*Mayor Urges Implementation of Land Pooling Policy for Chandigarh in Meeting with Administrator*
City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, met the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria today at Punjab Raj Bhawan alongwith MC councilors including Sh. Satinder Singh Sidhu, Smt. Bimla Dubey and Sh. Gurcharanjit Singh.
Sh. Jeet Singh Behlena and Sh. Bal Krishan Rana were also present.
During the meeting, the Mayor and councillors submitted a memorandum requesting the formulation and implementation of a Land Pooling Policy in Chandigarh, modeled on successful policies in Haryana, and Delhi.
The representatives highlighted the increasing urban pressure on Chandigarh and the limitations posed by the absence of a structured land acquisition mechanism. They emphasized that a Land Pooling Policy would offer a fair, transparent, and participative framework, ensuring landowners’ rights while accelerating planned urban development in areas like Sarangpur, Dhanas, Manimajra, Dadumajra, Maloya, and peripheral villages.
Key demands presented included:
• Drafting of a Chandigarh-specific Land Pooling Policy
• Public consultations with landowners, panchayats, and farmer groups
• Provision for rehabilitation, transparency, and fair plot redistribution
• A time-bound roadmap for implementation
The Mayor expressed confidence that the Administrator would give due consideration to this progressive proposal and initiate steps to ensure inclusive growth and responsible urban expansion in Chandigarh.
