*MC Chandigarh organises Cyclothon for clean markets: City unites for Swachh Chandigarh at Sector 17*
*Chandigarh, September 30:-* In a vibrant display of civic responsibility and commitment to cleanliness, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, in collaboration with Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), organized a Cyclothon at Sector 17 Plaza under the ongoing ‘Swachhotsav’ and Swachhata Hi Seva Pakhwada initiative.
City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla flagged off the Cyclothon, joined by Sh. Sanjiv Chadha, President, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, along with CBM office bearers, local shopkeepers, MCC officers, safaimitras, and hundreds of enthusiastic citizens who pedaled in support of a garbage-free Chandigarh.
The Zero waste event aimed at raising awareness about market cleanliness and encouraging active participation from both traders and residents in maintaining hygiene.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor emphasized the crucial role of public cooperation in ensuring sustainable cleanliness. She said MCC alone cannot keep the city clean. The support of local shopkeepers and residents is vital. Segregating waste at the source is the first step toward a cleaner Chandigarh, she said.
The Cyclothon served not only as a fitness activity but also as a reminder that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. Participants carried placards promoting waste segregation and zero littering, reflecting the community’s dedication to a greener, cleaner future.
During his welcome address, CBM president Sh. Sanjiv Chadha said that the MCC and CBM reaffirmed their commitment to continue such collaborative initiatives to instill a culture of cleanliness across all city markets.
