Research on Refusing Zippers, Menstrual Hygiene Knowledge and practice comparison, Preferences of Kitsch, Minimalism and Indian Folk Art- among award winners

Encompassing a wide variety of fashion related thrust areas- from social media impact on preference of brands by youngsters to impact of fashion advertising on audience, University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University hosted a thought-provoking poster display of MSc research work today.

The students of MSc (IV) final semester presented their research dissertation work (of last two years) in the form of posters. An external jury comprising Prof. Suresh Sharma of Panjab University Statistics Department and Prof Sandeep Saijpal from Physics Department evaluated 21 research projects and announced best three research projects at an award ceremony in UIFT.

Dr. Prabhdip Brar, UIFT, Chairperson said, “Shears and Ruban- our annual
display of research work has turned out to be a success year after year. Initially incepted as annual design display only, it has now transformed into a wonderful platform to showcase the research work by MSc students. UIFT is moving strongly and swiftly towards becoming a leader in research work in the field of fashion and lifestyle.”

The MSc students have worked on a range of interesting topics from
occupational health problems of Phulkari workers in Punjab, apparel preferences of transgender community, acceptance of handloom and textile products by Chandigarh residents, women empowerment through sequin work in Shahbad, among others to reusing the zippers.

The research work has been guided by Dr Prabhdip Brar, Dr. Rita Kant, Dr. Anu H Gupta, Dr. Avnish Kumar, Dr. Neha Miglani, Ms. Megha, Mr. Nikita, Ms. Parneet- faculty members and researchers at UIFT.

The chief guests of the event were the recent Rashtrapati puraskar winners Dr. J. P. Semwal and Dr. V. P. Upadhyaya. Dr. V. K. Alankar, Chairperson Department of Sanskrit and Dayanand Chair presided over the event. Research scholars Radha and
Satyan presented their research paper and presentation on “Advaita Vedanta” philosophy. Scholars from around the city participated in the event.

आज पंजाब विश्वविद्याल के संस्कृत विभाग व दयानन्द चेयर द्वारा संस्कृत मासिक संगोष्ठी का आयोजन किया गया। इसमें मुख्यातिथि के रूप में राष्ट्रपति पुरस्कार से सम्मानित प्रो. वेदप्रकाश उपाध्याय और जे.पी. सेमवाल जी उपस्थित रहे। विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में प्रो. वन्दना कुमार अरोड़ा, विधि विभाग,पं.वि.वि. से उपस्थित रहीं। इस संगोष्ठी में विभाग के दो शोधच्छात्र (सत्यन् एवं राधा) ने अपने-अपने शोधपत्र प्रस्तुत किये। विषयाधारित संगोष्ठी में परिचर्या के बाद विभिन्न विद्वानों द्वारा अपना-अपना मन्तव्य प्रस्तुत किया गया। शोधप्रस्तुति के उपरान्त प्रो. वी.के. अलंकार, संस्कृत विभाग के अध्यक्ष ने विभाग के द्वारा उपस्थित सभी विद्वानों का स्वागत व
सम्मान किया और सारांश रूप में संगोष्ठी के महत्त्व पर चर्चा करते हुए समय समय पर विभाग द्वारा सेमिनार
आयोजित किये जाने की प्रेरणा दी।

National Seminar on Guru Nanak Dev Ji at USOL, PU

Commemorating the 550th year of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birthday, University
School of Open Learning(USOL), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized a one day National Seminar on “Guru Nanak and Our Times” here today.

Dr. Surjit Patar, an eminent Punjabi Poet and Chairman, Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh, in his address underscored the expansion and shaping of consciousness as the key task of religion which may culminate in the creative and transformatory actions of the people. Dr. Patar focussed on the various dimensions of Nanak’s thinking as Poetry, philosophy, cosmology, ecology music, humanism and other social concerns. Dr. Patar also regaled the audience with his melodious rendition of self-composed gazals.

