh.


        Prof Jha appreciated the efforts of the editorial team led by Prof Emeritus Jitendra Mohan, Dr Meena Sehgal, Prof Vipin Sobti, Prof Sanjeev Sharma, Dr.Archana SIngh. Dr. Meetu Khosla, Dr Shruti Shourie and Dr. Davinder Rana.


        Speaking on the occasion, Professor R K Singla, Dean Research said that this Journal brings special laurels to Panjab University as this has been included in the UGC Care list.


        Prof Jitendra Mohan said that this Journal carries on the message of Dr N N Wig who redefined clinical and psychiatric problems into mental health. Mental health concerns all, whether they are physicians, ayurvedic experts, yoga experts or people working in the field of positive psychology.


        This Journal is supported by ICSSR. Professor Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University , Mr Sidharth Wig, son of Professor N N Wig; Dr Joshi, Secretary to Vice Chancellor and other experts attended the sombre event.


        Paying tributes to Dr Narendra Nath Wig, Professor Mohan said that he was a remarkable psychiatrist, excellent healer and an even more remarkable human being.
       

The exact message given by Professor Mukundan, Prof Gupta, Prof Parker, Prof Priti Arun, Prof Chavvi, and Prof Meetu Khosla is that one has to fight a battle against depression, anxiety, suicide ideation and drug abuse by adopting modern as well as ancient strategies.  The Journal carries the message that in modern society, mental health should be given top priority.

Cleanliness Drive at IETVE

Chandigarh :

 The Mother Teresa Vanity Club of the Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education (IETVE), Panjab University, Chandigarh organized cleanliness drive, here todasy and Classroom Decoration to commemorates 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Rekha Rani, Coordinator of the Club. The different groups of students of each class were assigned the specific area for the cleanliness drive. All the faculty members and students of the Institute participated in this cleanliness drive enthusiastically.   Also, Inter class ‘Classroom
Decoration Competition’ was held. The classroom of B.A.B.Ed. Semester-I was declared as the best decorated classroom by the judges- Mrs. Prabhdeep Kaur and Dr. Jagdeep Kumar.

PU Professor to Chair a Session in Asian Innovation Forum

Chandigarh September 30, 2019

Professor Rupinder Tewari, Coordinator, DST-Centre for Policy Research, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been invited to chair a session, ‘Future of SMEs and Startup Ecosystem’ during 5th Asian Innovation Forum to be held in Manila, Phillipines during October 3-5, 2019. Professor Tewari will also be delivering a scientific lecture on , ‘BIRAC-a Successful PPP Model for Stimulating Innovations (SMEs)’. In addition, he”ll dwell upon a study conducted by him and the scientific team of DST-CPR on recent inititaives of Government of India to stimulate Industry-Academia intercations in
Higher Education Institutes, National Research Laboratories and Industries.
