City Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla reviews Chhath Puja preparations at Sector 42 Lake, assures full support to Purvanchal community
City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla visited the New Lake in Sector 42 to review the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Chhath Puja festival, one of the most significant religious events for the Purvanchal community. The Mayor was accompanied by Executive Engineers from the Public Health Wing of Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation.
During the inspection, officials briefed the Mayor about the extensive cleanliness drive in the area. This included grass cutting, cleaning and filling of the lake with clean water, repairs of seating arrangements, installation of proper lighting, provision of dustbins, and ensuring well-lit and clean parking areas for devotees.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla assured the community that all necessary arrangements are being made to facilitate the smooth and respectful observance of Chhath Puja. “The Purvanchal community forms an integral part of Chandigarh’s social fabric. We are committed to extending all required support to ensure they can celebrate their festival with full faith and dignity,” she stated.
She directed the officials to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the site during the festival, provision of mobile toilets, drinking water, and adequate security arrangements. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and safety throughout the celebration period.
The Mayor further stated that the Municipal Corporation stands united with the Purvanchal community and all communities in their cultural and religious observances, and will continue to ensure inclusive and citizen-friendly governance across Chandigarh.
