Administrator honours sanitation workers with “Swachhata Samaan”

Chandigarh, October 25:- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh honoured the Sanitation workers during “Swachhata Samaan Samaroh” at Tagore Theater, here today in presence of Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Chairman, Sanitation Committee, Sh. S.K. Jain, Additional Commissioner and other councilors and senior officers of MCC.

He was addressing the sanitation workers and door to door waste collectors at Tagore Theater during “Swachhata Samaan Samaroh” organized by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh to commemorate Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.

He said that when we discuss cleanliness the role and responsibility of Swachhata Sainiks comes very first and they get proud to the city always. He said that a growing demand of the modern parameters of Swachhata implies the need for an improved understanding of our resources, and the ability to manage that demand in an equitable and sustainable way.

He said that when we think of cleanliness, our brains have been programmed to think of large garbage dumps and heaps of scattered garbage, and not the small amount of garbage generated in our households. He said that cleanliness should start in our minds from the very beginning of waste generation at source level. He said that if we people manage garbage in segregated manner in our households, then there will be no problem of garbage dumps and heaps in any where.

He appreciated the initiative of MCC to start 100 percent segregation of household waste in 13 villages, recently transferred to the MCC and asked them to implement this in other parts of city at the earliest. He wishes all the participants Happy & prosperous Diwali and wishes of Mahrishi Valmiki Jayanti.

The Administrator, Mayor and Commissioner awarded CSI, SI, MPW and Safaikarmacharis with the “Swachhta Samaan” including Sh. Subash Singh (Work Munshi), Sh. Paramjit (Sewerman), Sh. Baljit (Sewerman), Sh. Vijay Pal (Head Sewerman), Sh. Shera Singh (Bolder), Sh. Mohinder Pathak (CSI), Sh. Parveen Kumar (MPW), Sh. Jatinder Kumar (Driver), Sh. Lal Chand (Safai Karamchari), Sh. Kala Ram (Safai Karamchari), Sh. Gopi (Safai Karamchari), Sh. Vijay (Safai Karamchari), Sh. Mangat Ram (Safai Karamchari), Sh. Parsh Ram (D.T.D. Collector), Sh. Dharamvir (D.T.D. Collector), Sh. Sunil Kumar (D.T.D. Collector), Sh. Ram Kumar (D.T.D. Collector), Sh. Rajvir (Helper of D.T. D. Collection Vehicle).

While addressing the gathering, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Mayor of Chandigarh said that the neat and clean city, we see in every morning is the best efforts our safai sainiks and door to door waste collectors. He said that the MCC achieved various awards and honours in clean city tag with the best efforts of their sanitation workers and wishes to maintain cleanliness and beauty of the city forever.

Earlier, Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries at the programme. He also briefed about the sanitation campaign, segregation at source and other awareness initiatives conducted by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Sh. Shakti Parkash Devshali, Chairman, Sanitation Committee, MCC also wished all the safaikarmacharis and door to door waste collectors happy diwali and Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.
