Chandigarh, 29th August 2025: Paras Health has successfully performed a high-risk kidney transplant on a 49-year-old patient from New Delhi, who was battling end-stage renal disease alongside severe cardiac and respiratory complications. The complex surgery, led by Dr. Sunil Kumar, Director – Renal Transplant, was made possible through a living donation by the patient’s wife, with the donor procedure conducted laparoscopically.

The patient, Mr. Anand Prakash Mishra, had been living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and was diabetic for over 15 years, along with a history of hypertension. Over time, his condition worsened, leaving him physically weak and dependent on regular hemodialysis. During pre-transplant evaluation, doctors discovered he was also suffering from cardiomyopathy with an ejection fraction of only 25%, bilateral pleural effusion, and low serum albumin levels— all of which classified him as an extremely high-risk candidate for kidney transplantation. Despite these challenges, his wife, Mrs. Rajni Nisha, made the selfless decision to donate one of her kidneys to save his life.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Director – Kidney Transplant, Paras Health Panchkula, said, “This was a particularly challenging case due to the patient’s fragile health and associated complications. His recovery is a result of the trust shown by the family, the donor’s courage, and the seamless efforts of our transplant team. It highlights Paras Health Panchkula’s commitment to delivering world-class medical care and giving critically ill patients a second chance at life.”

Following the laparoscopic donor procedure, Mrs. Rajni Nisha recovered quickly and was discharged within three days. The recipient, Mr. Mishra, showed rapid improvement. Within days, his kidney function returned to normal, the fluid around his lungs cleared, and his heart function improved. Under the dedicated care of Dr. Sunil Kumar (Director, Kidney Transplant), Dr. Navjit Sidhu (Director, Nephrology), Dr. Ashwini Sharma (Director, Anaesthesia), Dr. Ashish Arora (Associate Director, Critical Care), and Dr. Shweta Prabhakar (Medical Superintendent, Transplant ICU), he was soon able to walk. He was discharged in stable condition with normal blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Highlighting the hospital’s growing expertise, Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Facility Director, Paras Health Panchkula, said, “Paras Health Panchkula has been consistently performing kidney transplants over the last two years, including many complex and high-risk cases. This successful surgery not only reaffirms our clinical excellence but also strengthens our mission of bringing advanced healthcare closer to patients in this region.”

Kidney transplants at Paras Health Panchkula reflect the hospital’s rising capability in handling difficult renal cases. With strong teamwork, medical skill, and family support, the hospital continues to help patients with limited options.

The case also underscores the life-saving importance of organ donation. By choosing to donate, families not only save lives but also inspire hope for countless patients battling organ failure. Paras Health continues to advocate awareness around organ donation as a powerful way to gift life.
