Painting Competition

 Department of Life Long Learning and Extension (DLLL&E), Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club, Chandigarh Mid-Town organized the Painting Competition for the Government School students of Class IX & X on the theme of “Population Growth and Environment” at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 
15-D, Chandigarh to celebrate the World Population Day. While addressing the students Mrs. Renu Gandhi, Programme Coordinator from DLLL&E said that rising population is not only impacting the quality of life of individual and society at large but also on our environment.  The issues such as rise of slums poverty rapidly depleting habitable area, green covers and draughts are the problems attributed to rising population, she added. It is like we have locked ourselves in a room with a time-bomb i.e. ticking and 
just waiting to go off and calls for finding a way to free ourselves from the 
situation.  There is a need to address the youth on the issues of population growth and environment. 


        In the painting competition 40 students took participate and they suggested different measures to control the population.  These are awareness of birth control methods, better education facilities, women empowerment and management of waste etc. Every student has been given a token of appreciation for participation in the competition. However, Rajni, Priya and Meghna get Ist, 2nd and 3rd Prizes respectively.  Seven students have been given consolation prizes on their best painting 
and their presentations.

    At the end of the day Madam Neeru Khattar from Inner Meal Club proposed a vote of thanks to the school and department for organizing an event in the best possible way with minimum recourses. She said that the global population is all said to breach the 8 billion mark and our share is the most. Therefore, there is a need to stop it and put the society on a right track. The pledge was taken by the students to have a Small Family Norms.
