*MC Chandigarh leads by example with plogging drive at New Lake, Sector 42*
*Chandigarh, August 4:-* In a commendable initiative to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, in collaboration with Don Bosco Society and Onkar Charitable Foundation, organized a plogging activity today at New Lake, Sector 42.
The 10 day long drive was launched by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, alongside Senior Deputy Mayor and area councillor Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty in the presence of MC Joint Commissioner Sh. Himanshu Gupta. Office bearers of the local Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) also marked their presence, showcasing strong community support for the event.
Around 200 school children enthusiastically participated in the plogging drive, collecting litter from in and around the lake and its adjoining stair areas. Prior to the activity, participants took a Swachhata Pledge, reinforcing their commitment to a cleaner, greener India. The event was meticulously planned as a zero-waste initiative, with all collected waste responsibly transported by MCC garbage picker vehicles.
MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar praised the young participants, calling them *Swachh Yuva Doot* “agents of change” and emphasizing the power of collective small steps in bringing about transformative change. “Community-driven efforts like these are essential in shaping a sustainable and clean city. He urged all citizens to actively take part in cleanliness drives within their neighborhoods.
He said the initiative not only aimed at cleaning the area but also instilled a deep sense of environmental awareness and civic responsibility among the youth and residents.
