*Chandigarh, July 5:–* To ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens during the upcoming rainy season, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation issued a comprehensive advisory under the “Safai Apnao Bimaari Bhagao” campaign. This advisory provides essential guidelines to follow during heavy rainfall and flood-like situations.
MC Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, said that the safety of citizens is of utmost importance, especially during the challenging rainy season. This advisory outlines crucial precautions and steps that every citizen should take to protect themselves, their property, and the community.
Key highlights of the advisory include:
1. Avoid Waterlogged Areas: Steer clear of waterlogged areas and underpasses to prevent the risk of electric shocks and other hazards.
2. Stay Indoors During Heavy Rain: Remain indoors during heavy rainfall to minimize the chances of accidents caused by slippery roads, falling trees, and other hazards.
3. Secure Your Property: Secure personal property, including windows, doors, and loose items, to prevent damage from strong winds.
4. Drive Safely: Drive cautiously, avoid flooded roads, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
5. Beware of Electrical Hazards: Stay away from electrical poles, wires, and equipment, and report any fallen or exposed electrical wires to the authorities immediately.
6. Avoid Floodwater: Avoid contact with floodwater as it may be contaminated and pose health risks.
7. Prepare an Emergency Kit: Prepare an emergency kit with essential supplies, including flashlights, batteries, first aid, and dewatering/pumping arrangements.
8. Stay Informed: Keep informed about weather forecasts and warnings, and follow the advice of local authorities and emergency services.
9. Support each Others: Check on neighbors, especially the elderly, disabled, and those living alone, to ensure their safety and well-being.
