*Chandigarh, September 24:-* The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a Vendor Sensitization Programme on Swachhata today at Sector 44 market, aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene practices among local vendors. The event witnessed active participation from the vendor community and was held in convergence with the Swachhata and Lok Kalyan Mela.

City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of maintaining swachhata in public places, especially in busy market areas. “Street vendors are the backbone of the local economy, and it is their responsibility to ensure cleanliness around their vending zones. Proper waste disposal as per the Solid Waste Management Rules is not just a rule but a civic duty,” she stated.

MC Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, also spoke at the event, encouraging vendors to take ownership of their surroundings. “Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. A hygienic market not only attracts more customers but also promotes public health and well-being. He urged all vendors to segregate waste at source, use seperate dustbins for the wet and dry waste and avoid plastic use.”

Area Councillor Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh echoed similar sentiments, encouraging all stakeholders to come together in the spirit of community-driven swachhata.

The event concluded with distribution of IEC (Information, Education & Communication) material and a cleanliness pledge by all attendees.