Prof. Sudhir Kumar, Department of Evening Studies, Panjab University, located Guru Nanak Ji in the knowledge–Bhakti tradition of Kabir, Tulsi, Mira, Ravidas and talked about the seminal aspects of Nanak’s teachings that influenced the lives and thinking of the millions of people. Prof. Kumar described Nanak Ji primarily as Sadhak (practioner) and not an intellectual/ideologue.

Prof. Bhupinder Singh Brar, former Dean of University Instructions, Panjab
University, Chandigarh, shared his understanding and relevance of Guru Nanak Ji from the perspective of a social Scientist. Prof. Brar described Nanak Ji as a beautiful blend of the secular and spiritual ethos. Prof. Brar also emphasized the relevance of Nanak’s teachings in today’s times which stands marked by religious fetishization and communal disharmony.

Prof. Yojna Rawat, Chairperson, USOL, welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the audience with the themes of the Seminar. She informed that the deliberations in the seminar stressed on the teachings of Nanak Ji including inter-faith dialogue, truthfulness, purity of thought and mind, soulfulness equality, simplicity and contentment.

n the technical sessions, as many as 35 speakers shared their views on the
different dimensions of Nanak’s teachings and visions.

Earlier, the programme commenced with the singing of Shabad by Dr. Rinku Kalia, a faculty from S.D. College, Sector 32.

Prof. Gurpal Sandhu, Dean Languages and Chairman, Department of Evening Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, gave the valedictory address. Dean University Instruction Prof. Shankar Ji Jha also graced the occasion.

स्वीप के तहत कार्यक्रम आयोजित कर मतदाताओं को मतदान के लिए किया जा रहा जागरूक

सारे काम छोड़ दो-सबसे पहले वोट दो, से गूंजी गांव की गलियां

लोकसभा आम चुनाव के लिए जिला में शतप्रतिशत मतदान के लिए लोगों को अनेक गतिविधियों के माध्यम से प्रेरित किया जा रहा है। चुनाव आयोग के निर्देशानुसार अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त मनदीप कौर के मार्गदर्शन में जिला में स्वीप के तहत कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जा रहे हैं। इसी कड़ी में गांव बेगू में स्कूली बच्चों द्वारा रैली निकालकर मतदान के लिए प्रेरित किया गया। बच्चों ने रैली में सारे काम छोड़ दो-सबसे पहले वोट दो के स्लोगन-नारों के साथ लोगों को 12 मई को मतदान के लिए प्रेरित किया।

जागरुकता रैली का नेतृत्व स्वीप मास्टर ट्रेनर नरेश कुमार ग्रोवर ने किया। उल्लेखनीय है कि जिला में व्यवस्थित मतदाता एवं चुनावी भागीदारी (स्वीप) कार्यक्रम के तहत अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त मनदीप कौर के मार्गदर्शन में कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जा रहा है। स्वीप मास्टर ट्रेनर नरेश कुमार ग्रोवर ने स्कूली विद्यार्थियों को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि वे घर व गली-मोहल्लों में सभी जानकर व सगे-संबंधियों तक यह संदेश पहुंचाए कि वे 12 मई को अपने सभी काम छोड़कर वोट डालने अवश्य जाए।

विद्यालय के मुखिया अरविंद शर्मा ने कहा कि हमें अपने अधिकार के साथ-साथ अपने कर्तव्य का निर्वहन करना है और इसके साथ-साथ सभी मतदाताओं को वोट डालने के लिए प्रेरित भी करना है। उन्होंने अपील की कि लोकतंत्र की मजबूती के लिए हमारा यह कर्तव्य है कि सभी 12 मई को अपने मत का प्रयोग करते हुए मतदान प्रतिशत्ता बढ़ाने में योगदान दें। इस अवसर पर श्री नरेश कुमार ग्रोवर की अध्यक्षता में स्कूल मुखिया व समस्त स्टाफ के साथ मिलकर रैली को हरी झंडी दिखाकर गांव के लिए रवाना किया। इस रैली में बच्चों ने ‘सारे काम छोड़ दो-सबसे पहले वोट दोÓ, ‘ना नशे से ना नोट से-किस्मत बदलेगी वोट सेÓ के नारे लगाकर आमजन को प्रेरित किया।

The Literary Society of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab
University, Chandigarh, under the able guidance of Dr. Sasha and Dr. Chanchal Narang organised Intra-Department “Spelling Bee” and “Just-2-Minutes” Competition under Avant Garde on 15th April, 2019.

