To spread awareness about saying no to plastic and choosing eco-friendly options, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started a special five-day workshop series in city schools under the “Plastic Mukt Chandigarh” campaign.

The first workshop was held today at Government Model High School, Sector 38-B, in collaboration with Prasanchetas Foundation. Students learned how to make paper bags by reusing old newspapers and paper. This activity helped them understand how simple steps can help save the environment.

The team from MCC and the foundation encouraged students to reduce plastic use and choose paper, cloth, or jute bags while shopping. Students were given certificates of appreciation and were motivated to become “Swachhata Champions” by spreading the message of clean and green living to their friends and families.

While speaking about the initiative, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, said that these workshops will be held in different schools across Chandigarh from July 10 to July 16, to mark World Paper Bag Day. The main aim is to promote the habit of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR) among young students, he said.

He further said this initiative is a small but important step towards making Chandigarh free from single-use plastic and turning students into real changemakers for the environment.
