Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh took immediate and strict action after catching four outsourced MC employees consuming liquor within the premises of the community centre at Dhanas. The incident occurred during a surprise late evening inspection of various community centres across the city.

The four employees, all outsourced workers including Shakti and Gurjeet Horticultural wing, Sector 16 Shanti kunj, Robin and Ajay Kumar, Road Sub Division no 4 from the B&R (Building & Roads) wing of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, were found drinking liquor inside the office located within the community centre building.

Taking serious note of the misconduct, the Commissioner ordered to terminate the services of these four employees immediately besides issuing a show cause notice to the concerned Junior Engineer (JE) of the B&R wing, who is responsible for the maintenance and care of the Dhanas community centre and all MCC property associated with it. The JE has been directed to appear in person at the Commissioner’s office by 12:00 noon tomorrow (July 10, 2025) along with a written reply. Failure to comply will lead to appropriate disciplinary proceedings as per rules.

The Commissioner has also issued clear instructions to all Executive Engineers and Junior Engineers to ensure strict supervision, proper upkeep, and responsible management of all Municipal Corporation properties, particularly community centres.

Sh. Amit Kumar reiterated that any form of negligence, indiscipline, or misuse of public property will not be tolerated and strict administrative action will be taken against those found guilty.