While the “Spelling Bee” Competition aimed to enhance the vocabulary of
students, thereby fostering comprehensive learning marked by proper pronunciation of the words, the “Just-2-minutes” Competition was an all round-fun event aimed at mastering the control of the mind over the mouth. The competition saw the earnest participation of students from all semesters. The medium of speech for the competition was English.

The “Spelling Bee” competition witnessed the participation of 20 students and was conducted in two phases viz. preliminary rounds and final rounds. On the other hand, the “Just-2-minutes” competition had 15 participants who were given approximatey an hour to prepare after the draw of lots.

Imaan Singh Khara was adjudged the winner in the “Just-2-minutes” competition, with Jaideep Singh Lalli and Surner Singh bagging the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. In the “Spelling Bee” Competition, Tejsavi was declared the winner, while Shtantika was awarded the trophy for the 2nd position and Bhumija for the third.

he competition was judged by Dr. Harneet Kaur Sandhu (Associate Professor, PGDE, GGSCW, Chandigarh). Calling it an illuminating experience, Dr Harneet Kaur congratulated the students as well as the society for making it a successful event.

The event culminated with Dr Chanchal Narang congratulating all the winners, participants as well as the volunteers for their cooperation and support. She also encouraged the students to look forward to more such opportunities in the future.It being the last event of the present semester, overall the event turned out to be a great learning experience for all the participants as well as the volunteers.

उपायुक्त डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने कहा कि सर्वांगीण व्यक्तित्व विकास के लिये बच्चों को शिक्षा के साथ साथ खेल व अन्य रचनात्मक गतिविधियों में भाग लेना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि खेल केवल शारीरिक व मानसिक स्वास्थ्य के लिये जरूरी नहीं हैं बल्कि पिछले दशकों में खेल को केरियर के रूप में अपनाने की संभावनायें भी काफी विस्तृत हुई है।

उपायुक्त आज सेक्टर-15 स्थित भवन विद्यालय में जिला स्तरीय शतरंज प्रतियोगिता के विजेता खिलाड़ियों को पुरस्कृत करने उपरांत प्रतिभागियों को संबोधित कर रहे थे। 17 वर्ष व 11 वर्ष से कम आयु वर्ग में लड़को व लड़कियों के लिये आयोजित इस प्रतियोगिता में 13 विद्यालयों के छात्र-छात्राओं ने भाग लिया।

डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने कहा कि भारत में खेल प्रतिभाओं की कमी नहीं है केवल उन्हें उपयुक्त अवसर देने व प्रोत्साहित करने की आवश्यकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि चंडीगढ़ के साथ सटा हुआ जिला होने के कारण पंचकूला में भी शिक्षा, खेल व सांस्कृतिक गतिविधियों के लिये बच्चों के पास उपयुक्त वातारण उपलब्ध है और उन्हें इसका लाभ उठाना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि शतरंज शारीरिक व्यायाम से अधिक मानसिक व्यायाम का खेल है, जिससे बच्चों की एकाग्रता, धैर्य और मानसिक दक्षता बढ़ती है। उन्होंने कहा कि अध्यापकों के साथ साथ अभिभावक भी बच्चों को खेलों के साथ जुड़ने के लिये प्रेरित और प्रोत्साहित करें।

इस मौके पर वाईस प्रिंसीपल सोनिया पब्बी सहित अन्य अध्यापक और प्रतिभागी, विद्यालय के विद्यार्थी उपस्थित थे।

उपायुक्त डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह सेक्टर-23 स्थित डम्पिंग ग्राउंड का दौरा करते हुए।

