City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for laying of storm water drainage pipeline along vikas marg from sector 40-D to N-Choe near Beant Singh Memorial, sector 42, Chandigarh in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Hardeep Singh Butrela, Mrs. Gurbax Rawat and Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty, respective area councilors, where the work will be executed.

While speaking on the project, the Mayor said that during monsoon season, storm water gets accumulated in huge quantities near forest area of sector 40-C and at Aayushman Bharat Dispensary in Badheri complex and sector 41-A, Chandigarh due to low lying area of these sectors. During heavy rains, the existing 72” CBD along Vikas Marg from Sector 40-D; sector 41-D to N-choe near Beant Singh Memorial, sector 42, Chandigarh gets fully pressurized due to huge storm water coming from sector 39,40,41 and sector 42.

He said that the storm water gets accumulated on road and near forest area and the existing storm water drainage system is not capable to drain out the huge quantity of rain water during high intensity rainfall in monsoon period. The area converts into pond during rains and is not serviceable. The residents and general public of this area suffer water logging issue during the rains. He said that the storm water also gets flooded in front of house gates at many places near forest area of sector 40 C and at sector 41-A, Chandigarh.

The Mayor said that after conducting detailed survey by the engineering wing necessary proposal to lay storm water drainage system line along with construction of new machine hole chambers was approved by the General House at estimated cost of Rs. 4.17 crores. He said that the work will be completed within 6 months time period. After the completion of the project, the persistent problem of water logging in these areas during the monsoon season will be solved, added the Mayor.
