Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor, Chandigarh, the Appellate Authority (Street Vendors) today heard 19 cases concerning stays granted by the GRDRC on various grounds, including matters relating to non-surveyed vendors and cases where vending sites had already been allotted through draw of lots. The hearing commenced at 3:00 PM in the Conference Hall, Municipal Corporation Office.

After an in-depth examination of the records, the Mayor observed that a number of stays appeared unwarranted, particularly where alternate vending sites had been duly allotted. Emphasising the need to uphold the city’s planned character and ensure orderly vending in the public interest, the Mayor directed that matters be taken up on priority for early disposal. Accordingly, the next date of hearing has been fixed for 29.08.2025.

To steer the mandate of the Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (CSDE), Panjab University, a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) was co-hosted with University Business School (UBS) for students of Master of Business Administration. The Valedictory Function of the nine-day SEC on Mastering Basic to Advanced Excel was held. The SEC aimed to equip the participants with the wide-ranging functionality of Microsoft Excel, focusing on practical applications, automation, and AI-driven functions. The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, Dr. Pradeep Khanna, Group Project Manager, Infosys Ltd., addressed the participating students, emphasizing that the world’s most valuable resource is no longer gold or oil but data. With new skills and technologies being introduced much faster than a decade ago, it is imperative to be a life-long learner. Excel is too set for a transformation as the need for more effective methods to manage data increases. Dr. Khanna lauded the CSDE and UBS initiatives to meet the skilling needs of the students.