उपायुक्त डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने आज सेक्टर-23 स्थित डम्पिंग ग्राउंड का दौरा करके ठोस कचरा से संबंधित समस्या का जायजा लिया। उन्होंने इस कचरे के कारण आने वाली बदबू की समस्या के समाधान के लिये नगर निगम के अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिये।

उन्होंने कहा कि प्रतिदिन इकठ्टा होने वाले ठोस कूड़े को मिट्टी से ढककर अथवा किसी अन्य माध्यम से ऐसी व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित करें कि आस पास के क्षेत्रों में बदबू न आये। उन्होंने कूड़ा प्रबंधन के लिये नेशनल ग्रीन ड्रिब्यूनल की हिदायतों का पालन सुनिश्चित करने के भी निर्देश दिये। उन्होंने कहा कि डम्पिंग ग्राउंड के चारों ओर झाड़ीनूमा जल्दी उगने वाले पेड़ लगाये ताकि कूड़ा दूर से नजर न आये और ये पेड़ बदबूदार हवा को नियंत्रित कर सके।

इस मौके पर नगर निगम के कार्यकारी अधिकारी जरनैल सिंह ने बताया कि मिट्टी डालकर इस कूड़े से उत्पन्न होने वाली बदबू को नियंत्रित किया जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि मिट्टी डालने के कार्य को और अधिक गति दी जायेगी । उन्होंने कहा कि कूड़ा प्रबंधन के लिये जब तक ठोस कूड़ा प्रबंधन प्लांट की स्थापना का कार्य पूरा नहीं होता तब तक इस समस्या से निपटने के वैकल्पिक उपायों को जारी रखा जायेगा।

उपायुक्त डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह खनन के लिये गठित जिला स्तरीय टास्क फोर्स समिति की बैठक की अध्यक्षता करते हुए

उपायुक्त डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिये कि वे जिला में गैर कानूनी खनन को पूरी तरह रोकने के लिये सख्त कदम उठाये। उन्होंने कहा कि खनन विभाग के अधिकारियों के साथ साथ संबंधित क्षेत्र के एसडीएम व पुलिस अधिकारी भी खनन से संबंधित क्षेत्रों में अपनी सक्रियता बढ़ाये।

उपायुक्त लघु सचिवालय स्थित कांफ्रेंस हाल में खनन के लिये गठित जिला स्तरीय टास्क फोर्स समिति की बैठक की अध्यक्षता कर रहे थे। उन्होंने खनन विभाग के अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिये कि जिस भी क्षेत्र में बिना स्वीकृति के और नियमों के विरूद्ध खनन होता है तो उस पर तुरंत कार्रवाही करें। उन्होंने कहा कि संबंधित क्षेत्र के एसडीएम व पुलिस अधिकारी भी खनन विभाग के साथ टीम भावना से कार्य करें। उन्होंने जिला में गत मास के दौरान अवैध खनन के मामले में की गई कार्रवाही की समीक्षा की।

डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने आबकारी कराधान बिक्री कर के अधिकारियों को स्टोन क्रशरो में उपलब्ध स्टोक की जांच करने और कानून की अवेहलना पाये जाने पर आवश्यक कार्रवाही के निर्देश दिये। इसी प्रकार खनन विभाग के अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिये कि जिला के वन क्षेत्र में यदि खनन से संबंधित कोई मामला ध्यान में आता है तो उस पर तुरंत कार्रवाही करें। उन्होंने प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड के अधिकारियों को भी निर्देश दिये कि वे स्टोन क्रैशरो का दौरा करके इस बात की जांच करें कि क्रैशर संचालकों द्वारा प्रदूषण नियंत्रण से संबंधित कानूनों की पालना की जा रही है अथवा नहीं।

बैठक में अतिरिक्त उपायुक्त उतम सिंह, एसडीएम पंकज सेतिया, एसडीएम कालका मनीता मलिक, नगराधीश गगनदीप सिंह, पुलिस अधिकारी, खनन, आबकारी एवं प्रावधान, प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड व अन्य संबंधित विभागों के अधिकारी भी उपस्थित थे।
