BioNEST-Panjab University Start-up gets Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development Fund (SEED) FUND of 30 lakhs

With the sole intent to support young scientists/ideas/entrepreneurs, Panjab University has been promoting translation research and bio-entrepreneurship for over a decade. Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) sanctioned establishment of Bio-incubators Nurturing Entrepreneurship for Scaling Technologies (BioNEST) that is primarily hosting the entrepreneurs in the North of India and assist the struggling innovators to help them make their ideas visible to the society.

        Dr. Rohit Sharma, is the Project leader of BioNEST at Panjab University (BN- PU). The BioNEST is providing a strong incubation support to all the new enterprises in North India. It is providing innovative technology and capacity building platform/s. Demonstrating the role entrepreneurship in an academic system and provide a new direction to research is what is an integral component of BioNEST’s motto.

        One of the start-ups namely MicroFoods Pvt. Ltd started in 2016 by Prabhjot Singh Khanna a Microbiologist from PAU, Ludhiana. After doing masters research work on vinegar fermentation and having a 2 years of industrial experience in fermentation department he started a boot strapped start up with manufacturing of Apple cider vinegar.

Starting the company from a small room in 2016 today MicroFoods Pvt. Ltd had renowned market name after starting Gluten free Multigrain Flour with brand name Gluten Go.
       

Recently MicroFoods has been selected for second stage by BIRAC SEED Fund grant in association with Foundation of Innovation and and Technology Transfer (FITT, IIT Delhi with award price of Rs. 30Lac for setting of scale-up facility.

Before this MicroFoods Pvt. Ltd. has also won Rs. 30Lac grant under SAEN-BIRAC programme in association BioNEST-PU, Chandigarh for designing of reactor for vinegar fermentation. Presently Micro Foods Pvt. Ltd is incubatee in BioNEST-PU for its R&D projects and have further increased its strength for innovation of new products under the facility available.
       

Seeing the future potential of the market MicroFoods is planning to launch basket of gluten free products with high fibre content which is main requirement for present society. As presently we are selling our products in Punjab with help of this grant MicroFoods will able to increase its production capacity and take its marketing to Pan India level. “The target of the Incubation space is to help the start-up generate funding from different sources and not only start-up fund but also stage two and follow up funds so that the product/s reach the market/society, which is the prime focus of such programmes” said Dr. Rohit Sharma, Project Leader BioNEST-PU.
