*Governor lays foundation stone of Augmented wet waste processing plant at Dadumajra*
*The capacity of the facilities is 300 TPD and will produce high grade compost*
*Chandigarh, October 2:-* Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh today laid the foundation stone of wet waste processing plant, Dadumajra in the presence of Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Sh. Dharampal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary Local Body, Sh. Vijay Namdeo Rao Jade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC, Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, area councilor and other officers, councilors and prominent persons of the local area.
While speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the Municipal Corporation has done remarkable job by setting up an augmented composting facility over 7200 sq.mtr. area to process 300 TPD of wet waste, from which compost will be made.
He said that these facilities will ensure 100% wet waste processing. However, the Municipal Corporation is in the process of setting up a State of Art integrated solid waste management plant which shall take care of the waste management needs of the city for the next 15- 20 years .
The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation is in an advanced stage of bioremediating the legacy waste dump sites, one of which has already been cleared and the other legacy site of 8 lakh metric ton is being cleared and the work will be completed by the February next year.
He further added that the augmented composing plant will be ready by December end 2023. The waste will be converted to compost with good quality with high C/N (carbon to nitrogen), odour free which will be useful for agriculture purposes.
Ms Anindita Mitra IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation said that the Corporation is already processing 100% sanitary, dry and domestic hazardous waste.
The augmented wet waste plant which is being constructed at the cost of Rs 7.25 crore and will be complete by December, will ensure processing of entire wet waste produced in the city, added the Commissioner.
In the past two years, Municipal Corporation has made huge strides in the field of waste processing whether it is legacy waste processing, solid waste management or liquid waste management. The entire quantum of legacy waste shall be cleared by February 2024, all solid waste management facilities shall stand augmented by December 2023 and all STPs shall stand upgraded by October 2023, she added.
