The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre, Chandigarh,
celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic zeal at its
adopted villagePandwala, Mohali today under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme. The programme
began with the hoisting of the National Flagfollowed by the singing of the National Anthem.
Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Sr. Regional Director, Regional Centre Chandigarh, in his
address, paid tribute to the vision and courage of the leaders who fought for India’s
independence and urged everyone to contribute towards building a strong, educated, and
inclusive nation.The event also featured a “Har Ghar Tiranga” pledge, encouraging participants
to display the national flag with pride at their homes.The Regional Director also highlighted
IGNOU’s role in providing inclusive and flexible education to learners across the country,
reaffirming the University’s commitment to the Government’s vision of “Education for All”.
Dr. Savita Panwar, Deputy Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Chandigarhaddressed the
students and the local people of villagePandwala about IGNOU and Regional Centre
Chandigarh. The celebration was attended by the committee members (Gram sabha) of the
village, school management, teachers and students. The students were informed about our
duties and rights as a citizen. They were told about the importance of education and hard work
in getting success and being a good citizen for our country and also motivated them to follow a
disciplined routine to stay healthy and stay away from bad habits including drugs and
addictions.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and the distribution of sweets among all
attendees, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and patriotism.
