Despite heavy downpour, team Chandigarh Challengers- Phir Se, serves langar to thousands of people on Sewa Divas*
*MCC organises Zero Waste Mahalangar at Shivalik Garden Manimajra and highlights that Swacchta Hi Sewa Hai*

*Chandigarh, September 17:-* While setting an remarkable example of team work, the Chandigarh Challengers team served Langar to thousands of people despite heavy downpour in the morning.
To mark Sewa Divas, a Zero Waste Mahalangar was organised by Municipal Corporation Chandigarh at Shivalik Garden, Manimajra, today. Due to heavy downpour it became almost impossible to serve langar in the open, and City Mayor Anup Gupta, after taking stock of the situation, directed that the langar be shifted to the nearby Community centres and other locations.
Team Chandigarh Challengers rose to the occasion and shifted the arrangements to nearby Community centre & 10 colony areas nearby, instead of one location.
The day witnessed the incredible commitment of Municipal Corporation employees to eliminate food waste and promoting a cleaner, greener future. This inspiring event showcased the power of collective action and highlighted the importance of creating a sustainable society.
The young and dynamic squad of Chandigarh Challenger’s phir showed the power of unity and selfless service by serving langar to the community at the Zero Waste Mahalangar.
City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS led the team and served langar to citizens at the Zero Waste Mahalangar.
While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor appreciated the efforts of the team Chandigarh Challengers and said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is committed to creating a clean, green, and sustainable environment for the residents of Chandigarh. Through various initiatives and events like Indian Swachhata League Season 2, the Corporation aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and a sense of collective responsibility among citizens.
He said that the event’s commitment to waste reduction was evident through the use of durable steel utensils for serving and consuming the langar, rejecting plastic and compostable alternatives. Exquisite floral decorations adorned the venue, with the flowers later composted in a dedicated pit, embodying a closed-loop system. The Zero Waste Mahalangar exemplified the event’s emphasis on minimizing food wastage, while sustainable cloth and digital backdrops added to the immersive experience, reducing environmental impact.
The Mayor said that ISL Season 2 was a vibrant celebration of unity, cleanliness, and the transformative impact of the Swachhata hi Seva movement. Chandigarh, known for its aesthetic charm and disciplined approach, proudly invited everyone to witness this unique journey firsthand.
He said that the event showcased the commitment and dedication of team Chandigarh Challenger’s-phir se, particularly evident in the preparation of the langar for such a large number of people. The effort put into ensuring that every individual was served with care and attention further emphasized the inclusive nature of the event, leaving no one without a nourishing meal.
Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS said that the scale of the langar highlighted the importance of community engagement and the collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in our surroundings. It was a true testament to the power of unity and the spirit of giving back to society.
The Commissioner further said that the efforts put into organizing the Zero Waste Mahalangar and the various sustainable practices showcased at Indian Swachhata League Season 2 were commendable. It was inspiring to see the commitment of Chandigarh Challenger’s-phir se and the entire community in promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment for all residents, she added.
