*Chandigarh December 22:-* With a focus on environmental consciousness and community empowerment, as it strives to transform the city into a model for sustainable development, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has introduced innovative initiative by creating a unique and sustainable Christmas tree, Snowman, and Santa Claus, designed with a difference, focusing on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR).

While sharing about the initiative, Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS stated that this revolutionary RRR approach to Christmas celebrations in Chandigarh is a testament to MC Chandigarh’s commitment to environmental consciousness and empowering communities. By repurposing discarded tyres and utilizing eco-friendly materials, the MCC is creating a sustainable and inclusive festive atmosphere. The MCC believe that through these efforts, it can inspire individuals and communities to adopt a greener and more responsible approach to celebrating Christmas.

She said that the RRR principle has guided the decision to repurpose old and used tyres from MC Chandigarh’s field vehicles, demonstrating the importance of waste reduction and environmental consciousness. The carefully designed structure of the tree showcases the durability and versatility of tyres, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional Christmas trees.

She further said that in addition to the innovative Christmas tree, MC Chandigarh has opted for decorations made from recycled and eco-friendly materials crafted by Self-Help Groups (SHGs). By utilizing repurposed materials such as paper, fabric, and natural fibers, MC Chandigarh promotes responsible consumption and raises awareness about sustainable practices. These decorations not only enhance the festive ambiance but also carry a powerful message of environmental consciousness and the value of recycling.

The Commissioner said that to promote sustainable and eco-friendly shopping options, MC Chandigarh is featuring a special display offering handcrafted decorative accessories by SHGs. Citizens can find a range of visually appealing items such as Santa Claus figurines, Christmas trees, and decorative accessories like candles, all made from wool, crochet, paper, and other waste and recycled materials. By purchasing these sustainable products, citizens actively contribute to waste reduction, support local artisans/communities, and foster a more sustainable economy.

She further said that the MC Chandigarh display encourages responsible consumption and empowers citizens to make a positive impact on the environment. By choosing handmade items crafted by SHGs, individuals embrace a greener and more responsible approach to celebrating Christmas. MC Chandigarh believes that these initiatives will inspire individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices throughout the festive season and beyond.

She appealed everyone to witness the awe-inspiring Plaza, where the revolutionary RRR approach to Christmas celebrations is on full display. Join team MCC in embracing a greener Christmas, where sustainability and community empowerment take center stage, she added.
