46 PU Faculty shines among “TOP 2% SCIENTISTS OF THE WORLD”

Punjabi folk, Giddha & Bhangra Mark Teej Mela

A colourful event organised by MCC at Cactus Garden Ramdarbar

Chandigarh, August 18: – The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized the colourful Teej festival with great zeal in the Cactus Garden, Ramdarbar, here today. Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh was the chief guest during the cultural programme. Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, Chairperson, Arts, Culture & Sports committee, Sh. Bharat Kumar, area councilor, other councilors & officers of MCC and prominent personalities of area were present during the programme.

The function was marked with Punjabi, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, folk dances, songs, fusion of Giddha & Bhangra and Teeian de Geet by famous artists. The audience present in the Mela could not stop themselves to dance on the foot-tapping beats of “Dhol” and popular Punjabi numbers. The Member Parliament stressed upon the necessity to perpetuate cultural values among the masses especially in younger generation. She also enlightened the gathering about the social, religious and historical significance of the Teej Festival.

While addressing the gathering the Mayor said that MCC has made this Mela as an annual feature. He said that people of Chandigarh should know about their rich culture and we the Municipal Corporation are making small effort to gather the precious traditional festivals like Teej. Earlier, Smt. Sunita Dhawan welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries and honoured the chief guest with giving traditional fulkari to her. The chief guest took a round in the Mela in the Cactus Garden.

Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner lauded the efforts of MCC team organising the Teej event despite the continues rain and arranged beautiful function in the evening by displaying village profile, cultural programmes on stage and traditional peengan. He also appriciated the dedication of the area councillor Sh. Bharat Kumar not only for this programme but also his tireless efforts for the developmental works in his ward.

Other attractions of the Mela was including camel rides, Dholi, Madari, Charkhe, Manjire, Tumbe, Jamura Show, puppet show, Magic show by famous magician Pardeep, different stalls of Govt. schemes awareness etc. The stage was decorated with colourful lights and traditional “Jhandian” flags. East meets West as the streets fill with musical sounds, with everything from traditional folk, beats of Dhol and Teej diya Bolliyan to fusion of Giddha and Bhangra.

Various famous artists including Jaspreet Jassal, Jagjit Singh, Soniya and other enthralled the audience with Punjabi folk, sufi and Teej traditional numbers.
