Owing to the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) hosted its 34th Convocation virtually on 15th April, 2021 (Thursday) at 11 AM. The University awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates to more than 235,000 successful students in the Convocation. In this Convocation discipline wise Gold Medal were also awarded. Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) presented the Annual Report of the University. In his address he emphasized that IGNOU continuously provided support services to its learners during pandemic through online mode and also started online programmes. He also stated that due to the quality students support services provided by IGNOU to its learners throughout the country IGNOU was recently awarded A++ Grade by NAAC.
Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Honourable Minister of Education, Government of India was the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address virtually on this occasion. Dr. Nishank while delivering the Convocation address appreciated the efforts made by IGNOU to enroll more than 8 lakh learners to its various programmes during the pandemic period. He emphasized that enough resources has been allocated for undertaking research activities and the academic community including the learners should aim for patenting their contribution and the youth of INDIA should be job providers rather than job seekers which means the focus should be on establishing enterprises so that more and more people should get job.
The proceedings of the Convocation were telecasted live through IGNOU’s Gyan Darshan Channel, SWAYAM Prabha Channels (#17,18,19,20) Managed by IGNOU and Facebook Page of IGNOU(https://www.facebook.com/OfficialPageIGNOU) and the same was view by IGNOU fraternity at Hqrs., Regional Centres & across the country.
IGNOU Regional Centre Chandigarh also watched the live proceedings of the 34th Convocation at Regional Centre Premises. On this occasion all the staff members were present.
